Diner Reviews
  • "Eatery is for those who want very good food in an energetic atmosphere. Wait staff is very friendly, food is very good, your close dining neighbors often don't mind engaging in conversation. It's our go-to place for a good casual meal when we visit NYC once a year."

  • "We come now for about 13 years once or more per year to the Eatery. We have never be disappointed. Food and wines were always good. We like the Eatery's concept. Some menues have adapted or changed but are following the concept. We can recommend this place anytime. Eatery team: go on like this. A reataurant that is still full, vibrant and in demand after so many years does something well ;-). Again thanks for a great evening. Thomas and Jon"

  • "Eatery is such a great place. I love the food and the atmosphere. The menu is so off-beat with a many great selections--I had a hard time making a choice! The waiter and bartender were both very friendly and helpful. We had a blast."

  • "We discovered the Eatery several years ago on the recommendation of the Hilton Midtown concierge. We have made it a regular stop for every visit to the City since! The servers are very attentive. The menu selection is interesting -- a nice variety for all tastes. Portions are quite large -- good value."

  • "Nice little mid-town restaurant with a menu on the very healthy side. Although I had the market pasta which included a pesto sauce loaded with butter! Tasty it was - but wish the restaurant included a calorie count so diners knew what they were getting."

  • "We travel to Manhattan a few times a year. When we are seeing a show, we always stop in at The Eatery. The service is great. The atmsophere is casual/cool. Music is just loud enough to add to your experience and soft enough not to interfere. Everyone in our group ordered something different. We were all happy."

  • "We went to this place on a recommendation and had a great time. The food was lovely and there were plenty of options to choose from. We loved the crackers at the beginning. They were an exciting twist on usual prawn crackers. The background music added to an already chilled atmosphere."

  • "We had a lovely evening at Eatery last week. Close to the theatre district, it's a great find for pre-show dinner. Cocktails were fantastic and arrived quickly which is not always the case in this city. My husband's meatloaf was great, but my fish tacos were a little bland. Service was attentive and brisk without us feeling rushed. I did order a cappuccino and the server returned with a coffee, but I just let it go. The menu is varied for many different palates as well. We'll be back!"

  • "It got a bit troublesome at the end as we didn't get our food very quickly and we couldn't finish our plates because we were in a rush to get to our show."

  • "We were looking far a theater district trendy place to have brunch and this clearly fits the bill. The food was served hot and fresh and the menu selections were quite creative. We look forward to coming back again real soon. Good value and people watching as well."

  • "My first suggestion is to make a reservation. I have gone there twice, and both times there were long waits (sometimes outside in the cold!) for people who did not reserve. Second suggestions - bring your vegan friend here!! Brunch/breakfast may be the toughest meal for a vegan, since almost everything traditional has eggs, milk and/or cheese. Eatery has a wonderful tofu stir-fry with black rice and some sort of summer squash (sweet potato? pumpkin? I can't recall). It is delicious and filling and totally worth the trip. Yes, there is only one option, but it is a good one. There is also a veggie burger, but I don't know if it's vegan."

  • "Made reservations here before going to see a show. Excellent location in the Theater District. Very reasonable prices, great menu selection and fantastic service. Would definitely dine here again."

  • "We were in the city for the weekend and found the eatery on tripadvisor. Hubby had the meatloaf and i had the ravioli. Both very good. Service was good, waiter disappearred a bit when we were trying to pay our bill but not a huge deal. Would come back."

  • "The food was fantastic. I just hoped that the waiter wasn't too busy with other tables. We had to look for him several times just to get an extra fork that fell on the floor. Overall, we had fun!"

  • "Love Eatery! Great food and cocktails. The host did a great job finding us a table even though we were late for our reservation."

  • "I did not get to the restaurant on time but the rest of my party did. They seated them & then the maitre'd came by & rudely asked is your entire party here, when they said no they are almost here they rudely asked them to get up out of the table & wait until the entire party joined. If this was said nicely my party would have stayed to eat but unfortunately due to the rudeness of the staff we left & did not eat there. We do not work at this restaurant & do not know their rules, if someone seats our party without everyone there they should be upset with the staff & not the customers. I will never eat there again...."

  • "I went with my wife and a group of friends for dinner on a Saturday night. The restaurant was crowded and noisy, but conversation around the table was easy. All of the food and drinks were excellent: skillfully prepared and presented. Prices were reasonable given the quality of the food and location. They use OpenTable for reservations, so it is easy to check for availability."

  • "A friend recommended Eatery to us, so we tried it after a matinee musical -- a quick 8-block walk from the theater. Luckily we had reservations, because the empty restaurant filled up within 10 minutes of our getting there. Service was excellent --- efficient without being cloying. My short ribs were melt-in-the-mouth good. Real comfort food! My husband said his steak was perfect. Vegetable soup and tomato soup tasted homemade. The noise level was a bit insane, and by the time the restaurant was full, we could no longer hold a conversation at all, it was so loud. However, the bill was $100 for the two of us, and that included a $38 bottle of wine. So, for $62, we had a good dinner in NYC. Not bad. We'll go there again, for sure."

  • "After making our way from seeing the Lion King, we expected a great meal based on reviews. Simply disappointing. We were a party of six...they initially sat us on top of the only other party seated in the restaurant. We asked to move and they then placed us in the v back next to the rest rooms. Braised short ribs were served on egg noodles out of the grocery isle and my hangar steak tasted like it was purchased on managers clearance. Not worth spending your time or money!"

  • "I took my mom to Eatery before hitting a Broadway show. We arrived about 15 minutes before our reservation time and they sat us right away. We mentioned that we had a show to get to and they were quick to take orders and bring food to the table without affecting the level of service. Food is fantastic, service is great. I highly recommend this place."

  • "Had the pasta special that was being offered. It was delicious...I just wanted a larger portion :) The brownie ice cream sandwich was amazing and was enough for two people to share!"

  • "My boyfriend and I ate here after the huge snow storm last week. The restaurant was very quiet and the service was great. The server was very attentive as well. I ordered the Sante Fe hashbrowns which were amazing and my boyfriend ordered the pumpkin pancakes which were also great. We will definitely eat here again."

  • "A girlfriend and I went here for dinner before celebrating New Years and we both loved it. We got there early ordered drinks at the bar (where several others were eating appetizers, we were almost tempted to get one). We were seated promptly. We had the classic hummus (simple but delicious). We then split the pan-seared salmon (very good) and the mac & jack (a must order!!). I also ordered a side of spinach (nothing great). For dessert we split the flourless chocolate cake (I'm a sucker for the banana ice cream it was served with). The music was fun (Mariah Carey) but not too loud and the decorations looked young. Overall we both had a great time."

  • "We treated ourselves to a late lunch on Christmas Eve to celebrate an early release from work, so of course cocktails were de rigueur (and delicious)! They have a new "bargain" lunch menu including a beverage, in addition to their usual offerings; from it we chose a Mesclun salad with Portabello mushrooms and ricotta meatloaf on smashed redskin potatoes. Both were excellent choices. As a final splurge, we split an individual spiced pumpkin cheesecake; another hit: Spicy, not too sweet, and with genuine pumpkin flavor, nicely balanced. Waitstaff was friendly and cordial as always, and took great care of us. One of my favorite places in Midtown; tempted to eat my way through their menu."

  • "Way too crowded and the food was mediocre at best-- just bland and nothing special or memorable."

  • "The staff was good. Food was Fair. Two members of our group didn't like their roasted potatoes at breakfast. I wasn't crazy about the pumpkin pancakes, but it was my choice to try something different. Really didn't like the House Sausage. The kids enjoyed the chocolate pancakes, and the buttermilk pancakes. Friend who had the Salmon omlette loved it, Sweet potato fries over done. Excellent sparkling water."

  • "I've been to the Eatery many many times, but this was the first time for a weekend brunch. I had my reservations about corn flake-crusted french toast, but it was amazing. Only down side is the staff makes you feel rushed even when you're not and they don't need the table. I guess they're used to the weekday lunch crowd."

  • "Great place when seeing a show at one of more northerly theaters. Went with visiting relatives, one of whom is a vegetarian. Everything was excellent except for a very over-salty ravioli dish. But that was replaced quickly with a Winter Salad. All in all it was handled well by the solicitous staff."

  • "Recently took some out of town guests. With our reservation we were promptly seated. The drinks were creative and tasty. The staff was all very professional and friendly. And the food was delicious. Well presented, nice portions, and plenty of choices. My guests enjoyed the experience so much, we went back a second time at the end of their visit (with an even larger group), and again everything was smooth and enjoyable."

  • "I took my 79 yr old aunt to the Eatery and she loved it! I've eaten there several times and the food has always been wonderful. One suggerstion.... bring back the risotto side dish! The staff was knowledgable and friendly... we had great service."

  • "A relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and great food. I had the stuffed chicken breast in dill sauce and yogurt. A fine mix of tastes. I am hoping to make it back soon for the tuna. The hummus was great too. On he light side, my wife had the winter salad and my son a burger. Both enjoyed their selection."
