  • "Must be able to climb the stairs but worth it. Our group enjoyed the Risotto, Scottish Salmon and Lobster Roll! The calamari appetizer was great, along with the sides of honey drenched corn bread, mac and cheese, & cole slaw."

  • "Brunch is a hot commodity in Portland and East Ender has a lot going for it - the food is great, good location, great staff, and they take reservations! Their brunch menu has some good classics (a 2 egg with meat and toast breakfast, a benedict, etc), and some great innovations (the johnny cakes with pulled pork and eggs, the chicken and waffles, the hash) are very good. Next time, I want to check out their doughnut and pop tart specials!"

  • "I've been to the East Ender a couple of times now and it is becoming one of my favorite spots. The wait staff is friendly and knowledgeable and the food is fantastic. The lower and upper dining rooms each have their own distinct ambiance with the upstairs being slightly more formal (but not stuffy)."

  • "My husband and I went to the East Ender last Saturday, and enjoyed a tasty, imaginative meal and excellent service. Even though it's been around for a couple of years, we hadn't been there before. There are bars and table upstairs and downstairs. We sat upstairs in a booth by the window. Our waitress knew the accessibly-priced wine list very well and was able to make good recommendations. Though a big group was dining at the same time, the service was attentive and our dinners were not delayed. I had the arugula and beet salad with a side of cheesy cauliflower; my husband had the skirt steak, which came with shoestring fries and collards. It was all great - an imaginative and well-prepared take on 'home cooking'."

  • "My son and I were in Portland Friday night and I had made a reservation at East Ender. We were given an excellent booth on the second floor by the window. It was a great place to sit. The wine list and the mixed drink list was nice. I enjoyed my Pinot Noir. My son had the James Bond cocktail which he liked very much. We decided to order first course and hold off on ordering everything else. This was smart because the lobster nacho platter was huge and filling. We shared that and an arugula salad. The lobster nachos were so good. There was lots of lobster and avocado. Homemade chips too. yum. I had another glass of wine. But that was it. I think they should add gelato to the desert menu. "

  • "Dinner was excellent. Had the potato encrusted fish and the gumbo and both were really good. Oh, the broccoli fritters were outstanding. Portions were good and the price was right for dinner for two.....around $60"

  • "Great drink list, varied menu that has options for everyone - can eat tapas like or get a dinner - fried bologna sandwich was very gd but so was arugula beet salad! "

  • "I was at the East Ender for a weekday lunch recently. On the plus side, the atmosphere was pleasantly informal and the food (I had the mac & cheese) was good. On the minus, the interior space is very small, and it is impossible to have a private conversation over a meal. The prices are higher than I would have expected based on the simple pub-style menu, the no-frills presentation, and the kitchen-table ambience of the dining area. Also, on the day I was there the lone server covering lunch seemed harried. With the variety of lunch options available at a wide range of price points on the Portland peninsula, I suspect the East Ender will have to find a way to sharpen its focus and improve its game in order to compete."

  • "Both dinner and lunch another day. The same server both times, Sandy I think. What’s with Portland and so few servers to tables? But East ender, the two levels, they never stopped. I bet whatever they are paid it isn’t enough. Food tasty, dinner, I came here from Ireland 20 years ago, I can’t adjust to raw meat, but I compromise with medium well, the hanger steak was seared but raw inside. Had to have it cooked more. Desert, caramel tart was tasteless. But lots of places fall down on desert. Lunch I had the burger because my wife had that for dinner and it was great, I heard the server mention the previous steak to the chef and my burger was certainly cooked. My wife had the sliders. I’d call it a good gastro pub, we will be back. "

  • "Dined upstairs very steep staircase could not have taken grandmother. Downstairs dining area is small. Good for group of 4 maximum 6. Noise became louder with full room. No parking so we used ocean garage which does not use cash must have card of some kind. Parking on streets was full at 7pm. Waitress was quick did not have to wait long at all for foods and drinks."

  • "The food was fantastic and the service was great. The restaurant décor was a little casual given the price range, but overall it was a great place to dine."

  • "Lots of great options here! The East Ender shows creativity in their menu options... everything from the specialty drinks and appetizers to the salads and entrees is prepared with a slight twist. The results are delicious! You will not be disappointed. Great service. The waitress was very knowledgeable and attentive. I will definitely come back!"

  • "I'd highly recommend thus restaurant. We had trout fritters and their salmon dish which was cooked perfectly. Also gad cheesy cauliflower and Brussel sprouts. All food was thumbs up! We had a 6:00 reservation and it was quiet but by 7:00 all tables were full and the place was hoppin."

  • "The last few times we went here we really really wanted to enjoy it but did not. Lets start with drinks. They have a great drinks list so why was my margarita from a mix? It was even frothy from the shaking. Ordered nachos as appetizer, then 10 minutes later ordered pork sliders and a salad as our dinner. Even said "We will have nachos as appetizer". All food came out at once. Sliders did not have cheese. Buns were stale. Polyester napkins were the deal breaker. Will not come back."

  • "My boyfriend and I ate here when visiting Portland for the first time over Valentines Day/President's Day weekend. I booked the reservation a few days before for 9:30 because we got in late from the train, and we were seated immediately. Despite our late reservation, the restaurant was packed when we came in. We had the Lobster Nachos and we both got the main steak dish. They were both absolutely delicious and hit the spot for two weary travelers. Our server was great - she talked through all the beers they had with us and checked in often (but not too often) to make sure we were doing alright. She offered a lot of insight into the menu, helping us make main course and dessert decisions. I would highly recommend East Ender!"

  • "My husband and I made reservations for Valentine's day, we had heard great things about the East Ender! We weren't looking for an over the top extravagant fancy dinner, just somewhere the two if could relax with some drinks and yummy food! We found it! We shared a few of the smaller plates and it worked out great, we got to try different things! We did the Mac n' Cheese, Steak Sliders, Broccoli Fritters and fries! It was perfect! We ended our meal with the carrot cake which was delicious! Server was friendly and attentive, so all in all, we celebrated Valentine's Day just the way we wanted!"

  • "Went here on a Monday night. The food was solid, their nachos and lobster poutine were amazing while their calamari was nothing special, also had an above average burger, but not good enough to make me want to come back for it. We had a mixed bag of drinks, they had a tasty cider, their rickey was good, but then I had a ginger beer drink that tasted like you were chewing straight ginger. Ambience was good too, small and cozy, but the place was empty on a Monday night, would be interested to see what its like on a Friday or Saturday, I could see it getting crowded and loud. Our waiter was fine, took orders and brought us drinks in a timely manner and checked in frequently enough, but overall was forgettable."

  • "We had a delicious dinner and our service was excellent. They didn't rush us and offered good advice on food. It's a comfortable ambiance. The main dining room is upstairs though, so if you're not good with stairs, ask to be seated downstairs in your reservation."

  • "Chose the East Ender for dinner prior to attending a performance at Merrill Auditorium. Parking can be an issue, especially in winter but we located a spot in front on the street. A beautiful old building awaited us. We climbed the steep stairs to the dining room and it is worth it! Comfortable, relatively quiet, and attractive. Waitress was very helpful, taking the time to explain menu items as this was our first visit. Choices range from sliders to hanger steak and include enough options to please most. Great local beer choices! Food was very good and the 3 of us decided we won't wait so long to return!"

  • "Had a great dinner for my boyfriends birthday. Our server was Grace, she was also training a new server (forgot her name) we had great service and as always, a great meal. This is our go to spot for date nights and special occasions."

  • "We came for one of my friend's birthdays for a light fare and happy hour. They had a nice selection for wine and cocktails. I was always impressed with the East Ender and their food display for a large party I attended a couple week backs. The staff is very friendly and down to earth. The infused vodka cocktails are also delightful. Their food menu is unique but delicious"

  • "We went to east ender on a nite that was -26 wind chill. They were going to close early, but they stayed open for my wife & I. Food was fun and good. Brussels sprouts were great as were fritters. Food fresh and not over seasoned. Good beer an d wine lists. It was worth the cold walk."

  • "I took my staff here for a holiday dinner. They always go to the same places and LOVED everything about Eastender! However our server was less than desirable.Apparently is a bartender who also waits tables and had no personality. Loved that the wines were half price on this day and did not know until we arrived. Our 1st wine was a Chardonnay named "butter" and was fantastic. ($36) The 2nd was a french Chardonnay which I thought was listed as $20 before discount. It was too sweet and none of us really liked it and told the server. Then the bill came and it was a $50 bottle and at half price it was still $25. I was horrified and asked the waiter and he said "you never know and sometimes that more expensive bottle just is not as good"."

  • "My son, wife, and I went to this restaurant last Friday night. It was our first visit and will not be our last. They have a great selection of craft beers and we helped ourselves. We had crab cakes to start which were very good. My wife ordered a salad and a pepperoni pizza and I ordered a pizza with squash and cheese. My son had a club sandwich of some sort, I think and he loved it. The pizza is not that good and I would avoid it. I think the next time we will have a sandwich. I love the location (used to be Norm's) and the ambience is nice."

  • "The food at the East Ender is always fantastic. On the last visit we had the trout fritters and the egg salad sliders. Both were great. The ambience is perfect for a casual meal with friends or your sweetheart. The downstiars is small and cozy. A couple tables are not much more than coffee tables with some comfy chairs around them. The fireplace is a welcome treat on a cold snowy winter day. This is a must try for any first time Portland visitors. This place is part of why Portland is known as a restaurant mecca."

  • "A great dinner for girls night out. We split some appetizers (make sure you try the deviled eggs!), a salad, and each had our own entree. The diver scallops were to die for and the Surf and Turf burger lived up to its reputation."

  • "This restaurant did a good job handling our large party of 14. They ran out of two min items at 6:15 on a Saturday night, not a good sign. Food was okay, great deal of deep fried food, Asian, and just seemed like a mismatched menu. Lobster Poutine was good."

  • "Have previously had exceptional meals (pulled pork entree) however this time everything was incredibly salty to the point that the braised short rib was in edible."

  • "The food is good and dependable as well as the service. A good place to go with friends who want a variety of food options for $ to $$$. A bit loud and a little on the chilly side."
