  • Great birthday dinner!!

I love this restaurant for it's vibrant, fun atmosphere. Great for all ages. We were here for my dad's 88th birthday dinner. I had the Wednesday grilled fish special that was done perfectly. My dad had a vegetarian portobello mushroom burger on a bagel which he loved as well. The praline bread pudding and the chocolate mousse cake we had for dessert were also excellent. As far as service, I can't say enough about how nice they were. First, we were seated close to the door to the outside patio. My dad got cold so they quickly seated us at another table without any hassle. Then, they accidentally lost my son's "doggie bag" from dinner and made him another one with fresh food. Incredible! Can't wait to go back.

Had some amaxing cocktails here! However, the food was only okay-- nothing exciting. I had the special gnocchi and we also ordered calamari and veal sweetbread for the table. The appetizers were also extremely small for the price. Overall our experience was good-- we had a great server who was very accommodating, but I'm not sure we would go back for more than drinks.

First time at Eastern Standard and was greatly disappointed. The menu for Sunday Brunch was extremely limited and extremely overpriced. There were six of us, and no one was impressed by their meal. Perhaps the worst thing about our experience was that the sound level was so high that we could not have a conversation without shouting. This was at one o'clock in the afternoon. Only positive was that our waitress was efficient, even though she had to repeat herself because of the noise level.

I went there for my birthday and it was absolutely fantastic. Had the charcuterie board, 3-cheese board, bone marrow, and sweetbreads to start. They were all outstanding! For an entree I had the roasted hake and it was one of the most delicious and intriguing plates I've ever had. Even the cocktails were exquisite. I can't wait to go back again!

Our party was celebrating the wedding of a Red Sox fan to a Yankees fan! We were treated like royalty. The staff was very sweet, polite, and generous. We were treated to a champagne toast, and a lovely appetizer, on the house. So unexpected, but sincerely appreciated. Our waiter, Nico, couldn't have been nicer, or more professional. I highly recommend Eastern Standard. It's casual elegance, attentive waitstaff, and wonderful food, will warrant a return visit.

Food is just ok. Ambience and drinks and service are good. Valet is now a mess - you have to reserve (which we did), the restaurant and valet didn't communicate well, we paid with dinner, car was supposed to be called, after 20 min we asked valet and no one had been notified. When car came had to run back in for proof we paid. Won't hurry back.

I loved the overall atmosphere - even for lunch....nice buzz, feels classy and fun. Salad was great, and the bread pudding dessert was AMAZING. My lunch was mediocre - I got a portobello mushroom sandwich and the mushrooms were cooked, but cold, and it was on a fancy, soft bagel (which was fine), but I expected something kind of warm and toasty with the goat cheese. Overall though, a good experience and I would go back. And our waiter, I think his name was Nico, was SO great...knew all about beers and wines and was the perfect amount of attentive while giving us our space. He also picked up on the fact that it was a birthday lunch without us telling him, and brought the dessert with "Happy birthday" written on it. Great service.

Dined here on the 30th October as attached to the Commonwealth hotel where we stayed. Ambiance generally good athough a little on the noisy side due to the crowd on the bar side of the room. Food was well presented although the menu was a bit limited and cooked nicely. Generally a good experience but a little pricey. Also had breakfast here a couple of times and that was well done with a decent menu choice.

We were in Boston for the first time and stopped in for brunch. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming; the food for brunch was terrific. Quiche was fabulous; one of the best bloody marys I've ever had; incredible fries and burger -- our group loved it all. The menu isn't huge, but the offerings seem thoughtfully chosen and well-executed. We sat outdoor on the heated patio, and the service was attentive without being too much. A wonderful waitstaff which seemed genuinely interested in our comfort. We'll definitely go there again.

Interior is relaxed tetro elegance. Our waitress was not flexible when my friend asked for a tequila sunrise( she was foreign, Russian or eastern European hense the rigid mentality) she made my friend feel like she was asking for a drink from Mars, didn't even leave it up to the bartender ( she ended up ordering wine) I orfeted one of their specialty drinks( was not impressed. Glass looked like one from my moms cabinet from the60's,no trendy garnish like an herb stick. Was not impressed. Back to my friend: she ordered a salad and didn't want the blue cheese dressing that came with it. Again the waitress made her feel uncomfortable and didn't know how to make a substitution for the dressing. Overall it was not the experience I was expecting.

Eastern Standard has become my favorite restaurant in Boston. It's the first place I think of when someone comes from out of town and I want to impress them. The food is always outstanding, and the service is routinely superb, as it was this past Tuesday night. My friends loved the raw bar selections (especially the oyster choice), and the very creative cocktail options. I could have eaten three or four of the roasted beet salad appetizer. It was that good. For dessert, we had the Butterscotch Bread Pudding (an old favorite), the house-made coconut ice cream, and the Chocolate Mousse Cake. My friend who's also a foodie thought the mousse cake would be boring, and was stunned at how nuanced and delicious it was.

I had both dinner and brunch at Eastern Standard, while visiting my son at BU for parents weekend. This turned out to be a great spot for meeting up with my college student, and while the atmosphere was somewhat upscale, it was comfortable for him to show up in shorts. Both dining experiences were excellent. My server on Friday night was especially great, as my son arrived very late (after dinner was actually served) and the server kept his plate warm, and in no way hurried us through our meal. I will definately return to this restaurant.

I have eaten at Eastern Standard many times -- at least twice a month. It is a solid, reliable choice for a business breakfast or lunch and excellent for after work drinks. Waitstaff and bar staff are knowledgable. Here are two drawbacks - the menu is tired and the coffee is not good. Minor points to be sure in the overall scheme of things, but room for improvement.

We were celebrating our anniversary in Boston and chose this restaurant. The ambiance is very nice. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable. My husband had the hake and really enjoyed his meal. I had the half roasted chicken and it was mediocre. We eat often at Eastern Standard and almost always find it excellent. But on our last couple of visits, things have not run so smoothly. This time, we had an excessively long wait for our food. When it came, the steak was delicious and cooked very rare as ordered. But my dish and the side vegetable were both totally cold and needed to be replaced. The servers were, as every, very gracious and accommodating, and the management did the right thing by reducing the bill. Eastern Standard is still one of our standards, not least for the excellent service. But it seems no longer to run with all the predictable excellence that it used to. Let's hope that they pull things back up to the previous level!

I had lunch with a friend on the sidewalk patio. The outdoor space is nicely done and comfortable but it can be noisy, being in the middle of Kenmore Square with buses and trucks going by. Our waiter was friendly and the service was fine, except that we were not offered any coffee or tea after our main courses were finished. He just brought the bill without any interaction. I had the Nicoise salad, which was very nice, although a bit over-dressed with vinaigrette. It could have used a few more lettuce leaves to make the portion a bit more satisfying.
