Diner Reviews
  • "We all enjoyed our dinners--sat outside…all went well and we ended the night with expressos and wonderful desserts! :)"

  • "Casual, comfy, excellent service and food is amazing! Creative, farm to table vibe with great beer, wine and cocktail list. Love that you can make a meal of several small plates or order more traditional entree. Everything we ordered was delicious: the fresh Eastern Shore oysters, the roasted corn soup topped with lump crab and creme fraiche, the kale caesar, the short ribs with polenta and the crab two ways (softshell and crab cake), and the hot rum bread pudding with raspberry ice cream, fresh berries and caramel sauce."

  • "Enjoyable dinner with friends to celebrate a birthday. Many varied options, portions and price levels."

  • "I've been here a handful of times and loved it each time. The menu changes each time and there's always something new to try. They have a great beer selection and also get new selections in pretty frequently. This is a great place for a romantic dinner and drinks."

  • "My co-worker and I enjoy trying new, fun places when we travel. Eat. was the best of all of the places we tried in VA Beach and the surrounding suburb, Hampton. The filet was among one of the best I've ever had, and the wait staff was attentive and honestly friendly. An absolute MUST if you are in the area!"

  • "Eat : Simple but very well done Eat : Ample portions, well presented, well executed Eat : Great service Beer : Broad selection of local / regional beers. Interesting selections that match the menu. The menu is not huge, but everyone in this party of four throughly enjoyed our entrees and after dinner drinks."

  • "This restaurant was highly recommended by our son who is a local Executive Chef, so we knew we were in for a treat! The quaint atmosphere offered us a cozy table. Our waiter was very personable and accommodating. Normally, my spouse and I would not order the same entre but the Rockfish was irresistible to us both. What a great choice, the fish was delectable! The goat cheese salad and bread with home made butter was super tasty. Now, hold on to your hat for dessert, home made pistachio macaroons for me and Mr. Yummy had the bread pudding. We have had bread pudding from coast to coast, if it is on the menu, we order it. So when I say it was the best we have ever tasted it is not a flippant statement. Consider Eat - BAHZINGA!"

  • "We have been to Eat twice and have been blown away both times. It is our new favorite date spot. It is small and romantic and they have such a great variety of foods. Both my husband and I have ordered from the regular menu and the specials menu and both have been outstanding! I would recommend this place to anyone who likes well prepared food with a great atmosphere. We were blessed to get the same waiter both times went. He did not constantly bother us and he was he was well prepared with explanations to any questions we had! I am counting down the days until our next date night!"

  • "We had a wonderful romantic Valentine's Day dinner. The food was wonderful and the ambience wonderful."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "Valentine's weekend, was able to secure the last reservation 15 min before we arrived. We have eaten here before. Great experience both times! Menu is always changing, great specials. Dessert was amazing, and we can thank our waitress for the suggestion. Tiny hole in the wall restaurant that hasn't disappointed. Actually, we were last there in the early fall and it was hot out and the A/C was out that day. Staff were bringing in fans and really made it tolerable."

  • "i was recommended this place by an old co worker. after a few failed attempts to get reservations, we finally got one. i was let down that the food was just mediocre. i do not get what people see in this place"

  • "I go here at least once a month in the winter. It's in the the resort strip so it's too inconvenient for locals In the summer, plus it has zero parking. That said, the food is consistently outstanding, the bar and bartender are great, and it's worth putting up with a little hassle to eat there."

  • "The scenery and atmosphere of the restaurant was fantastic. It is a perfect restaurant for a date or a night out with friends. The food was spectacular and drinks were great. However, the service was absolutely atrocious. Our server talked in a disrespectful manner to our table throughout the entire night. He also took 30 minutes to even bring us our drinks. Other than the service, Eat is a fantastic restaurant."

  • "Second time there, food was fantastic. Server was very knowledgeable and attentive. There was a question from someone at the table that the waiter misunderstood to take as if we were implying he had made a mistake which was not the case at all, but his reaction was to immediately offer to correct it. The jump to immediately "make it right" was impressive and much appreciated, especially since no mistake was made. Would be 5 star service except for our salads came out when we still weren't through with our appetizers so that felt rushed and made for a very crowded table and there were dishes that weren't cleared when the runners brought out the salads. Will still go back!"

  • "My reason for going was restaurant week but I ended up eating from the daily specials. My main was "duck 3 ways", which was excellent. The wine pairings worked quite well. Service was excellent. Chef Erick and manager Chad are keeping the quality up at the high level I've experienced before. And they now have off-street parking!"

  • "I've dined at EAT on a number of occasions and it's always been an enjoyable experience. It's a nice place to go for good food and an atmosphere that allows for conversation with your dining partner(s). The service is always top notch. I would probably dine there more often is not for their limited parking which can be especially daunting in the frigid temperatures we've experienced lately."

  • "Eat is a hidden gem. Although on the oceanfront, it is not near the "tourist" scene. The decoration of the place was interesting. The menus were great and the food was awesome! An added feature was the price. Quite appealing! The only thing it lacked was the service. The server had no personality, questions regarding the wine were not truly answered. I will definitely return and would recommend it to others."

  • "This is the second time we have been to Eat. The first was during a restaurant week some time ago. It was very nice, but of course extremely busy. This time we went during a less hectic time and everything about this place was right. Food, drinks, and service. Our waitress Jessica was perfect. We will return."

  • "We made reservations weeks in advance. Two couples. Did not know it was restaurant week. Had a great table. Excellent service on a very busy night. The restaurant was full to capacity. Food was delicious! The chef even made a special dish for me to accommodate my allergy to shellfish. Many locals love this restaurant. We've been once before and were underwhelmed the first time. Now I'm a believer. We will be back... Often!"

  • "My husband and I chose this restaurant to try during restaurant week and were not disappointed. The food is pricey, but worth it considering the quality - it is prefect for a special occasion. It is more of a romantic spot; I don't think I would bring children here."

  • "EAT is an amazing place tucked into the north end of the VA Beach strip. We got a recommendation from a local waitress at Waterman's and decided to try it as part of our long weekend that also happened to be part of restaurant week. What a wonderful treat! The food was fresh, creative and outstanding! From the unusual combinations for salads and appetizers to the incredible desserts, my husband and I were blown away by the quality of every element of the meal. Our server was experienced and there at all the right times. Though we live in Richmond, we will put this on the top of our list the next time we are in town. It is not inexpensive but I think it is well worth it if you love great food!"

  • "Great service, creative menus and top quality. EATS was the top restaurant of the three that we dined in during the Virginia Beach Restaurant Week. Would return in a heart-beat. The restaurant is small and cozy. Reservations are a must if you want a good table."

  • "I dinned with 3 for restaurant week and the hostess was very accommodating when I needed to add one more person to our table. The food was so good it brought me back home and at the same time surprise me in a way I did not expect. The protein was proportion to sauce ; made me wanting to lick the plate. I've been to several high end restaurants this week for restaurant week and Eat was my favorite !!!"

  • "Don't know why, but after many years in Virginia Beach, we never knew about this restaurant. Now we do and give it high marks, among the best in VB. Foodies should give it a try."

  • "We had 2 appetizers: a variation of oysters Rockefeller with bacon and Bibb lettuce salad with slivers of gruyere, toasted pumpkin seeds with slices of warm butternut squash with a light creamy dressing. We each had the veal chops Oscar, that came with roasted asparagus and these lovely cheesy potato mini logs. We had grande manier creme brûlée and a triple chocolate sampling. Everything was artistically served on the plates."

  • "We added 2 last minute to become a party of 8 and they accomodated us nicely. Everything was great-attentibve, informative waiter who had some very good recommendations, tasty beverages and excellent food, all served well with courses well timed. My wife's shrimp and grits was outstanding, my oysters were great and my butternut squash soup was almost a meal in itself. Fun menu, lots of choices. Fourth time there and I'll be back."

  • "Stellar experience! In my reservation I'd asked for something special. What I got was an 11-course tasting menu, including off-menu items, plus wine pairings. YAY!!! The team delivered a creative, flavorful, visually appealing, and friendly experience. I was particularly impressed with the creativity. Marrow with basil-fed escargot and pernod was a happy surprise. Summer squash soup was paired with a reconstruction of the soup into a salad; the wine pairing was PERFECTO. Great foie with huckleberry marmalade. Octopus crodo and grilled. Perfectly roast lamb. There was boolgogi that came out sizzling on a blazing-hot rock. The service was excellent. The chef came out at the to check on my reaction. I give Eat my unqualified endorsement!!!"

  • "My husband and I had heard great things about this restaurant and read very nice reviews so we decided to dine there for my birthday. Everything from start to finish was absolutely wonderful. Our salads and bread were scrumptious. We both selected the grouper and is was divine. I enjoy cooking myself and do quite well so for me the whole experience of dining out is important: food , service and ambiance. Our waitress , Stevie, was pleasant, professional, attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. So we thoroughly enjoyed our entire dining experience. We will definitely be returning to this gem."

  • "This was my second time dining at Eat. The first time was so perfect, I was very much looking forward to going back to celebrate my son's 21st birthday. What kind of ruined the evening for us was the waiter. We asked if we could substitute one vegetable with another as the side for our entree and he said it was okay, but he was obviously perturbed by this request. I know that some chefs don't allow changes to their menu and that's fine, he could have just said no. For the rest of the evening he acted very put off by us, kind of like we were something the cat dragged in. I like good food, but I like good atmosphere and friendly service just as much. No matter how good the food might have been, the evening was a dud because of the waiter."
