Best meal we’ve had in a long time. Delicious and beautiful presentation of dishes veal cheeks with polenta, lobster risotto and scallop appetizer with white truffles. Their white truffle menu, although expensive as white truffles usually go, are more reasonably priced than most, and only a seasoned Italian chef like in this restaurant you see a master at cooking truffle dishes. We felt like we were dining in a fancy place Uptown. It’s still a lovely Downtown setting, nice marble bar and ambiance. Knowledgeable and friendly waitstaff. Our waitress brought us sweets with our espressos since we were full and didn't order dessert. Thoughtful touches like this makes a place special. We’ll be back.

The service was incredibly slow the entire evening. We were there at 6:30pm and there was only one other table. It took 30 minutes to get an initial drink. In general everything was slow. There were too many specials with too much explanation so ordering was challenging. Did not realize that there was not a full service bar- just wine and beer. Food was good, but pricey.

I was very disappointed in our overall experience. This was my second visit, the first being much better. Our server recited the special items in an unintelligible monotone. Although pleasant, she did not have a handle on fine dining service. At the end of our meal she informed us rather abruptly that we had to leave as quickly as possible because they had booked the table. It was my Birthday and we were not even offered coffee or dessert. The icing on the cake was the owner herself approaching our table and rudely pushing us out. I told her that the server had already informed us. The owner could have expedited the process if she had helped her staff by running the credit cards herself because we sat there for another 15 minutes.

I was looking for a place to meet a friend on a Sunday evening in the East Village and took a chance on the East 12th Osteria. Although small, the room was comfortable and the service could not have been better. The menu is extensive -- especially the off-menu choices carefully recited by our waiter -- and it was hard to make a decision. My companion and I both stopped in mid-conversation after we started our appetizers. The mains were just superb. I'm dying to go back.

or maybe the internet review system has really corrupted any public review of anything. This restaurant had all the trappings of being an excellent Italian dining experience but served pretty, but not very tasteful food. Was this not the regular chef? I did see the owner of Bar Pitti in here so that was certainly a sign of respect, but for the four of us the food was unexceptional. And the service, though not very busy, was incredibly slow.

Went on a busy Sat night at 7:15. Had tix for show at 9:00 & figured we'd be good on time. Pre-dinner drink took 20 mins, but then things picked up. Chef's amuse bouche (watercress soup w creme fraiche) was lovely. Prosciutto & burrata app was good, but too cold, obscuring some flavor. Grilled octopus was tender over shaved veg in vinaigrette, but octopus was a little flavorless. Squash Agnolotti 2nd course was outstanding. By now running tight on time, and we alerted staff. They graciously expedited our entrees -- a very nice grilled salmon and perfectly cooked lamb chops -- and we made our show. Be advised, inside is exposed brick walls, tables are close and sound level is very high. Not a place for intimate conversation.

We dined there Friday night for our friend's landmark 60th birthday. An elegant yet relaxed dining room fit for a happy celebration. Service was at our beck and call. Food was light, delicious pops of flavor. We had an appetizer of deep friend zucchini blossoms stuffed with ricotta. Heaven. Highly recommend. One pasta called "broken" pasta and a green pasta. Yummy. Then duck two ways, filet of sole, and a veal dish. All were good. Wish we had room for dessert. Will return for another special occasion.

This was my 2nd experience at East 12th Osteria. Both times I was visiting NYC from New Orleans. The first experience was all around impeccable. Unfortunately, I cannot say that for this visit. While the food was excellent and the menu creative, the service was less than stellar and quite frankly, disappointing. Our waiter was less than attentive, always seeming to avoid our table. A single glass of wine order took over 10 minutes to be delivered. The main course took over an hour to be served. I suppose this was due to the fact that there was only 1 waiter on duty that evening. A restaurant of this caliber needs to do better.

Restaurant was to quiet for the excellent food that was served. Dishes were delicious and interesting. I think the restaurant's price point is too high for this neighborhood. But I would definitely recommend it to friends, and you all should go there. The menu, with so many things I wanted to eat is accompanied by a serious fantastic wine list. We chose a wine from the Bolgherie region in Italy that we visited not long ago, it did not dissapoint. Our waiter was super friendly, attentive an knowledgable about the food. Ambiance was ok. Low key, East Village style-- highly reccomend this place.

It was an absolute pleasure to have dined at east 12th Osteria! Our server was on point to a T, very knowledgable & friendly staff. The food is out of this world, divine! We started with the crispy zucchini filled with fresh ricotta, my friend ordered the lobster risotto which she loved & I had ordered the most delicious ravioli I have ever experienced in my life which is filled with ricotta & a quail egg topped with truffle. Everything cooked to perfection! The prices are crazy cheap for the quality of the food. Worth every penny PLUS your life savings account. Oh and did I mention everything is prepared from scratch?? Osteria I love you dearly!! And if I'm lucky I'll be back several times until I move elsewhere.

Food was excellent, beautiful presentation and refined. This place is not for everyone, it's not a "neighborhood restaurant," far from being a local joint. One must have a sophisticated palate to appreciate what this restaurant offers. It really is a chef-driven restaurant, with an amazing list of specials. Tagllioni with langoustine and truffles, Veal Cheeks, Duck Two Ways and Tagliata d'Manzo steak were simply delicious. Outstanding and well priced wine list, they decanted our wine. Very attractive staff, who were helpful and knowledgeable about the food. Lovely dining room. We've been several times (weeknights are best, when it's less crowded and noisy). After our first dinner here, we just can't go to another Italian restaurant.

The fabulous and inventive menu proves the chops of this kitchen. The nightly specials and off menu items are always imaginative and delicious. Try the ravioli with quail egg inside, cooked to unctuous perfection, sprinkled with truffle. Melts in your mouth. Seafood is always cooked simply, and to perfection in the Italian manner. The accompaniments to each dish amplify the flavor experience and are obviously chosen with a knowing palate. We have eaten here several times and will come back again.

Our experience was not typical, because the restaurant was virtually empty on the night of our visit, thus the "quiet" rating. I have been there when it was busy and you can't hear yourself think. As always, the level of preparation was fine, but this time, I was struck by the somewhat meager portion sizes. Perhaps they think that you will order all courses: the starter, the pasta, the main, and the dessert, but my guests opted for pasta in place of the main, and what they got was quite modest. Frankly, I feel that the place is too costly for what they serve.

My dining companion and I both had fish dishes which were cooked to perfection and had lovely presentations.
