Diner Reviews
  • "Eat Street Buddha is an excellent place with fantastic food. Place itself is just the right size, good ambience, the food is delicious. The cranberry wontons and bad karma rolls are our favorites."

  • "We had been excited to try Buddha and it was fine but nothing outstanding. Origami is better and not more expensive. The service was very good, the restaurant pleasant but in that neighborhood it just doesn't stand out."

  • "Asian based food (rolls, sushi, wraps, stir fry and some non-Asian) are especially suitable to munch and share while drinking standards (martinis etc), more creative drinks beer , or wine . Roomy with flexible seating. Patrons of varied age. Service accommodating. All of our group of six were pleased and will return."

  • "The only reason I only gave it 4 stars was due to the fact that I just had outstanding sushi in (of all places) Portland. The sushi at Buddha is really good and should not be passed up when in the Eat Street Neighborhood."

  • "The food was beyond awesome. The service was great. But the prices are a little high,I was only able to go there because of a groupon, but I would go there again in a heartbeat!"

  • "Eat Street Buddha Kitchen and Lounge was a solidly positive experience for a mid-eve Friday night dinner in South Minneapolis. Our rez time was 7:30, and while the restaurant did have the buzz of activity, it did not feel crowded, loud or overrun by twenty-somethings looking to get their drink on. We went there to try out their Sushi offerings, and found their California Roll and Rainbow Roll to be perfectly pleasant and solidly on par with the average CA and Rainbow Rolls available throughout MPLS. However, the Eat Street Roll was unique and tasty! I would go back just to have this again. It's got crunch and heat with cooling avocado to make it a treat for the mouth. Service was excellent, wine list was solid, I will be back."

  • "Great sushi and lettuce wraps. Give time here I still understand the negative reviews that Yelp is giving this place I like it"

  • "Some of the items we ordered were okay and one was great, the Thai basil beef dish. I might come here again, but would not rush back."

  • "Although we missed the end of happy hours (7pm), my fiancee and I treated ourselves to their menu like it was still discounted. Appetizers were quick, and timed so our table-for-two was never overcrowded with plates. Drink specials were some of the finest cocktails my SO had had, and when we split a beer the staff actually brought us two half-glasses so we can both enjoy and sip along with our entres."

  • "Sushi was good. Service wasn't very good. Once our sushi arrived, the server didn't come back for almost 20 minutes. Then, our entrees came out cold. Most likely will not be going back."

  • "Food and service was ok. Just tried it as we got a groupon. Probably won't be going there again. Didn't find anything spectacular about the food or place. Just eh."

  • "Never have I been so appalled at customer service, or the lack thereof, as when I made a reservation during Restaurant Week for Eat Street Buddha. Asking our hostess to accommodate our reservation of 4 to add a 5th person - she refused. REFUSED. She said it was "unconventional" to have a 5th person at a 4 person table. Speechless. We did not want our 5th friend to have to leave, so we were quite literally forced to cancel our reservation - at 8:15pm as we were AT THE RESTAURANT. The hostess was beyond rude, non-apologetic, and quite honestly the least customer-service oriented person I have ever met. Never again will I step foot in this establishment. And I think it's safe to say, none of my 5 friends who were with will either."

  • "Must have been an off night...which is not good when it's your first time there! If their food and service doesn't change they won't last, yet again. I was looking forward to the restaurant week menu and was very disappointed. The cranberry puffs are worth coming back for but the entrees were nothing special (mongolian beef & noodles w/ shrimp) and would not come back based on them. Noodles were very bland."

  • "Went here as part of Restaurant Week. Bar service was excellent. Table service was slow, but it was busy and our server was also handling a very large table besides ours. The food was excellent. Spicy tuna roll was outstanding, even for someone who is not a huge sushi fan. However, at 10:00, the music was turned up so loud it was not possible to have a conversation. The servers had to shout to be heard. The front dining area was changed into a dance floor and it had taken on a nightclub atmosphere. I would recommend it for the food, but if you want a nice meal with conversation, make sure your reservations are early enough."

  • "After visiting, my girlfriend and I decided that this is a great place for happy hour and that is about it. The cream cheese wantons house salad dressing, and the spicey tuna roll were fantastic. The beef dish that I got tasted burnt and hers was some pineapple chicken dish. The chicken in it was unrecogniseable and I actually asked her if it was calimari they gave her. The lava cake desert was a let down as well. Room temperature cake from a box with chocolate piped into the middle and then flipped over is not chocolate lava cake and shouldn't be passed as such. Appetizers were amazing and the rest was terrible. I'll spend my 30$ a piece elsewhere for restraunt week next time."

  • "We arrived at 6:30 on Thursday of Restaurant week expecting the place to be jam packed... its restaurant week after all... but it was fairly empty. By the time we left at 8:30 (yes, it was over 2 hours for a small 3 course meal), it had picked up a bit. Clearly the kitchen couldn't handle the business though. There were long delays between courses... waited over 30 minutes for a lackluster dessert. The $11 Tang Dynasty was a shot size serving of a screwdriver in a fancy glass with too much ice. Skip it. Highlight of the meal were the handfolded potstickers. I'd go back just for those... but probably nothing else."

  • "We were informed right away that they were already our of the special dessert (Wednesday evening). Our apps were great and came fast. I ordered chicken pad Thai.It came out with barely any noodles, poor tasting chicken and tons of Serrano peppers which was not listed. All the other tables around us ordered the same thing and none of them looked like what I received. When I informed the server she stated that sometimes they come with extra sauce. She couldn't explain why no one else looked the same and she didn't seem to care. Another server came over and cared about how poor the meal was. Needless to say they comped my portion of the meal. Our server was not knowledgable about the menu at all. It also took her 22 min to get the check"

  • "I visited Buddha for the first time for Restaurant Week. I am frequently in the area and thought it would be a great opportunity to try out the restaurant. I had made reservations to avoid a long wait and we showed up a few minutes before the reservation. We weren't seated until half an hour after our reservation time and then did not even see our waitress until 30 minutes after that. Service after this continued to be slow despite the fact that the restaurant was now mostly empty and all other tables had already received their food (at this point nearing 10 pm on a week night). No apologies were given. I would like to give them the excuse of it being Restaurant Week but it's something they should have been prepared and staffed for."

  • "Our Resturant Week Pick - Marginal at best....the Dynamite Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll - very good. The Pad Thai was a totally miss, yet the Braised Beef Short Curry were delicious, worth ever bite. Izzy's Ice Cream is always a winner, and it did not let us down. However, the wait to be seating for an 8p reservation was far to long, 40 minutes. The bartender who served us was rude, but the house Pinot Grigios was a good choice (we selected). Finally, our server Ms. Julia....while noticeably hurried by the crowded restaurant, yet she presented herself pleasant and accommodating. She might have made our long wait worth the long trip from St. Michael. Oh yea, and the short ribs too."

  • "This was my first time eating at Buddha Kitchen. I went with a group of girls and it was perfect for us! The vibe of the restaurant is very cool, fits right in on eat street. I had the pad Thai and it was one of the best pad Thai dishes I've ever had! Such great flavor! I would definitely recommend giving Buddha kitchen a try :)"

  • "I loved this restaurant! The two hosts were friendly the food was great! And our waitress Tarah was awesome! She was very friendly and knowledgeable! She was spot on with recommending the honey walnut prawns. From what I could tell they handled Valentines day very well despite being very busy. I'll certainly be eating there again."

  • "Given that I went on Valentine's Day, I'm cutting the restaurant some slack. The food was decent but I wouldn't say anything was "great." The honey walnut prawns entree was the best part of our dinner, but it was a bit too sweet for my taste. The sushi took a really long time to come out and the flavor wasn't especially great/amazing. It's hard to give great reviews when there are so many other restaurants a few blocks down (in uptown) that are actually great. Although everything took a while to come out, our server was very attentive, which made the wait a bit more bearable. I think I would like to return when they aren't as busy to try other hot dishes but probably not the sushi."

  • "Food was awesome but the ambiance was lacking. Not as chic or as sexy inside as Azia was. Felt more like a half way point from a cheap Chinese restaurant and what Azia was. Was kind of sad that way. Food was really great though & had great house cocktails- loved the green one with cucumbers- I'd go back but not on a date night or with groups dressed up. And sadly was pretty dead on a Sat compared to its neighbors at Eat Street Social & Icehouse..."

  • "We bought the Groupon that was available to give this place a try. The sushi was ok- there was too much crab in most of the rolls, and I didn't find many of the specialty rolls to be very innovative. For what we got in our rolls, the prices are too high. Our reservation was at 8:00 on a Thursday night, and by the time 9:00 rolled around, the staff was stacking chairs and clearing out tables. I wasn't sure whether they were clearing the space for a dance floor or whether they were trying to close early. Either way, it felt like we were being rushed out of a restaurant that was clearly lacking customers. All in all, I would not return unless the menu and prices were adjusted."

  • "The sushi roll selection was fun and there was a decent selection. The waitress recommended some delicious, albeit, quite rich house specialty rolls. But they were tasty and I'd go back to try some others on the menu."

  • "Hostess was an absolute sweetheart, made a great first impression, Carlos was a fantastic server and made some great recommendations. Our seat was a two-person booth on the window, romantic with candles. Even on a cold night, wasn't chilly by the windows. Had the Crab Rangoons, Dragon Roll, Tuna Guacamole, and Mongolian beef, all excellent, but the Tuna Guac was the highlight. Only downside was that it was a little too quiet. Expected it to be more of a hot-spot/exciting atmosphere. At 8:30, it was only two-thirds full, especially considering the restaurant right next door and across the street were full. All in all, I would recommend, they are still new and trying to build clientele."

  • "Went on a snowy weeknight and the place was pretty empty (as expected). They have an expansive menu with good sushi and entree options. The sushi was excellent, very fresh and very filling. I would go again."

  • "Seared scallops to die for!!! Sushi is excellent!! I highly recommend you try it. You will not be disappointed!! Great service too!"

  • "The food was mediocre, we tried the lettuce wraps and a few roles of sushi. The sushi had no distinct taste and was falling apart. The lettuce wraps were just okay, probably the best thing we tried. The cocktails were just high in sugar. Our waitress was very slow, but at least she was nice."

  • "We had the Land and Sea spring roll, chicken satay, and the Eat Street Roll. All three were excellent. We were impressed by all items coming from the kitchen to be served to the surrounding tables. Everything looked delicious. Parking was a hassle, but that's true for any restaurant on Eat Street."

  • "Service got a little slow on a Saturday night, but still enjoyable. A nice service touch was free champagne for the ladies at the bar after dinner as a welcome to "late night at the Buddha". The mix of food that we shared was consistently good. I recommend upgrading to the Buddha rolls if you are doing sushi."

  • "We enjoyed 3 different appetizers and a 3 meals among the 4 of us. Every dish was exceptionally prepared, delicious and noteworthy. I am still thinking about that dinner! The four of us all talked about the fact that we would definitely come back. I have already told 3 or 4 people about this great find! Well done!"

  • "The food here was delicious! My whole group enjoyed their meals and the appetizers were terrific! I'll be back soon and introducing it to more people. The happy hour is a great deal also....try the lettuce wraps!"

  • "Understaffed in the front and kitchen was apparently understaffed too. Two main dishes came out 10-15 minutes after the rest of us were served. Manager comp'd the meals but was very poor experience. Asked the waitress a question about drinks and she never came back. Food is average at best. Not going back."

  • "Great sushi, awesome house sake. The three of us all ordered sushi and we shared. We were seated by a window and being winter it was cold! I really enjoyed the buddah roll. a birthday party in the back group area seemed to be having fun, its great that they have the space for that. Hope to return soon, reasonable prices. Please remove the hello kitty drink its overpriced and not good, if you also have noticed others are writing about it on yelp."
