Diner Reviews
  • "The staff is welcoming and attentive and the food is very good. The fried oysters were exceptional as was the daily special soup, black eyed pea. Eatonville's wine list has good wines at a good price. This is a great neighborhood place for southern/creole food and the excellent service is an added draw."

  • "This resaturant has a great theme but the service needs attention. Our party of 12 sat the majority of the night awaiting food that was standard. In thinking of the cusine that Eatonsville was trying to achieve I was left hungry and unfulfilled. There were dishes that didn't meet the standard. Even though our server was nice she was rarely around to assist with drink refills, utensils needed, or new orders. The check took exactly 45 minutes to reach our table after the request. The posh lava cake dessert was dry and sat in the kitchen window for atleast 20 minutes before we received it. In the end I wouldn't recommend this restaurant at peak hours or with big parties. I would only attend during lunch with one or two people."

  • "Food and service were both great. I'll definitely be returning. My only complaint was that the table where our party of four was seated was rather small for four adult diners. More appropriate as a 2 or 3 top."

  • "My experience was absolutely fantastic! The service was great and the food tasted so delicious! Will be visiting Eatonville again very soon!"

  • "Our large group arrived about 10 minutes early for a 2 PM reservation. We had the required number present to be seated, but still waited over 30 minutes for a table. No apologies were offered. The wait staff seemed overwhelmed. The food was just okay. The poor service made this restaurant one that we will not recommend or try again."

  • "Eatonville was wonderful but the service was very slow. Besides that, the food, the ambience, and the drinks were delicious!"

  • "It was a cold, rainy Sunday and Eatonville made me forget the miserable weather outside. The restaurant was packed, but our server still managed to check on us regularly and was very pleasant. The food was amazing and they made me the best bellini I've ever had. Gotta go back again soon!"

  • "Good food, awesome decor. I had the fried green tomato BLT and that was tasty. I recommend this restaurant. I went on a rainy day so it wasn't too busy at noon on a Saturday but by 1 it was packed, so might recommend a reservation."

  • "We celebrated a family birthday with a party of 6 this past Saturday evening. We had a reservation but a couple hrs before our reservation I called to add on to the reservation and they were very accomodating. Everyone loved the food and the service was very good. Between the six of us we tried the shrimp and grits, fried chicken, ribs, jambalaya, and pulled pork. Everything, including the appetizers of fried green tomatoes, hush puppy (different but boys devoured it), and gumbo was delicious. My 16 year old even remarked the next day how much he liked the restaurant. I definitely recommend this restaurant and can't wait to go back."

  • "I took a group of 14 out of town colleagues to Eatonville for the first time tonight. It was wonderful! Everyone found something to like on the menu and at the end of the night there was hardly a bite of food left on anyone's plate. We very much appreciated our server - Timothy - sorting out a check for 14 people who all need to submit expense reports! I would definitely return to Eatonville with a large group or for dinner at the bar with my husband. Delicious!"

  • "watchfulness on the part of the management staff was very good and successfully turned potential challenges into winning situations. my compliments to them. we all make mistakes; how we handle them makes all the difference. thanks so much."

  • "Came for my 25th birthday. They had promised us a booth, but sat us instead at a huge bar-height table, so we had to ask to be reseated -- inconvenient, though it was nice that they did that. Food was mostly very good, mac and cheese especially so, and we all cleaned our plates. Only a few complaints: the Brussels sprouts were subpar, the biscuit that comes with the fried chicken is (surprisingly) more like a dinner roll, and the juleps were barely alcoholic. They do split checks, but they take about 20 minutes to do so."

  • "I came to Eatonville late on a Saturday with two friends to celebrate my birthday. I couldn't have asked for a better dining experience for my 30th! It was my first time at the restaurant, and the ambience and food were truly divine! I adored the extensive wall murals and high ceilings. I thought the food was outstanding!--particularly the giant hushpuppy (wow!). Our server was wonderful. The timing on the food wasn't great. The appetizers came out quickly, but the salad and entrees took a lot longer, too long it seemed. However, the place was hoppin' that night. All-in-all, it was a wonderful meal and I would come back in a battered and deep fried DC minute!"

  • "The menu is great for all diners. I am a vegan, and also have a severe dairy allergy, and there were plenty of options for me. I dined with a carnivore, and he was very pleased with his meal as well."

  • "LOVED this place! We (me, my husband and 3 year old) took my MIL out for her birthday. First I would HIGHLY recommend making reservations instead of showing up (made the reservation through Open Table and am HIGHLY impressed with how smooth and easy it was). If you don't, you may be waiting for well over an hour! I ordered the fried chicken frittata, my MIL ordered the catfish and grits. Both meals were AMAZING! Hubs ordered the steak and eggs and was not happy with the flavor of the steak. The service was wonderful and prompt. The atmosphere was energetic albeit a little loud for me and there was not a kids menu (we ordered a side for my son). Those are probably the worst things I can say about the restaurant. Prices were fair."

  • "Made a reservation at Eatonville to celebrate my boyfriend's birthday. While the food was mostly good, the service totally put a damper on what was supposed to be a celebratory evening. It took close to 15 minutes just for our drinks to come. We then waited for about 45 minutes for our appetizers, while our waitress was nowhere to be found so that we could inquire about them. Turns out they were forgotten, because soon our entrees appeared. When we finally tracked down the waitress to get the apps, which we still wanted to try, she just stared at us blankly for a second and mumbled something about going to check on them. We still didn't get them until we had finished our entrees. Will not be returning for a special occasion again."

  • "The atmosphere is always energetic and our waitress was great (I believe her name was Rachel or Rebecca). However, the food was average and tasteless. If they could get the food to match the energy of the place then it would be one of the best restaurants in DC."

  • "This place is so amazing that I came here two weekends in a row. The second weekend I had family in town, and everyone just raved about this place after we left. Great find!"

  • "One of the finest meals I have eaten in DC. Fried chicken was finger lickin' good. Corn muffins had outstanding flavor and a delightful density, especially with corn kernels inside. Fried green tomatoes were tasty, but 3 small slices was too small a portion. The hushpuppy was interesting, but the shrimp inside were rather pedestrian. But the entrees were the stars, the aforementioned fried chicken and the grilled pork chop. The sides were also excellent. Bread pudding for dessert was delicious, but would be nice to be forewarned it comes garnished with strawberries, which I don't eat and would have asked to put them on the side. But overall, an outstanding meal. We don't normally eat in that part of DC, but we'll find excuses to return."

  • "The restaurant staff was very warm and accommodating to my large party. It took a little maneuvering to get us all in but the host and manager served us well. They even split the check with no fuss. I was quite pleased. I will definitely be a returning patron. And of course, the food was wonderful."

  • "I love Eatonville and always suggest it to everyone that comes into town. I held my birthday brunch there and Eatonville was more than accommodating. Many restaurants require you to get a special menu or sometimes even reserve a room for large parties. But Eatonville held my party of 14-15 at a table with no problem!!! The food has a southern flair to it. I am from Atlanta, Georgia and even I must say that this food definitely hits the spot during Brunch! Couple that with $5 mimosas and walls filled with artwork and you have a great environment. Definitely get a reservation because the place is always packed. And know that if 75% of your party isn't there then you will have to wait to be seated. Other than that I highly recommend!!"

  • "The food was absolutely amazing. We had brunch, the accomadation was a little dicy because we did not have reservation but when we finnally sat down the waiter was great, the food was just enough and the atmosphere was delightful. I just we had more time because we were heading back to New York. I want to experience dinner the next time i'm there to visit my son."

  • "Eatonville has been better to me. This time they treated me kinda badly. My red velvet pancakes weren't very red and didn't look too appetizing. However, they didn't taste too bad and the citrus maple syrup was a sweet surprise - it was delicious. The hot biscuits with honey = divine. The fried green tomatoes are SO good, I'd eat them as an entree alone. Three on a plate, just isn't enough! My biggest gripe was the situation with my reservation. I made my reservation for 12:30 on a Sunday, figuring that the place would be pretty busy and it sure was, but I wasn't seated until 1 pm. The restaurant had not prepared for my group (there were only 3 of us). That was disturbing. I'll go back to Eatonville, but definitely not for lunch."

  • "Everything was great except the service. We were a large party which I understand can be confusing, especially as two guests showed up later than expected. However, the waitress simply gave up on us. Several people had to wait more than 20 minutes to order drinks, and I myself had my finished food sitting in front of me for half an hour."
