Diner Reviews
  • "The Ebbitt room- never a bad experience- food fit for a foodie, cocktails made like days gone by. "

  • "I arrived knowing the reviews of others but went in open minded. Yes, the popovers are overdone. The are not supposed to be so hard they break apart like glass. The beet salad with goat cheese was tasty. My SO had the surf and turf. The steak was no better than what you'd find in a subpar steakhouse and the crab cake was just edible. We had the steamed toffee pudding which tasted burnt. I kept thinking it was the caramelization, but no, it too had spent too much time in the oven. The ambiance is very nice and does have potential. I don't know what could be done to solve the problem of the bar being it the front of the room when you have cackling drinkers without volume control. We were annoyed and we were at the opposite side of the room."

  • "Looked online hoping to find a good restaurant for our romantic weekend and found the Ebbitt Room. SO happy I chose this restaurant. Every plate was better than the plate before. The food had so much flavor. Everything was perfect including the service. I am definitely going back again! I would go as far as saying it was the best meal out I ever had - and I have eaten out A LOT!"

  • "The Ebbitt Room experience was a great dining event for us. We each chose the crab cakes due to it being a Lenten Friday. I must say, they were outstanding. By far the best we each had ever eaten. The atmosphere was very welcoming, calm and somewhat romantic. The wait staff was very friendly and accommodating. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves."

  • "My wife and I went to the Ebbitt Room for our 4 year wedding anniversary on a sort-of whim. What a great decision that was! For an appetizer we had their Pale Calamari which was maybe one of the best calamari dishes I've ever had. I had the Frites Steak & Crab Cake with Truffle Fries which was excellent. My wife had Salmon with Farm Vegetables which she loved. I had a cup of coffee which was pretty tasty. The ambiance, for us, was perfect as it made it seem like everyone around us was having a great time. And that makes your experience that much better."

  • "On our tour of cape May restaurants, the experience at the Ebbitt Room was fair. Beautiful dining room but very noisy and loud piano music as well. The popovers were very tasty, food was fair. Nice presentation, small portions, decent selection but not great. Extensive wine list and $$$. Thus far the Pier House, Peter Shields, Freda's and the great little Chinese place by the Acme have been the best. Nice experience but not a great value."

  • "My husband and I really enjoy the Ebbitt Room. We dine there throughout the year and always have a good time. Saturday night was no exception! However, our one issue was with two new items on the menu. While the eggs were delicious (I could eat an entire plateful if left to my own devices), the short ribs were dry and the gnocchi were more akin to rocks than pillows. We nevertheless remain hopeful for the rest of the season."

  • "My fiancée had the NY strip steak, perfectly cooked. The sides were also delicious, mashed potatoes, sautéed onions, and the truffled Mac and cheese all lived up to the standards. Ambiance was exceptional, we waited for our table by a warm fire where we can order our drinks. The meal was expensive but it was in line with what is to be expected from a restaurant of this quality. The steak the sides and the drinks were under $150, not including the tip. Also, This was our second time at the Ebbitt room and the menu changed drastically so the chef keeps things fun and different and very delicious."

  • "The food is consistently excellent and the service very good. The bar is located in the dining room and was very noisy the night we were there, which diminished our overall satisfaction somewhat."

  • "Nice restaurant, interesting menu, and a beautiful porch - can't wait to go back!"

  • "Some of the best appetizers I've had. You must try the deviled egg trio- they change the toppings from time to time, both times they've been amazing. Truffle fries were a little overcooked for my liking, but everything else was lick your plate good!"

  • "My wife and I were having a getaway weekend in Cape May and went to the Ebbit Room for a late Friday night dinner. The bartender, Helen, was very friendly and gave some great dinner suggestions. Food was excellent; I had the calamare appetizer and it was excellent. We had trouble choosing an entree since there were so many great choices. Dinner was great and so was the service. Sweet Ricotta Donuts as desert was amazing. Definitely a restaurant you should try in Cape May"

  • "Food was inventive and delicious. It's a small, intimate dining room but doesn't feel crowded or cramped. Live piano music, fun bar scene, farm to table philosophy. Overall a wonderful experience."

  • "My wife and I dine in Cape May alot and were recommended to retry the Ebbitt Room due to the addition of the new Chef. The experience was very disappointing as our popovers came out burned as well as our Foie Gras appetizer. The entrees were lack luster at best and the desserts were absolutely unedible. The dining room was very dark,we couldn't see the menus, thank God for the candle in the middle of the table. The room was very hot and extremely loud. I would not recommend this room for any occassion or experience. There are certainly better restaurants at far less price ranges to get a more memorable experience."

  • "April is a fabulous waitress made great dinner and drink reccomendations. This is our third time dining at The Ebbit room the food is always excellent, however we were a little dissapointed they changed the steak for 2 to a NY Strip from a Rib eye."

  • "Don't miss this restaurant. This was my first time. I am not sure why I never heard of the Ebbitt Room before now but from now on I will not go to the Jersey shore without stopping there for dinner. I enjoyed every course. Tasting their food was like going on an adventure. I had the beet salad, deviled eggs, duck and donuts...I was stuffed and had to take half my dessert home. Oh, and the popovers were great."

  • "We had a wonderful meal and the service was excellent. We would definitely come back, but would never again bring a bottle of wine. While looking online, we saw that they charged $20 for a corkage fee. Because we saw this, we thought that we would bring our own bottle of wine, and it would still save us some money over buying a bottle at the restaurant. Had we not seen the fee advertised, we probably wouldn't have even thought to bring our own bottle. At the end of the meal we got the check and saw that the corkage fee was actually $35 (after being described as a "small" fee by our server at the beginning of the meal). I know the restaurant would rather have you buy a bottle at the restaurant; they should just not advertise any fee."

  • "I had heard good things about the Ebbit Room, unfortunately, I do not agree. My steak was so tough, the crab cake was average( I can get a better crab cake at my local grocery store), and the salad dressing was overly loaded with black pepper, I couldn't eat it. The meal was not enjoyable. Our waitress was nice."

  • "Ebbitt Room is a favorite place for me and my wife. It was renovated since we last went so now it is 1 large room including the bar and piano and dinning room. The only complaint I have is it is very loud, not from the bar or the piano, but from the dinners having conversation. They need drapes or something soft on the walls or ceiling. Other than that, our food was fantastic. We had their deviled eggs for appetizer which is a signature dish of theirs. Eggs have different toppings and very creative. For dinner we had NY Strip for 2 which was perfect, including a choice of 3 sides. All was wonderful and flavors were complex and went great together. I would certainly recommend but don't expect a nice quiet meal."

  • "The Restaurant was noisy due to bar area in the restaurant The food was tasteless The service was exceptionally poor, the waitress did not explain the specials and disappeared for extended periods requiring me to ask other servers for help. I will no be back"

  • "Went for my husband's birthday and took another couple who had never been there before. Every one was impressed. The grapefruit and coffee martinis were delicious and the popovers! All our appetizers and dinners were excellent with the exception of a little disappointment in the crab cake that was part of the steak and crab dinner. It was a too salty and "mushy" for our groups taste but everything else was so great that we couldn't give less than an outstanding rating."

  • "Ambience, great food and great service. Stayed at the Virginia hotel on their date night package which included a voucher toward dinner in the Ebbitt Room. Very nice experience. Would definitely recommend."

  • "Went with friends to celebrate a birthday. Although the service was excellent and the food was tasty, the noise level of the dining room which adjoins the bar was extremely loud. It was difficult to even hear each other at the table. We feel that the Ebbitt Room has to decide what kind of establishment it represents: fine dining elegance or boistrous night club."

  • "I love this restaurant. We come to Cape May regularly throughout the year (all year long), and we almost exclusively eat hear. Paul at the piano is fabulous! We love him. The food is the best in Cape May as well as the cocktails. Have been coming to Cape May for over 20 years. This place is the best."

  • "Brought the wife there for her Birthday. It was a cold snowy day and finding parking was difficult. They did offer valet, but only noticed it after I’d parked. Fun menu good food. Wife enjoyed it very much."

  • "I requested a romantic table and we got seated where we always get seated--along the wall with one bench seat and one chair across from it. How do all the other people there get the nice tables? There was a loud woman on one side of us talking to her seat mate. It really ruins the whole romantic setting. I ordered a bottle of wine and they were out of it. What the waitress suggested was not a wine either of us truly liked. The menu was nice, but nothing exquisite jumped out at either of us. We ordered the steak for $70 for two and it was cooked perfectly, but kind of tasteless. Just not our greatest dining experience. Our bill was over $150, including tip--but it wasn't special. Just okay..."

  • "My girlfriend and I loved loved loved our dinner at the Ebbitt Room the other night. The food truly is a work of art. The service was wonderful. We arrived early so that the dining room wasn't too noisy. A warm fire was burning in the front room of the hotel and it was a great place to relax before and after dinner. This was not my first visit and certainly will not be my last."

  • "my only complaint is that on the web they advertised piano jazz, but when we got there ,"no not till maybe Feb." Disapointed on the bait and switch tactic to fill a dining room."

  • "It was an extremely noisy restaurant and on the expensive side - the wine list was ridiculously expensive. Considering other restaurants in the area (Cape May and Atlantic County) where the food and ambience are as good or better, it wasn't worth the 45 minute drive from our home in Egg Harbor Township."

  • "Very pleased, this restaurant was the perfect place to spend our night out. We started with the cheese plate, delicious and plated nicely. Next we tried the deviled eggs prepared 3 ways. You must get this, strange that a common bbq staple could be so decadent, but these were. We shared the duck and the pasta dish. The duck was hands down one of the best dishes we have ever had. The pasta was good, but since there were so may other stars on the table it is hard to get as excited. The dinner rolls , were amazing. Will be back."

  • "A terribly uneven experience. From the moment we arrived, the staff was hanging out of the kitchen door socializing with each other. Servers were discussing business right on top of us. No one was in charge. When the busboy took our plates I thought I was in a diner. Plates were clanking and forks flying as he loaded our dishes on to those from another table. When they renovated, they opened the bar into the dining room. How strange it was to sit there in semi-formal dress for the occasion and have to look at people hanging out in sweatshirts and baseball hats at the bar. At the end of the evening, I asked who the manager was - she was pointed out standing in the hallway. At no point did Tara come into the dining room."
