EccoA memorable meal in Midtown AtlantaWe went to ECCO for good food, pleasant surroundings, a glass of good wine after several stressful days. ECCO met our expections and then some. We had the fried goat cheese with honey and black pepper. Along with a great Riesling, not too sweet, this was the perfect choice to begin our evening. I had the Alaskan char, perfectly cooked, accompanied by a celery root puree. Dessert was chocolate truffle. The restaurant is very appealing to the eye, walls of honey colored wood. Very comfy, yet modern and simply designed. The service was relaxed and not rushed. We had many questions and our server spent time with us explaining the menu and their approach to food preparation and selection.

Prosciutto di San Daniele: (moist, melt in your mouth) and peppers stuffed with braised beef both of which were wonderful.
Pappardelle with braised pork was the best thing we had, the pasta is homemade - tender and light, and the sauce was amazing.
Roasted quail was perfectly cooked.
Even the roasted asparagus with homemade aioli was memorable.
We also shared some of their homemade ice cream and the lemon fool with berries which had a nice assertive fresh lemon taste.

The fried goat cheese with honey and black pepper was an unusual and excellent start with a generous portion. Tuna crudo was also excellent even though the portion was smaller. Treiso pizza was a good surprise. We also ordered a chard with pickled stems side and enjoyed it. Dessert was an excellent clafoutis, not a dish often seen. We enjoyed sampling the excellent wine list, and the variety of serving sizes, but found the prices slightly high for the wines available, even in Atlanta. We started with the fried goat cheese balls (A MUST) before moving on to a "Chef's Choice" meat & cheese plate. (For the record, the chef makes excellent choices.) We eat at the bar often, and dine at tables for groups dinners. The patio is a delightful treat and change of pace for regulars or newcomers alike. The service as always impeccable, and a group of five, everyone loved all the tapas, all good sizes to share. The grilled romaine with trout was a surprising hit, and the mussels - yum, yum, succulent & juicy, they must be in season. And what better for a mid-week, group share than chocolate truffle balls to cap it all off.

My booking was confirmed with a friendly phone call on the day of our anniversary and we were welcomed with smiling faces at the entrance when we arrive. I mentioned briefly to the waitress that it was our anniversary and didn’t really expect anything of it, but she offered to take a photo for us (without asking) and even brought us a complementary desert to celebrate our special day. The food was delectable, the atmosphere classy yet laid back and they had a great selection of wines, whiskeys and spring cocktails. Our waiter Jim made great selections all night having us often times ask him what his favorite item was. The drinks were very well done and balanced in flavor. The food was delicious. My fiance is gluten free so it really is a treat when more than half of the menu is gluten free so it makes it a lot easier to choose items to share. Ecco really is one of the best romantic dinner venues in Atlanta. The food was fantastic. We were guided through the wine list and helped with a wine choice based on our tastes. The wine suggestion was absolutely perfect. The service was outstanding. We also ordered the roasted potatoes as a side, which I liked, but I was not a fan of the 'rooftop salsa verde.' My fiance liked it, however. I also love the cocktail, 'Long Live the Queen' & I don't normally gravitate towards gin. This drink was a strong reason for my insistence for another visit! The food is uniformly delicious - the fried goat cheese balls in honey are a must have. The stuffed peppers are also very good as are the cheese and meat options and mixed olives. For the entree the butcher steak and vegetarian pastas are both very good and change regularly. To finish off your meal, I recommend their unique Olive Oil Ice Cream with sea salt and chocolate chips - this is delicious, creamy, and just different.
