East by SouthwestTop Sushi of the WestI know, I know....great sushi in Colorado!!!....and Durango !!!!. Believe it. Blew is away and we are foodies, from San Diego who eat Sushi,all up and down both coasts. SOOO good. OK examples......Saki wine from Orgeon by the bottle, (real size bottles), for reasonable $$ and good. Great decor ans service but loud...hardscape I presume....but the fish is FRESH. Must have the Handgrenade....order many!!!. Sashimi choices are fantastic...Belly Salmon, Amberjack are my favorites. We dined and then came back 2 nights later. Wish they were in San Diego!! They put us at the best table where I could set my baby bag next to me and the car seat and easily pulled him out and put him back in. It was a really nice booth table. The service was great, as always and the food is incredible. Great appetizers, main courses and desserts all served with a nice presentation. Staff was friendly and very efficient without being overly obtrusive. Good value for the money. All seating is a bit close to other tables and noise levels during peak times require either leaning close (not a bad thing on a date) or speaking a bit loudly but there is also little chance of being overheard. Hard to believe located in land-locked Colorado but I have yet to find better sushi on either coast and some abroad locations. The restaurant is so popular for dinner on and around the weekend that service really suffers as every table is full all night regardless. Wait is typically only 30-45 min or so around dinner and lunch is fairly slow with lots of open tables. Price is not cheap but also not outrageous based on food quality. The Service is hit or miss. We were told by the waitress to let her know when we were ready to order, it was really hard to get her attention after that. Once our food was ordered it came quickly. We were treating a couple who frequently dines there. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our friends recommendations for appetizers and the amazing entrees.
