East Coast Grill brings high level big, bold flavors with live fire grilled seafood and Low & Slow BBQ in a fun casual atmosphere. Highlighted by its open kitchen, full raw bar and funky décor; it remains a corner stone of the Greater Boston after 25 years!! The theory here is that the closer one gets to the equator, the more flavor there is in the food. Expect the chile-fueled heat of the Caribbean, the grill-savvy of Latin American cuisine, and the dynamism of Asia when you order from the regionally inspired menu. Our Brunch Bloody Mary bar has garnered quite the following of hard-core Bloody Mary enthusiasts. Drop by for Brunch (Sundays), Lunch (Saturdays), Dinner 7 days a week or for our late-nite snacks, raw bar and cocktails (Thursday through Saturday starting October 17th).Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We had not been to the East Coast Grill in about 2 years--everything was great. The food was terrific, but the service was unbelievable. Cambridge has a reputation for unfriendly wait staff, but everyone, from the host to the waiter to the bus people, was incredibly nice, friendly and acted like they were really appreciative that we were eating there. Great experience."

  • "We were three adults and a 7 month old. The staff was very friendly and made us feel welcome. My mahi mahi was solid and my wife's shrimp and grits was outstanding."

  • "Took my team to this wonderful place with a simple menu and tasty food! Buffalo shrimp are the best I've ever had!"

  • "The staff is really helpful. Good drink menu. The food is good and they serve lots of different foodie things. I tried the tuna/pork dumplings, yum and then I had the firey shrimp and sweet potato dish. Very good. It's a little cramped but being in Cambridge you have to expect that. Be sure to make a reservation if going on the weekend. We went early, 6:15 on a Saturday night and it was packed full."

  • "I enjoy this restaurant, and the food is good. The ambiance is very casual and there is good service. But I have to give it 3 stars, because the ambiance, presentation of food just doesn't live up to it's prices. It is as pricey, if not, more expensive than various amazing restaurants in it's surroundings. I've been here twice hoping for something better the second time around, and I got a good meal and good service, but just not worth the price! I'll take the money I would spend here and go out somewhere fantastic. I would definitely visit this place more if the prices dropped to what I consider it is worth."

  • "Very good food, but very very loud. Waiters yell across restaurant to kitchen a lot."

  • "After hearing lots of hype I wanted to try ECG. The first booth we were seated in the benches were so close to the table that it was very uncomfortable, and anyone with a belly or pregnant would not have fit. They were kind enough to move us to a another table that had chairs and more space, in the lower section. The restaurant was incredibly loud so conversation between 5 of us was difficult. The food was fine, nothing remarkable. The limited menu does not have much that my daughter (14) liked. I'm glad I went but no need to go back."

  • "The food was, as always, consistently good. My husband had a salad and tuna. I had the clam/corn chowder and shrimp and grits. All was well cooked and tasted great. The service left much to be desired on this visit. We sat for 30 minutes with a number of servers passing us by before I finally stopped someone and asked if we could place a drink order! After that, things improved considerably service-wise."

  • "I cannot remember how long we have been eating at the East Coast Grille, but it is a long time. Food is always first rate, service is terrific, and the atmosphere always makes a visit fun."

  • "Food was excellent, service friendly. Unusual combinations. Scallops wonderful, but I was tempted to get BBQ. Fun to watch kitchen, which is open to one side of restaurant."

  • "One of the best barbecue places I've ever been to, and I've been to a lot all over the country. Funny to find it in Boston, but there it is."

  • "We ordered the special from daily catch - fried whole flounder - which was excellent. We didn't order BBQ but they looked and smelled great."

  • "I had heard so many good things about this restaurant, but my whole family was disappointed. Although the service was excellent, the food just didn't measure up and was over-priced. A few items where very good, such as the Asian snow peas starter, but the rest was just so-so. It was also extremely loud and almost claustrophobic in the restaurant, as we all felt jimmied into our tables. With so many other great restaurants around, we'll be giving this one a miss."

  • "Rushed, 7 crowded into booth. Manager/host was very nice and treated one of us to chowder and a drink after forgetting her order. Waiter was rushed and forgot several things. For its rep, I was so underwhelmed with the food.So disappointed with our experience as I've always wanted to go. We were in and out in 60 minutes!"

  • "Was really excited to finally check out brunch at East Coast Grill after hearing so many good things about it. Experience was mediocre. Not only was the restaurant too loud to really have conversations with anyone not sitting immediately next to you, but the food didn't impress. The grits in the shrimp & grits had no flavor, the tacos were just ok, and the breakfast platter didn't have anything with much punch. The beans served with the rice resembled magic shell (the chocolate topping for ice cream), and had seasoning. It's still a fun place, and I know the specials at brunch are usually much more appetizing than they were we were there. Maybe we'll have to try again, but it won't be soon."

  • "Fabulous seafood. My boyfriend and I went here for Valentine's Day and it was great! We were looking for a more low-key, casual, fun place and East Coast was perfect. The staff there are relaxed but you can tell they love their food. There was the option to send a 6-pack to the kitchen crew, which when that occured, the kitchen would erupt in cheers. It just made the atmosphere of the restaurant much more connected, whereas most restaurant customers hardly interact with the cooks. Food: we stuck to seafood and it was DELICIOUS. 1/2 grilled lobster with some crazy spicy barbeque-ish marmalade, mussels swimming in an Indian curry based broth with mangoes, whole fried red snapper with salsa verde, halibut with japanese influences."

  • "I went to Valentines dinner however we didnt know it was Pre-fix menu. So we didnt eat we went elsewhere. I have eaten here other times and it was good I was just a little perturbed by noone letting me know that"

  • "Went for Valentine's Day and they had a nice range of options on their prix fixe menu with seafood and meat options. Had a very good broiled snapper and sirloin steak with guacamole. Our server Brenda was the best, and recommended the best wine pairings for our particular dishes. Would highly recommend!"

  • "My wife and I ate at East Coast Grill for the first time last Saturday evening. She had a salad and two ribs and I had the pulled pork platter. The pork was perfectly cooked, obviously pulled and not shredded like some places. My wife liked her ribs. When I ordered my meal I asked for no beans and no slaw and asked for mashed potatoes instead. I also asked specifically for one of the sauces on the side. When my dinner came it had mashed, but was loaded with beans. Also, the waiter failed to serve the requested sauce. I was starving and tight on time and chose not to send my meal back and the waiter brought the sauce upon 2nd request. Then toward the end of dinner my wife ordered a margerita that was never served."

  • "We took our son and four of his friends to East Coast Grill this past Saturday to celebrate his 16th birthday. The food was AMAZING - I had the roasted brussels sprouts, fried sweet plantains and tuna taco, all scrumptious - and the boys enjoyed their big plates of barbecue. It was fun, casual, and enjoyable."

  • "Not the same place as under Schlesinger even though the interior and menu are exactly the same (and thereby quite dated!). The prices are high, the portions are large, and EVERYTHING was so salty as to be at least unpleasant and in some cases in edible. They didn't have the oysters on the blackboard at the front door. The place was less than half full at prime time on a Wednesday night (nobody at the bar - probably due to the likes of the lame cocktails and sangria we were served). I won't be back again."

  • "Party of 11,they sat the early arrivals, which is unusual for restaurants. The waitress spilled a drink on uncle Andrew. No big deal, super nice about it, got lots of freebies. I tried every ones apps and meals. All outstanding."

  • "It took awhile for us to get our food, the waitress did let us know and gave us more pickles however. The tuna tacos were great, but the tuna meal was just so-so."

  • "Our food was very good...the waiter was new and it was clear that he was doing "on the job training." Luckily some of the experienced staff filled in some of the gaps. We love that you can make weekend reservations on Open Table now. We had stopped coming because the Saturday night waits were too much. So glad we now can go to one of our favorite restaurants and get seated right away."

  • "We had a terrible experience at this restaurant. We hadn't been here in years and had fond memories. When we arrived we had to wait longer than anticipated. Once we did sit down and the meal came, two entrees were so salty they could not be eaten. Someone got ribs and they were extremely tough as was the tuna. The tuna was so tough that it could barely be cut. The other two meals were fine, but nothing special. The management was very attentive and did their best to remedy the situation, but the night was somewhat ruined by that point."

  • "East Coast Grill is great - we went with a larger group of friends and it was fun. The food is good, the drinks are good and people there seem like they are in a good mood. Their tuna tacos and shrimp and grits are worth going back for regularly!"

  • "I needed a place that a cross-section of my family would love, as we were doing a going-away dinner for a relative who was here for the holidays. There were 6 of us and we ranged in age from early teens to 50s. Everybody loved it. The staff is always amazingly charming and warm in a genuine way, not in a forced way--but they are not obtrusive or intrusive. They are also really good at recommending things off the menu when folks have questions. Generally I love the vibe here because it always brightens up mine. And every time I bring someone they promise to come again (in this case everyone wants to be back for Bob Marley Bday day)"

  • "We sat near the kitchen - loud and fun. Food was unique and very tasty, scallop dish was delicious. No subtle flavors here. Large portions, very fairly priced. Service was excellent. Carrot, ginger soup a total taste delight. Would reccommend and would come again!"

  • "Food was well prepared and top quality. The management and wait staff were very attentive and friendly. Will definitely consider going there again as the food tasted great and was a good value for the price. Casual dress code and very relaxed ambience. The tables weren't too close together, either, which was nice even though the restaurant was very busy."

  • "We have been celebrating family birthdays at ECG since the 1980's. We lived in the 'burbs when we began, on the Waterfront in the middle years, and a long way off now. We keep coming back. Sunday, we celebrated my wife's birthday in the same booth where we celebrated our son's birthday in 1989. We were concerned about change since Chris left, but the menu was familiar and the execution generally excellent. Our server, Robert, was fantastic . He was informative, helpful with suggestions, and good humored. The skirt portion of my ribs was dry. Everything else was excellent. Maybe we won't wait for another birthday!"
