Diner Reviews
  • "Whenever I have tickets to a Red Sox home game, love to hit this spot pre and post-game. Lively Bistro-esque atmosphere, peppy music, yuppies and dyed-in-the-wool Bostonians mile with tourists and college kids alike. Great food. Husband and I shared a perfectly cooked steak, with light béarnaise, LOVE their rendition of an upscale Romaine wedge salad, and the onion dip and chips was a yummy appetizer. Never have had a bad meal, although during high traffic times (like baseball games) don't expect waiters to hover over you - its a busy and crowded spot - for a good reason."

  • "We love dining at Eastern Standard. It has become our place to sit and enjoy an amazing meal with fantastic wine before we head to the Red Sox game. It was a true pleasure this time and we will be sure to return."

  • "Delicious food, service should have been more attentive. Entree arrived before appetizer was finished, let alone cleared. Steak delivered with no steak knife and side order of veg was omitted..."

  • "I have eaten at Eastern Standard many times before ballgames and have always found the food to be very good. Our last visit was a surprise; the sandwiches were sparse, dry, and bland, much like you might find in a day old cold case. Tried the peach salad, which would likely have been delicious if the peaches had been ripe. Hope this was just a bad night in the kitchen and creeping decline."

  • "I used to frequent Eastern Standard quite regularly. The food is great and filling. However, the service has been abysmal. It took our group over an hour to get drinks and appetizers and our waiter switched multiple times. We were prepared to order dinner as well, but after the lack of attention, we decided to close out and leave."

  • "came for my brother's birthday. calamari was over cooked but rib eye was done perfectly just as I ordered. will definitely come again."

  • "Eastern Standard reliably delivers a delightful meal, particularly if you like seafood. The service is excellent, it was easy to get a reservation, and the food is great. I'd recommend this to anyone looking for a nice dinner out with friends in the Fenway Kenmore area."

  • "You have to love the great ambiance at this spot that has better chow than you think you should find in a large bustling Kenmore Square spot such as this. Service and wine list also impress. Has become an area institution... and the place to be if you want the best before a Sox game. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED"

  • "Noisy (nix the music) with limited menu, and sparse wine list. The special (whole Bronzino ) was over cooked. Service was really outstanding but the valet parking is a hoax (it's down the street at a hotel) and it took an hour to retrieve my vehicle."

  • "One of my favorite go to restaurants, never disappoints! Cheese plates are always on point and full of variety, get the 5! Love their salads, the romaine is great and sized well for an app or entree. Their cocktail list is so original, definitely try the guayabana arabica drink, it's out of this world! (I spelled it wrong but you'll know it when you see it!)"

  • "We have been visiting ES for years and always enjoy the experience. I did find the drink menu a bit disappointing, as I'm not a fan of gin or vermouth. The waitress was able to suggest something agreeable that wasn't on the menu The entrees seemed oddly Autumnal, especially given the warm summer evening, but service was, as ever, great."

  • "It is obviously a very popular brunch spot. Yet the menu was strange. No eggs benedict, no omelettes. What??? The waitress agreed to have an omelette made for me which was nice, but really, no eggs benedict for brunch? Also, my son ordered an egg dish that was supposed to be a loose tomato sauce with easy over fried eggs in it, but the whole thing came out dried out and overcooked. Someone obviously left it under the broiler way too long but then the chefs sent it out anyway. The waitress, who was fantastic, immediately took it back and gave him a free fruit salad while he waited."

  • "The steak tartar is AMAZING. I feel like I could eat about five of those appetizers. My father (who is a very picky eater as of late) also raved about the food."

  • "Unfortunately, we were a Bacardi Rum drinking group & then our wonderful waiter found us a bottle and we were able to drink during dinner. If it weren't for him, would have been very disappointed."

  • "Waitress was very friendly and attentive. She had no problem giving her opinion on the food and always steered us in the right direction. The inside of the restaurant was beautiful and all together we had a very positive dining experience"

  • "Eastern Standard is one of my very favorite places to eat, hang out or just have a drink. The food is fabulous, the service is great and the ambiance is fantastic. Recommend folks to go here. With kids, I'd go on the earlier side. They take reservations but have first come first serve tables near the bar - which is fabulous as well."

  • "I had been there many times before on business, but my husband had never eaten at ES. I took him for his birthday. We both had amazing meals and the service was fantastic. He raved about it for the rest of the weekend. Would go back in a heartbeat."

  • "Great meal with decent service, very tasty and unique drinks. The price tag was high, even for that quality of food, but wouldn't deter me from coming back."

  • "my client was able to valet park his car as i had made dinner reservations prior to Sox game. It made me look like a hero. The food, drinks, service was awesome. Thanks!"

  • "This a great place for food before a ball game. We had the whole fish and the rib eye which were excellent. Great choice of crafted draught beer. I'd come her even if there wasn't a game but knowing you can get a very good meal rather than eating the suspect food at the park is a plus."

  • "Really nice place with great drinks, and great food. Oysters are always good. It's a bit on the expensive side for what you get, but considering its location, that's not surprising (great place to eat or drink before/after Red Sox games)."

  • "It was a great place to go before the game and have really good food in a quieter atmosphere."

  • "We always brunch at the Eastern Standard when we go to Red Sox games. They are perfectly located near Fenway and offer patio dining. They provide cover in the rain, and outside heaters if it is chilly. And, it is cool in the warmer months. Their menu is varied and changes, from breakfast foods like home made granola and yogurt, a variety of egg dishes, delicious salads with local produce, and sandwiches; all are sure to please. I have enjoyed the grilled peach salad with prosciutto; omelette; and mushroom/leek quiche; and my husband has had the fresh tuna salad; brisket sandwich; and french toast. The ambiance is delightful with a feeling of "old Boston" and local decor. This is a great place to dine."

  • "My husband and I recently dined at ES for our anniversary. The service was excellent, the food and drinks very good (flat iron steak for me and trout for my husband) and we would recommend for any occasion."

  • "A real gem in an area known for fast food and pizza joints, Eastern Standard is a short walk to Fenway Park and can include valet parking for dinner and a game. The drink, wine and beer list is extensive and the food is varied from appetizers to light and full entrees and desserts. We had an early dinner before the Red Sox game, and the place was packed, but our reservation was honored immediately, service was great and we enjoyed our drinks and dinner."

  • "Everything is always excellent. Oysters were top notch, great wine list, good steaks, seafood, and with items like make and cheese and burgers, you can always find something for kids. Great to have an option like this in Kenmore Sq."

  • "We were in town staying at the Hotel Commonwealth for a Red Sox game. Eastern Standard is attached to the hotel. We had dinner there our first night. The menu was original, and the food was fabulous. Service was impeccable, and the restaurant had a nice energy and ambiance. We also had room service breakfast every morning which is made at the same restaurant. Breakfast was outstanding and we highly recommend the French toast and egg white frittata. Will definitely eat here again our next time in Boston!"

  • "They have awesome food, the most delicious calamari and bone marrow in Boston , their beer collection is one of the best in Massachusetts and they serve you with their outstanding service"

  • "Great before or after a Red Sox game if you are looking for something much nicer than the food right around the ball park, but it is a bit pricey. Good place for a date night or special occasion as well."

  • "I think the dress code might be a bit more strict on other nights, but shorts okay after the Billy Joel Concert and, I imagine, after games! This is a great place for fine-dining in an upscale pub setting. Seems to stand alone with sidewalk seating out front, but shares restroom with attached hotel. Ordered off the dinner menu after 11pm, even though I was told there was a "late night menu" after 11:00pm. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with this place! We will go back anytime we are in the area."

  • "First off - Eastern Standard never lets me down. Best cocktail menu in the city, superb service from the minute you enter to the second you leave. Went for my anniversary dinner and they took care of us and then some. Mara, our waitress, was fantastic - super attentive without being nosy, and gave us a few drink suggestions off-menu."

  • "I had some out of town business guests in the city for the night and my first choice was Eastern Standard. I have been coming for years because the food is always great and the service is simply perfect- everyone is happy, knowledgable, and anticipated your needs and wants before you even now you have them. Kudos to the team for another great night!"

  • "We went here because it is part of the Hotel Commonwealth where we were staying. At first we were apprehensive because the noise level near the bar was high but we were seated at a table away from the noise and were very happy. Our drinks were expertly prepared and came with delicious bread and a compote of marinated vegetables. We both ordered the trout and it was melt in your mouth good. Our meal was followed by the butterscotch bread pudding with praline ice cream which was a fine way to end a fine dining experience."
