Diner Reviews
  • "This a great place for food before a ball game. We had the whole fish and the rib eye which were excellent. Great choice of crafted draught beer. I'd come her even if there wasn't a game but knowing you can get a very good meal rather than eating the suspect food at the park is a plus."

  • "my client was able to valet park his car as i had made dinner reservations prior to Sox game. It made me look like a hero. The food, drinks, service was awesome. Thanks!"

  • "Really nice place with great drinks, and great food. Oysters are always good. It's a bit on the expensive side for what you get, but considering its location, that's not surprising (great place to eat or drink before/after Red Sox games)."

  • "It was a great place to go before the game and have really good food in a quieter atmosphere."

  • "Eastern Standard has an excellent raw bar, great drinks and the perfect atmosphere for dining before a Red Sox Game."

  • "We always brunch at the Eastern Standard when we go to Red Sox games. They are perfectly located near Fenway and offer patio dining. They provide cover in the rain, and outside heaters if it is chilly. And, it is cool in the warmer months. Their menu is varied and changes, from breakfast foods like home made granola and yogurt, a variety of egg dishes, delicious salads with local produce, and sandwiches; all are sure to please. I have enjoyed the grilled peach salad with prosciutto; omelette; and mushroom/leek quiche; and my husband has had the fresh tuna salad; brisket sandwich; and french toast. The ambiance is delightful with a feeling of "old Boston" and local decor. This is a great place to dine."

  • "Everything is always excellent. Oysters were top notch, great wine list, good steaks, seafood, and with items like make and cheese and burgers, you can always find something for kids. Great to have an option like this in Kenmore Sq."

  • "My husband and I recently dined at ES for our anniversary. The service was excellent, the food and drinks very good (flat iron steak for me and trout for my husband) and we would recommend for any occasion."

  • "A real gem in an area known for fast food and pizza joints, Eastern Standard is a short walk to Fenway Park and can include valet parking for dinner and a game. The drink, wine and beer list is extensive and the food is varied from appetizers to light and full entrees and desserts. We had an early dinner before the Red Sox game, and the place was packed, but our reservation was honored immediately, service was great and we enjoyed our drinks and dinner."

  • "We were in town staying at the Hotel Commonwealth for a Red Sox game. Eastern Standard is attached to the hotel. We had dinner there our first night. The menu was original, and the food was fabulous. Service was impeccable, and the restaurant had a nice energy and ambiance. We also had room service breakfast every morning which is made at the same restaurant. Breakfast was outstanding and we highly recommend the French toast and egg white frittata. Will definitely eat here again our next time in Boston!"

  • "Don't let the name Eastern Standard "Bar" fool you. This is a full up restaurant.....a very good full up restaurant with a vibrant bar scene. The service is spot on!! Try the Blueberry Thrill martini!!"

  • "We were delaying in our dinner for the evening so we were pleased ESK was open late. All the food was very good- I just wish the server wasn't rushing us along. She kept wanting us to order right away and we still hadn't made our decision. So once we placed our order nothing was really staggered it all basically came out same time."

  • "I think the dress code might be a bit more strict on other nights, but shorts okay after the Billy Joel Concert and, I imagine, after games! This is a great place for fine-dining in an upscale pub setting. Seems to stand alone with sidewalk seating out front, but shares restroom with attached hotel. Ordered off the dinner menu after 11pm, even though I was told there was a "late night menu" after 11:00pm. Seriously, there's nothing wrong with this place! We will go back anytime we are in the area."

  • "They have awesome food, the most delicious calamari and bone marrow in Boston , their beer collection is one of the best in Massachusetts and they serve you with their outstanding service"

  • "Had a great time at Eastern Standard on a Thursday night a while back, food & drinks were amazing as always. We were given a free round of drinks & a free burger over a minor mishap we wouldn't have been bothered by. As a industry worker, i'm always very impressed by the level of service & the quality of product at Eastern Standard"

  • "Great before or after a Red Sox game if you are looking for something much nicer than the food right around the ball park, but it is a bit pricey. Good place for a date night or special occasion as well."

  • "First off - Eastern Standard never lets me down. Best cocktail menu in the city, superb service from the minute you enter to the second you leave. Went for my anniversary dinner and they took care of us and then some. Mara, our waitress, was fantastic - super attentive without being nosy, and gave us a few drink suggestions off-menu."

  • "I had some out of town business guests in the city for the night and my first choice was Eastern Standard. I have been coming for years because the food is always great and the service is simply perfect- everyone is happy, knowledgable, and anticipated your needs and wants before you even now you have them. Kudos to the team for another great night!"

  • "We went here because it is part of the Hotel Commonwealth where we were staying. At first we were apprehensive because the noise level near the bar was high but we were seated at a table away from the noise and were very happy. Our drinks were expertly prepared and came with delicious bread and a compote of marinated vegetables. We both ordered the trout and it was melt in your mouth good. Our meal was followed by the butterscotch bread pudding with praline ice cream which was a fine way to end a fine dining experience."

  • "I was hoping for a bigger variety in their brunch menu (I can make scrambled eggs with toast at home!), but was happy enough with the raw seafood bar choices and some standouts (Shrimp grits were amazing!). Service was good, but I was confused as to who our waiter was because he didn't introduce himself at first, and we waited for quite a while at the start. The wait staff was excellent and really sweet (those who brought out our dishes and refilled water). It's true-the bread pudding is delicious."

  • "Yum. Also, our server was fantastic. Perfect pacing so we didn't feel overwhelmed/interrupted, and also cordial and nice."

  • "I chose Eastern Standard from on-line research because of the vintage cocktails and old world ambience, which were as advertised. But the food was amazing also! Our server provided excellent recommendations and was not snippy if we chose something else. When he learned we were from out of town, he offered recommendations for brunch the next day (which were excellent also). The calamari was some of the best I have had and the butterscotch bread pudding was one of my favorite desserts ever. I would definitely return to hang out at the lovely bar or dine on the covered patio."

  • "My wife and I are on our honeymoon and are so pleased our friend recommended we visit Eastern Standard. The service and attention to detail was a treat. Our server, Mara I think, was superb. She was attentive and knowledgeable, but gave us space to enjoy our special evening. Wonderful ambience and location, a must visit restaurant!"

  • "I recently dined at Eastern Standard and was blown away. The food was fresh and delicious. I was especially impressed by the Nicoise salad and the Faroe Island salmon dish. We also enjoyed excellent service from all the staff, especially from our waiter Damon. He was efficient, knowledgeable, professional and had a great sense of humor. My wife and I and a friend were celebrating and Eastern Standard turned out to be the ideal place for such an occasion. We will be back!"

  • "If you want to eat before or after a Red Sox game or any evening this is one of the best places to go. Very lively and always busy. Reservations are highly recommended. Food is good and reasonably priced. One can even get a grilled cheese sandwich with fries if that is all you are in the mood for. Good cold seafood appetizers. Service staff is very friendly but one needs to remind hostess of reservation time even after checking in on busy evenings. Among my more favored restaurants when in the Boston area."

  • "Top shelf service, top shelf food, top shelf drink. Not a spot for culinary highwire acts of the molecular sort, just really good food done really well by people who enjoy what they do. I always enjoy this place."

  • "Right in Kenmore Square, the options for an upscale sit down lunch are pretty limited, so Eastern Standard has pretty much cornered the market. It's very busy most days with tourists, guests staying at the Commonwealth Hotel, and faculty and staff from BU, which is just up the street. Happily, ES does deliver and produces well turned out lunches from a broad bistro style menu. The service quality is very high as well, and the prices, acceptable."

  • "My second time dining at Eastern Standard and the only thing I didn't like was the skin on my trout (probably a personal thing) and the accompanying carrots. Great wine list, superb cocktails, including my favorite Sazerac. The server mentioned they take great pride in their mixed drinks and I could tell. Sitting outside on a Sunday night I felt like I was back on the Champs-Elysees in Paris. Close to Fenway Park and Kenmore subway stop all the more reason to come here every time I'm in town. When I walked by that morning the restaurant was packed for Father's Day brunch. One of my favorites places in the country for food, drinks and atmosphere."

  • "Loved the casual feeling and friendliness. Panini was excellent and my friends had eggs and quiche that they really enjoyed. It was a birthday celebration and hostess and server were very discreet in bringing dessert with a candle and Happy Birthday written on the plate with chocolate! Everything was served in a timely fashion and we made it to the Red Sox game in plenty of time! Would definitely go back for lunch or dinner!"

  • "A nice, flexible option. Could do for special occasion, could do for late lunch, or morning after brunch. The menu provides a range of options from light to elaborate, a way for every member of a mixed party to have a good time. The outdoor space unusually nice for Boston. Many of the dishes are inventive and well-executed."

  • "Eastern Standard was our choice to celebrate our 52nd Anniversary, just the two of us. The Ambience was just right. Reminded us of other Fun restaurants we have enjoyed in New York City , Santa Monica, Chicago and France. The food was terrific, the champagne just right. The waiter very nice but the service Oh So Slow. And it was a quiet Sunday night! We waited 25 minutes between champagne and meal and then another 25 minutes between meal and dessert. Now, the strawberry shortcake DID have freshly made shortcake, which was delicious, so it made the wait understandable. We will certainly go back. Just knowing that it will be a lengthy meal."
