Diner Reviews
  • "Was very leisurely to say the least. But in all fairness to our waitress, I think it was a kitchen problem. The food was very good, but when the service is less than expected, it ruins the evening!"

  • "our group of four was seated in what used to be an elevator car. Our table location only enhanced the wonderful service we had and the delicious food we ordered. This has to be our favorite restaurant!"

  • "like the sun rising in the east, my dog's good morning "kisses" and great food and service at EBT. It's always a great experience, whether for a nice dinner out or a business lunch (as this last visit was)."

  • "Dining at EBT recently was a memorable experience for all the right reasons. Great atmosphere, fantastic food, terrific service and best of all, it delivered a WOW dining experience for our entire party."

  • "Service was attentive but not intrusive. Food was perfect. Drinks were well poured. Shared dessert was a perfect ending."

  • "It is located in a beautiful facility and everything was fine, but… Our tableside Caesar salad was one of the worst I've ever had, borderline inedible. Note to server, Cesar does not require an entire bottle of Worcestershire. When you put the salad on the plate, if the lettuce is dark brown, try again. Entrees were very good. Indifferent staff, left empty tables unbussed way too long and actually used a table in the center of the room to pile up their dirty linen! Sorry guys, but in the service industry, a quality staff is crucial."

  • "Danise . . . Paul . . . .BJ at bar . . . .ALL great personalities.....friendly & helpful! GREAT STAFF!"

  • "EBT is a re-creation of the old Emery Bird Thayer building in Kansas City. It's well-done and a great concept. The staff at EBT are top notch and have just the right touch of service, humor, and professionalism to make the evening flow. The food is perfect, with plenty of choice, and nightly specials designed by the chef. Our party of four were pleased with every aspect of our evening."

  • "EBT remains a consistently excellent dining experience. We were greeted and seated by the General Manager and immediately recognized by a waiter who hadn't seen us for months. The menu offered many choices both as to cuisine and price levels . The food was outstanding as usual."

  • "Food was very good. Service was prompt. This is a good special occasion restaurant."

  • "Yes, the restaurant has been around for many years and as lifelong KC residents, we were surpised that we had actually not stepped foot inside for maybe 15-20 years. So we were curious to find out. My guess is we just hit a bad night. Some positives, the live music was very nice. But the negatives outweigh the positives, starting with our waiter who clearly had just finished smoking a cigarette when he approached our table. The smell was unmistakeable. Then the food, we ordered scallops and Chilean Seabass. The Seabass was VERY expensive and on top of the risotto rice/spinich, was very rich and seemed a little undercooked. The scallops were dripping in butter or something, anyway, they too were undercooked and so we sent them back."

  • "EBT has been a special place for to us for a long time. I have never had a bad experience there. The food is beyond compare and the service is some of the best the city has to offer."
    Dined on 3/11/2014
  • "Nice atmosphere. Not real impressed with the apple slaw (made with lettuce and teeny slices of apple). Potatoes were OK but served warm. Pork chops very tasty. The bread triangles with garlic were fantastic. Our waiter was quite good."

  • "2 of our party had pork chops and they were great and very generous, I had the special of wild boar which was also great, we love the garlic toast, and I had the soup of the day tomato with pesto which was excellent, the others had the house salad which was also very good, lastly i had the chocolate torte which was wonderful and one of us had the fresh berries which also was very good"

  • "this used to be ne of my favorites in KC but over the past year or so it has gone done hill. Food is not equal to the price. Wine selection has also taken a dive. This place needs a kick in the pants."

  • "Not prepared for the volume of customers on Valentine's Day. Dined here multiple times and this was our first bad experience."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "The pricing was escalated to almost double the entree price. The food was acceptable but food to price was heavily disproportionate."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "Had reservations two weeks in advanced, seated in the bar area not a fan, to have Valentine's dinner in a bar paying these prices."
    Dined on 2/14/2014
  • "There was 5 of us in the group and each one had something different and each one described their meal as very good."

  • "The entire meal from appetizer to dessert was outstanding. This was a great choice to celebrate Valentines day!"

  • "This was not only our Valentines dinner but our 15th wedding anniversary as well. I can't complain about anything. The food and drinks were wonderful. It was very romantic and our waitress did a fantastic job. We were attended to like we were special. It was a perfect evening. There was some live music in the bar area but it wasn't too loud or distracting, I would definitely recommend EBT! They gave us a $20 off coupon too and we will definitely be back to use it!"

  • "I can't believe how awesome it was for my wife and I to enjoy our selves while we were there. The food was excellent, the ambiance, and really just everything about it!"
    Dined on 2/12/2014
  • "Our food was elegant, both steak and scallops were tasty and cooked perfectly. I feel like we were waited on immediately and often. We had a nice table early at 1730 by the fireplace. It was louder later after the live music began, but that is to be expected for the entertainment, which was good."
    Dined on 2/13/2014
  • "This was our first trip to EBT. At first we thought it was such an odd location, off the beaten path. But much to our delight, there was a vibrant crowd of foodies, a live piano player and wonderful cuisine. We booked a second reservation that very night."

  • "Our server was not that attentive and took a good ten minutes to even greet us. I had the pork chop and it was disappointing. The sauce was great but the chop was fatty and not much meat. My husband had the filet, it was fantastic. The side dishes were great. Ambiance was incredible. All in all not worth the money though."

  • "We love EBT -- frequently eat there for special occasions."

  • "I have lived in KC all my life and have always wanted to go here. It is a nice atmopshere. Food was just ok. Had a live band playing on the Friday night we went. That was pretty cool."

  • "Went for the first time during KCRW on 1/24 for lunch. Lamb Chops were fantastic and two was more than enough. One of the best meals I ate all week. Service was a bit rushed since it was the noon hour and waitress never even asked if I wanted something to drink.. Cesar salad was just OK , nothing special, would suggest the Lettuce wedge instead. Great deal getting the Lamb Chops for lunch and they were cooked perfectly. Would highly recommend them as well as this restaurant.. Would have given it an overall 4th star if service was not rushed and Cesar Salad was better."

  • "EBT had good food, but not as good as I read in other reviews. I would give this another shot to redeem itself in the food category. The service was very good. Always there when you needed them, but not too frequently. I would go back. The decor leaned toward contemporary and rustic, but the chairs and some fake plants screamed cafeteria. Could be a trendy place ."

  • "I like EBT and we visited your restaurant before, I would say more than a dozen times. This time ,most likley because of the special food week in KC, the resaturant was crowded and the service not so good .But we will come back and try to avoid those special days."

  • "The menu and prices suggest an upscale, "foody" experience. While the food was certainly good (all four in our party cleaned their plates, or took all leftovers home!), I'm not certain I would rank it as highly as some of our other favorites (like Rye, Bristol, 801 Chophouse). The flatbread pizza ordered as an appetizer was very good. The daily soup was fresh and very tasty. My wife had the pork osso buco, and the pork was absolutely falling off the bone, VERY flavorful and met-in-your-mouth tender. For dessert, we shared the tableside bananas foster; by far the best we've ever had. The show is good, but the flavor was out of this world ! Our server was attentive, with an expansive knowledge of the menu, and a grand sense of humor."

  • "We usually love EBT; however, it appears to have been a casualty of restaurant week. The "special" menu items seem to have been mass produced in advance. The wedge salad had wilted lettuce and the chicken artichoke looked like it had been reheated several times. The waiter's primary intention seemed to be to sell as much alcohol as possible and rush us through the meal."

  • "If you want to impress your date this place should be in your top three choices. I was struck by how intimate and beautiful the restaurant is. We received a brief history of the restaurant from our servers who were very knowledgeable about both the building and the menu. They server a very thinly sliced, very crispy, garlic bread which was amazing. Easily the best wedge salad and filet I have had in a very long time. Everything served at the table was excellent and beautifully plated. A plus for me is they have decaf hot tea! EBT truly is an unsung gem in the Kansas City dining scene. Every time we would see an ad for them we would say we should go there. I'm sorry we waited so long. We've been missing out."

  • "crowded on the last day of restaurant week, but the service was timely (too quick at one point when i was still finishing my huge & tasty salad & entrees were put on the table). we had the trout -- again huge & delicious and nicely presented with a warmish slaw on top. our table in a corner was quiet but not marooned, and i remembered why i used to come here often. we would all highly recommend EBT."

  • "We tried out EBT for restaurant week - I'm not sure whey I had never tried it before, probably location. When you step inside you are greeted with jazz, brick arches, two old elevators that are used for dining, and some interesting light fixtures. The food was quite good and the service was as good as you would expect, no more no less. Clam chowder was excellent both lamb and fish dishes were good; though the lamb was more impressive than the barramundi in both in taste and portion size. For $33 I expect more fish or vegetables rather than so much carb/filler. The lamb and asparagus was excellent. There were several other items on the menu I would consider going back to sample such as the duck."

  • "Great food in a quiet and beautiful place. Don't know why this restaurant continues to be uncrowded."
