I can always count on Eastern Standard for an unforgettable experience. I went on Sunday to celebrate a birthday and our dinner experience was even better than I expected. The manager Chris took the time to recommend us cocktails and then later spent some time with us helping us pick a wine that was unbelievable. Damon was our server and took really good care of us. There was a pretty good amount of people there for a Sunday night, but he made us feel like we were his only table. The entire time we felt totally unrushed, and were able to enjoy probably the best dinner experience I'ce ever had. Also, if you have never had the rib eye steak, you need to. Ours were cooked to perfection. Bread pudding was fantastic!

My girl and I wanted to have a special night out and we've always been curious about dinner at Eastern Standard. When they called me to confirm the reservation I mentioned it was our date night and they immediately asked if I wanted something special. I asked for champagne and my girl was super happy and surprised when we got to our table! That worked out really well. The food was good and, although it was busy, the atmosphere was great and definitely not too noisy. The service was excellent! We had a great night!

For such a well-regarded, and well-placed, restaurant, the menu is extremely limited. Eight entrees, four sandwiches (including a $9 grilled cheese). I expected so much more. The fois gras mousse is very good, though they skimp on the baguettes (you'll have to ask for more, they only give you six). I went with a Cuban sandwich, which was okay (was there mustard? I don't know). Two Cuban sandwiches, the appetizer, and a couple of drinks amounted to a C-note.

After paying $18 for valet parking, I had to wait over an hour to retrieve my car from the valet. The waiter clearly did not notify the valet that I wanted my car and the car was pulled up at the adjacent hotel well down without my being notified. The food was ordinary with the exception of the hangar steak which was so tough that neither the steak knife nor my teeth could penetrate the pieces. The special Monday pork cutlet was ample, but tasteless. The service was slow and smug. And the noise level made it difficult to hear ones companions.

The ambiance is nice and the beer list impressive but the food is not noteworthy. Of the 4 dinner entrees ordered at our table 2 were heavily salted and a margarita was so sour it was sent back. Service was good.

Whole experience was solid, not spectacular. Prices reasonable for Back Bay. Good beer list. Food was average. I had Flatiron steak and partner had Crab cake, both tasted fine, no real complaints, but again not spectacular. Could get similar food at many regional restaurants.

  • Great food as usual at ES
    OpenTable Diner Since 2007VIP
    Dined on 9/1/2014
Always enjoy ES and snagging a last minute table outside on a wonderfully warm evening made it even better. Food is always reliably good, as were the creative cocktails. Pleasant young lady nicely looked after us after the young man that neglected to order our salad ignored us for the rest of the night. Service clearly not his metier. But that was an anomaly at - ES normally has consistently good service without an attitude.

...or at least that's what they told me when I called in the evening before labor day to make sure it would be available early the next day. I don't know if they were just saying that or if what I got was their real brunch. Either way, I was not impressed with the meager ~4 dishes that weren't amazing and over-priced for the quality. On the plus side, their clams were great. I probably wouldn't return for breakfast.

First time here. The Steak Tartar is fantastic and the menu took off from there. The hanger steak was only ok and we expected more but otherwise we got there late and the food was yummy overall and inventive. The salad dressing was fabulous and the ribeye very well executed. Great selection of wines and beer. Always a struggle to find great food late at night and Eastern Standard delivered.

We have been at Eastern Standard many times before. This time we were very disappointed. Although the service was good, it was noisy, the music and the ambience were pitched to twenty-something-year-olds, and the food was not very good. The broccoli is grilled: this isn't a good way to prepare broccoli. The rigatoni dish my wife had was flavorless, just a festival of carbs and cheese with some peas thrown in for color.

My boyfriend and I booked this place for our 6 month celebration and it was absolutely perfect! The servers were notified of our special occasion and went above and beyond for us. Mara, our server, brought us a champagne toast to accompany our appetizer. She was knowledgeable of everything on the menu and was able to recommend dishes and wine for each of us. Went here for a belated birthday lunch with a friend. It was amazing. From the kind woman I called to let her know we were running late, to our sever, to the smiling faces at the door everyone was lovely. We couldn't decide between starting with charcuterie or streak tartare so our server had a small tartare added to our charcuterie board. So sweet! The waitress suggested a cocktail that was EXACTLY what my friend wanted and she was very attentive without being clingy. The charcuterie was amazing, and a great value! The flat iron streak was pretty good for an OK cut of meat (maybe a bit pepper heavy) and the breaded chicken salad was perfectly spiced making what seamed like an ordinary dish extraordinary. Can't wait to come back!!!

First, we loved the bar -- very lively, and excellent cocktails. The food was disappointing. A bit overpriced to start. More important, it seemed like each dish had one or two more ingredients than necessary. The pork chop, for example, while a good cut, tasted too much like smoke and seasoning. the flavor of the pork lost out. The trout's flavor was similarly overwhelmed with seasoning.

I made our reservations a week in advance for a weeknight at 7:15. The Sox were in town. We expected to valet the car. We were in an accident on the way in. Not our fault and the car was still drivable so we continued. We were looking forward to a night in Boston. I was unaware you needed to make a reservation for the valet. We were told they had no room for our car. 10 minutes later they made an exception. We were seated outside. For appetizers we had calamari. It was the best I've ever had. I had the standard burger. It comes with fries and both were amazing. My boyfriend had steak. We ordered the macaroni and cheese and carrots as a side. From start to finish everything was wonderful. I highly recommend the drink called Floradora.

Whenever I have tickets to a Red Sox home game, love to hit this spot pre and post-game. Lively Bistro-esque atmosphere, peppy music, yuppies and dyed-in-the-wool Bostonians mile with tourists and college kids alike. Great food. Husband and I shared a perfectly cooked steak, with light béarnaise, LOVE their rendition of an upscale Romaine wedge salad, and the onion dip and chips was a yummy appetizer. Never have had a bad meal, although during high traffic times (like baseball games) don't expect waiters to hover over you - its a busy and crowded spot - for a good reason.
