  • "Comfort food with a twist, awesome cocktails, friendly service --- what else could you want?! ES is one of our favorite regular spots :)"

  • "Enjoyed a spring-y cocktail with aperol, rhubarb vermouth, pink bubbles. Velvety woodland mushroom soup -- just delicious. A slow braise daube was simply satisfying. Many thanks again to Andrew for his warm hospitality and endless reservoir of knowledge of all things culinary -- and beer."

  • "Walking in the door feels like stepping into a lively Paris brasserie - the ambiance is great. Without exception, every Interaction we had with the staff was friendly and professional, especially our server. Our food was delicious: we shared steammed mussels to start and we both had the flat iron steak and fries. The only reason for the 4 stars and not 5 is because we had to send one steak back for being overly salted. But without skipping a beat it was handled quickly and redone perfectly. We finished with a shared serving of tasty ice cream and very good coffee.I can't wait to return!"

  • "I have been here before and had better food and service. I had the seared tuna salad and it came with 3 tiny pieces of tuna. It tasted good but it was not big enough for lunch, My client had the salmon and it was very good. The service was slow and dijointed."

  • "This restaurant holds a part of my heart from good memories spent in it...but with that aside, wow! The foie gras, the oysters, the beer list! Love the bar, which is warm and inviting. Lovely area outside to sit in the summer. Just love it here."

  • "We were seated immediately, even though we were very early for our reservation. We obtained the very table we wanted. The service was timely and attentive, the food was of high quality, and the ambience was sufficiently romantic. Additionally, its proximity to Fenway Park made it a perfect choice."

  • "As the restaurant in the Commonwealth Hotel, it has a hip sophistication, Lively, but elegant ambiance. Delicious seasonal options, terrific bar w/a fabulous wine list, Beer and creative cocktail selections. Excellent friendly, attentive service. Highly recommend it."

  • "Salmon dish was delicious and the creme brule great for a nice lunch. It was a little cold sitting close to the window and we could feel a cool draft from the ceiling. The maitre d' and the wait staff were great! We appreciated the service."

  • "This a restaurant that does everything well. From hamburgers to foie gras. And it manages to maintain an upscale yet welcoming ambience. I highly recommend it to everyone."

  • "I've been several times. Food selection is limited, OK but a bit overpriced. Service is good, but the noise level is too high; i was hoarse by the end of the evening. Also the lighting is too dim at dinner."

  • "On one of the first spring-like evenings this year, a friend and I had dinner at Eastern Standard. Our table happened to be beneath an air conditioning blower (this is March, mind you) that was blasting cold air. We asked the waitress to have the cold air turned down, but it continued to blow throughout the meal despite her promises to turn it down. The food was ok, although the gloppy sauercrautish veges beneath the Pollack were cold from the breeze, so dinner wasn't an entire success. It is tough to go to a restaurant and pay for a nice evening out, only to get attitude. I hope ES will try harder next time and listen to patrons who ask politely for comfort while they dine."

  • "Eastern Standard is a long-term success for good reason. The room is lovely in a bustling French bistro way, the lighting appealingly low, the food well-exectued, tasty and thoughtfully presented. The service we experienced, which would be impressive any day of the week, was truly amazing on a hopping Friday night. Timing was perfect and the level of attention (a taste of the wine before ordering a full glass, checking oyster condiment supplies) made us feel happy to spend our dining dollars there. The staff is very well trained and the little touches - bussers scooting out your way with a smile so you can pass easily, for example - are such a refreshing change from places where staff doesn't seem to care about or enjoy their jobs."

  • "Nice booth was ready for us when we walked in for our reservation. Server was so helpful in giving us suggestions. Very comfortable- hostess offered to check our bags. Drinks were out of this world. Food and drinks came very quickly and were of great quality! Would recommend brunch here to everyone! Great location and if it is nice out there is outdoor seating available. Bar scene is roomy with a lot of high top tables."

  • "After a few years of people telling me how much I would "love" Eastern Standard, and after years of one thing or another getting in the way of me going, I finally made it to ES last Tuesday, and you know what, everyone was right: I LOVE this place. Like I said in the title of my review, this is the bar I could see myself going to every day for fifty years. One night, I don't come in, the bartenders get worried, call the police, and they find my old, wrinkled corpse in my penthouse apartment (the one I'll be living in at the time, of course), and that's how my death is discovered. But seriously, this place is awesome."

  • "I've always heard fantastic things about Eastern Standard. Sadly I wasn't blown away. I went for brunch and the menus was more on the lunch side of brunch which is fine, but the burger wasn't very flavorful and the fries were extremely salty. The drinks however were very good. Our waiter didn't make much of an effort, I suspect he had a rough night or annoying customers all morning. Didn't introduce himself or welcome us to the restaurant, started by simple asking what would would like to drink. Not terrible service but didn't go out of his way. Bottom line is that while Eastern may be very good for dinner, brunch isn't there forte."

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city! I'm never disappointed when I come here- everything is always superb from the food to the drinks to the service, I've never had a bad experience here! This was my first time having Brunch at Eastern Standard and I will be back for sure! The menu had a great selection and everything was delicious as always. I had the braised beef sandwich and my husband had the quiche both were excellent! Don’t miss out on the cocktails here they are probably the best in all of Boston, the mixologists/bartenders here are truly artists!"

  • "Poor, slow service. It may have been due to restaurant week. However, waiting an hour for our food on a weekday lunch was a bit excessive."

  • "We enjoy the wine and entree for restaurant week event."

  • "The place has good bistro food, and they have Plymouth gin for some of the best dry martini's in Boston. The service is superb. The warmth and graciousness is comparable to the bistro's in Paris or Lyon. It's a terrific place to go any time after 7:30 when the Red Sox are in town. (Before 7:30, it is too crowded.)"

  • "The expansive bar is great. The food is usually consistent except for last night. The foie gras terrine was stone cold and could not be cut until it warmed up to room temperature to eat. More than halfway through the meal. Maybe they were just too busy."

  • "Came here for restaurant week with my girlfriend. The food was excellent. Our waiter was perfect. He didn't bother us and he brought me a new napkin and didn't make a scene when I was a klutz and spilled water on myself."

  • "Our experience at Eastern Standard was wonderful. The food, service, and drinks were perfect. Our waitress treated us like we were the only ones there even though it was a busy night. Her recommendation on the wine was spot on"

  • "We dined for lunch (Restaurant Week) and could not have been more pleased - setting is elegant without being "snobby" - food for all 3 courses was delicious and creative without being "over the top" - and waitstaff very attentive (with exception of a bit of delay waiting for check). It was a fun experience all around."

  • "I fell in love with ES when I first moved to Boston in 2010. It remains my favorite place to go in town. I don't get to see "her" as often as I once did when I lived right down the street, but if anything I appreciate her more when I do get to stop in. This brunch, with family in town, was as good as ever. Special kudos to our server, Colin, whom I had not previously met, but who upholds the excellence to which I've become accustomed from ES."

  • "Came here for a girlfriends birthday brunch. When I made the reservation I asked if they could pop a candle in her dessert and they did one better by bringing over a custard donut with green frosting (friends birthday is on Saint Pat's) with a candle along with a chocolate Happy Birthday message written on the plate. The blueberry pancakes we're delicious! Ordered eggs over medium and they were perfect. E.S went above and beyond plus their food was great so I'll definitely be back. :)"

  • "Eastern Standard is always a fantastic choice for nearly any occasion. The beer list had been recently expanded, and included the recent Spencer Trappist Ale, and the wine list now spans two menus, one for full bottles, and one for by the glass or half-bottle. The entrees were prepared perfectly, and the desserts were delicious. But the highlight was truly the flight of dessert wines - a must-try!"

  • "Eastern Standard is one of those restaurants that you really want to be good. It stands out in Kenmore Square, and you would really hope that the food would stand out too. However, this is not the case. I have been a few times now, and every time I did not order the Burger I wished I had. The other offerings on the menu sound good when you read about them, but thus far I have never had anything I have enjoyed except the burger. Drinks are good. Ambiance is good. Service is good. Food is so-so. Also, it is just a bit more expensive than it should be. Dinner for two for $85 including tip. Just too much for ES."

  • "Not a great choice unless you are a red meat eater. Very limited choices in the non meat area. I had the half chicken. It was a huge portion and the chicken was very good, but it was served only with a few carrots and some very tough kale. For $26. It would have been nice to have an additional side or something more edible than the kale. Service was excellent. Restaurant was packed so others must enjoy the food more than I did. At one time I thought the food was great and there were more choices for someone who does not like red meat. That is not the case now. I won't be back."
