Eat. An American Bistro -
Best Restaurants in Virginia Beach
I showed up for my reservation and
was turned away because they did not have enough servers... needless to say, my date and I were not impressed."

Used to live in Va Beach and
always make a point to dine at Eat when I am back for a visit. Everchanging creative menu and great wine pairings. Grilled octopus salad was amazing!"
Dined on 7/2/2014
Fantastic food, service and
surroundings. Love visiting here when I come to town. BUT no Hasselhoff burger? That's like going to Morton's and they tell you they don't have steak. It's a unique signature dish. Worth traveling from Washington,DC Oh well, maybe next time."
Dined on 7/1/2014
Eat has the BEST food, service and
drinks at the beach."
Dined on 6/29/2014
If you are looking for a unique
food, look no further than Eat. Imaginative combinations that are a delight to the palate. Loved everything I had. We will definitely get back there soon."
Dined on 6/18/2014
The filet was beautifully cut and
perfectly cooked. The chèvre mashers were so good I wanted to cry. A great night of eating!"
Dined on 6/21/2014
Great restaurant! The quality of
the food is very good and the presentation is lovely. Some of our favorites include :Mexican-style corn, the veggie lasagna, the iron-seared prime filet of beef, and we love their dijon-chive deviled eggs! Tried the crispy glazed brussels sprouts Friday night and they were excellent too. We love dining at Eat; especially dining outside. The patio ambience improved this summer with the nice green umbrellas they acquired for the tables. My only complaint is that it is hard to get a reservation!"
Dined on 6/20/2014
Wonderful food! Excellent service
and great wine recommendations. We loved it."
Dined on 6/16/2014
We no longer live in VA Beach but
when we visit we make a point of going to "Eat". We ate out on the patio so it was very quiet since we were the only ones out there. We just shared appetizers this time. Everything was delicious and portions were as described. Wine recommendation was perfect."
Dined on 6/13/2014
We ate here two evenings out of
the four we spent in VA Beach. Attentive, intelligent service, perfectly prepared imaginative food, and a menu that changes from time to time. We will always eat at Eat, whenever we go to Virginia Beach. It is small, so make sure you have reservations. Chef-owned. Locally sourced food."

I brought some business associates
from the mid-west to town for some training and we came here for dinner. They guests were raving about the food, service and ambiance. This place is one of my personal favorites because it is always consistent, delicious and the service is always impeccable. I can't say enough about this place.....LOVE IT!"

small place with great food. if
weather is nice sit outside "
Dined on 5/31/2014
You should eat here. The service
(Rob) was outstanding - helpful & the perfect amount of intervention. I had the nut crusted goat cheese salad w/pomegranate vinegar estate and a fish special - a crispy chunk of grouper on top of ratatouille resting on a bit of fresh made pasta. Fab presentation & flavors to match. Hubby went with the filet w/zin Demi glacé -- you never get tired of a perfectly cooked tender piece of beef - but he could have eaten a whole plate full of the mini baguette size grilled cheese that accompanied his yummy tomato basil soup. Totally loved this small, peaceful contemporary setting at the quiet north end of the boardwalk and may go back before our VA Beach visit is over "
Dined on 5/30/2014
Great place for dinner...food was
great and the service was the best! It is very close to the beach and we were able to stroll on the beach after dinner. Beautiful experience and I highly recommend EAT, An American Restaurant."
Dined on 5/24/2014
We dined with friends and each of
the 6 of us enjoyed our good quality meals. We will return to eat there."
Dined on 4/27/2014
We have been here several times
and both times the food and service exceeded our expextations. Our serer was appropriately engaged but allowed us to dine at our leisure. His knowledge and wine selection assistance were spot on. The food were prepared perdectly in perfect portions. We will be back soon!"
Dined on 4/20/2014
Food was amazing. Sit by door to
bathroom outside was annoying. Especially since it was windy and freezing. Server had to be asked several times for drink refills and other items. Friend sat without utensils for about 5 minutes after her food was brought. "
Dined on 4/18/2014
We found Eat on Opentable and it
looked very good and certainly delivered on that! Food was outstanding and better than anything we could have hoped to find in VA Beach. Wonderful meal, fish special was superb, lamb appetizer was super tasty, and everything else was as well. Great meal..."
Dined on 4/12/2014
We all enjoyed our dinners--sat
outside…all went well and we ended the night with expressos and wonderful desserts! :)"
Dined on 4/11/2014
Casual, comfy, excellent service
and food is amazing! Creative, farm to table vibe with great beer, wine and cocktail list. Love that you can make a meal of several small plates or order more traditional entree. Everything we ordered was delicious: the fresh Eastern Shore oysters, the roasted corn soup topped with lump crab and creme fraiche, the kale caesar, the short ribs with polenta and the crab two ways (softshell and crab cake), and the hot rum bread pudding with raspberry ice cream, fresh berries and caramel sauce."
Dined on 4/10/2014
Enjoyable dinner with friends to
celebrate a birthday. Many varied options, portions and price levels."
Dined on 4/9/2014
I've been here a handful of times
and loved it each time. The menu changes each time and there's always something new to try. They have a great beer selection and also get new selections in pretty frequently. This is a great place for a romantic dinner and drinks."
Dined on 4/8/2014
My co-worker and I enjoy trying
new, fun places when we travel. Eat. was the best of all of the places we tried in VA Beach and the surrounding suburb, Hampton. The filet was among one of the best I've ever had, and the wait staff was attentive and honestly friendly. An absolute MUST if you are in the area!"
Dined on 4/6/2014
What a fantastic experience. The
food and service is phenomenal."
Dined on 3/23/2014
Eat : Simple but very well
done Eat : Ample portions, well presented, well executed Eat : Great service Beer : Broad selection of local / regional beers. Interesting selections that match the menu. The menu is not huge, but everyone in this party of four throughly enjoyed our entrees and after dinner drinks."
Dined on 3/19/2014
This restaurant was highly
recommended by our son who is a local Executive Chef, so we knew we were in for a treat! The quaint atmosphere offered us a cozy table. Our waiter was very personable and accommodating. Normally, my spouse and I would not order the same entre but the Rockfish was irresistible to us both. What a great choice, the fish was delectable! The goat cheese salad and bread with home made butter was super tasty. Now, hold on to your hat for dessert, home made pistachio macaroons for me and Mr. Yummy had the bread pudding. We have had bread pudding from coast to coast, if it is on the menu, we order it. So when I say it was the best we have ever tasted it is not a flippant statement. Consider Eat - BAHZINGA!"

... By a foodie. Great innovative
menu. Tasty appetizers. Will be back."
Dined on 3/10/2014
We have been to Eat twice and have
been blown away both times. It is our new favorite date spot. It is small and romantic and they have such a great variety of foods. Both my husband and I have ordered from the regular menu and the specials menu and both have been outstanding! I would recommend this place to anyone who likes well prepared food with a great atmosphere. We were blessed to get the same waiter both times went. He did not constantly bother us and he was he was well prepared with explanations to any questions we had! I am counting down the days until our next date night!"
Dined on 3/8/2014
We had a wonderful romantic
Valentine's Day dinner. The food was wonderful and the ambience wonderful."
Dined on 2/15/2014
Valentine's weekend, was able to
secure the last reservation 15 min before we arrived. We have eaten here before. Great experience both times! Menu is always changing, great specials. Dessert was amazing, and we can thank our waitress for the suggestion. Tiny hole in the wall restaurant that hasn't disappointed. Actually, we were last there in the early fall and it was hot out and the A/C was out that day. Staff were bringing in fans and really made it tolerable."
Dined on 2/15/2014
i was recommended this place by an
old co worker. after a few failed attempts to get reservations, we finally got one. i was let down that the food was just mediocre. i do not get what people see in this place"
Dined on 2/13/2014
I go here at least once a month in
the winter. It's in the the resort strip so it's too inconvenient for locals In the summer, plus it has zero parking. That said, the food is consistently outstanding, the bar and bartender are great, and it's worth putting up with a little hassle to eat there."
Dined on 2/8/2014
The scenery and atmosphere of the
restaurant was fantastic. It is a perfect restaurant for a date or a night out with friends. The food was spectacular and drinks were great. However, the service was absolutely atrocious. Our server talked in a disrespectful manner to our table throughout the entire night. He also took 30 minutes to even bring us our drinks. Other than the service, Eat is a fantastic restaurant."
Dined on 2/7/2014
Second time there, food was
fantastic. Server was very knowledgeable and attentive. There was a question from someone at the table that the waiter misunderstood to take as if we were implying he had made a mistake which was not the case at all, but his reaction was to immediately offer to correct it. The jump to immediately "make it right" was impressive and much appreciated, especially since no mistake was made. Would be 5 star service except for our salads came out when we still weren't through with our appetizers so that felt rushed and made for a very crowded table and there were dishes that weren't cleared when the runners brought out the salads. Will still go back!"
Dined on 2/1/2014
My reason for going was restaurant
week but I ended up eating from the daily specials. My main was "duck 3 ways", which was excellent. The wine pairings worked quite well. Service was excellent. Chef Erick and manager Chad are keeping the quality up at the high level I've experienced before. And they now have off-street parking!"
Dined on 1/15/2014
I've dined at EAT on a number of
occasions and it's always been an enjoyable experience. It's a nice place to go for good food and an atmosphere that allows for conversation with your dining partner(s). The service is always top notch. I would probably dine there more often is not for their limited parking which can be especially daunting in the frigid temperatures we've experienced lately."
Dined on 1/24/2014
Eat is a hidden gem. Although on
the oceanfront, it is not near the "tourist" scene. The decoration of the place was interesting. The menus were great and the food was awesome! An added feature was the price. Quite appealing! The only thing it lacked was the service. The server had no personality, questions regarding the wine were not truly answered. I will definitely return and would recommend it to others."
Dined on 1/23/2014
This is the second time we have
been to Eat. The first was during a restaurant week some time ago. It was very nice, but of course extremely busy. This time we went during a less hectic time and everything about this place was right. Food, drinks, and service. Our waitress Jessica was perfect. We will return."
Dined on 1/22/2014
We made reservations weeks in
advance. Two couples. Did not know it was restaurant week. Had a great table. Excellent service on a very busy night. The restaurant was full to capacity. Food was delicious! The chef even made a special dish for me to accommodate my allergy to shellfish. Many locals love this restaurant. We've been once before and were underwhelmed the first time. Now I'm a believer. We will be back... Often!"
Dined on 1/18/2014
My husband and I chose this
restaurant to try during restaurant week and were not disappointed. The food is pricey, but worth it considering the quality - it is prefect for a special occasion. It is more of a romantic spot; I don't think I would bring children here."
