A word from Earth at Hidden Pond
A collaboration with James Beard Award-winner and Boston restaurateur Ken Oringer, Earth promises an unforgettable dining experience that will leave you yearning for more. Nestled amongst balsam trees and birch forest, Earth is the result of a vision—one that embraces community and supports relationships between the world of outstanding cuisine and the farmers and foragers who provide the tools with which we compose incredible fare. Simple yet innovative, Earth"s menu focuses on "farm to fork" freshness. In addition to local meats and seafood, ingredients are used from one of two onsite organic gardens—picked daily and incorporated into each dish to enhance the many flavors and provide a taste that only fresh ingredients deliver.Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "My girlfriend and I have been to a lot of great restaurants but this has been the best by far. Amazing food and great service. Prices on the higher end but worth it. Wine list provides no good budget option but that's probably not what they're going for. Earth was perfect for celebrating our special occasion."

  • "We were shocked, surprised and thrilled to discover Earth at Hidden Pond. It has the rustic feel of a lodge with the class, ambience and quality of a five star restaurant. The food was incredibly fresh, intriguing and thoughtfully presented. YUM overall!"

  • "We were a group of 6 person from our family when get there . Like the food . A bit expensive an even overprized for some plates . The crab plate as an apetizer was amazing . I would recommanded for sure . A bit noizy even if we were on the patio part part next to the restaurant . And the air conditionned was to cold . The restaurant should take a look at the prizes of their wine list when it's served by glass . 15 $ for a glass for a regular wine ???? But overall ,for the food and the look of the restaurant , the experience was fine ."

  • "The food was excellent our waiter helped pair menu options that worked well together. I have been twice to Earth and find the desserts lacking. They are not as delicate as dinner on the palate. I also found them very dry. We had a pound cake with fresh berries last year and this year tried a chocolate doughnut which was recomended."

  • "Earth has it all. Food. Service. Ambience. We arrived early for a drink. Great cocktails. Romantic, relaxing yet still energetic ambience (but also plenty quiet enough for conversation). The incredible service would alone have made experience memorable but food was absolutely spectacular. Received great recommendations on wine and courses (always curious to hear detailed descriptions to help decide and our server masterfully delivered). We were celebrating anniversary and everyone helped to make it a perfect evening. To cap it off our server recommended we finish our bottle of wine and order dessert on couch by the fire. Absolutely perfect way to end the evening. Thank you for one of our best and most memorable dining experiences."

  • "I have had the pleasure to east at Earth multiple times since it opened. The experience this time was very disappointing at all levels. The foie gras appetizer was burned , and nothing close to resembling seared foie gras. In hindsight, I should have sent the dish back to the kitchen. The seafood paella was a put full of grease. The service was average, but disappointing given the restaurants prices. The waitress brought the wrong glass of wine multiple times. She clearly did not have a good understanding of the menu. Overall, I will have a difficult time making another reservation at this restaurant given the multiple other options in the area."

  • "Disappointing. Tried this restaurant three times so far this year. Very inconsistent. Overly salty twice, poor service twice. I appreciate the use of locally grown foods but the chef is trying to hard. Overly bizarre taste combinations. Wine list has errors and the wines are overpriced."

  • "Outstanding evening! Food and service were just great. We were all greatly looking forward to this evening going to Earth for first time and can't wait to return."

  • "The food was really really great! they took great care of us. I just wished the hostess was better at her job. we arrived a little early and waited for our table for quite sometime to only be seated at a table that had been open the entire time we were waiting. I had to approach podium again and she said sure I can seat you. Not sure what happened."

  • "This is one of the coolest places I have dined at in a long time. It's at Hidden Pond, which is off the beaten path, reached by some pretty windy roads. It's nestled in a cottage resort community, next to the spa. There is outdoor seating around the pool, and a fire pit for enjoying drinks after dinner. The restaurant itself is very rustic-looking, but at the same time you feel like you are in an upscale urban restaurant. The food is far from rustic, however. the restaurant features farm-to-table ingredients, beautifully prepared, plus delicious craft cocktails. Tip: You need to reserve well in advance. But, the outside area is first-come, first served, so you could get lucky if you walk in."

  • "The place has terrible signage, is pretentious and not worth the trip. The lobster at $42 contained about an ounce of meat. The dessert was great."

  • "Great food, fantastic service, special location ... The restaurant is about 7km from Kennebunkport surrounded by forest. The atmosphere is extraordinary, also the food. If you are emphasizing on high quality in food, that's the right choice! We enjoyed a perfect 2 hours dinner"

  • "It's always a pleasure going to Earth! The ride alone is picturesque and shen you arrive the smell is so engaging I wish they could Bottle It! The food and wait staff is excellent. Sometimes the kitchen can run slow. Love taking new people to Earth!"

  • "My wife and I agree that our dinner at Earth was quite possibly our favorite dining experience of all time. The stunning beauty of the restaurant and the grounds was only surpassed by a remarkable menu and attentive and knowledgeable staff. –Overall, a truly transformative experience."

  • "My husband and I chose Earth for our 56th wedding anniversary celebration. Our tradition is to dine at a special restaurant, and we feel Earth fit our criteria. After we were seated, our wait person appeared at our table with complimentary glasses of prosecco - a delightful surprise (information I believe was forwarded from the hotel where we were staying). Our wait person gave us excellent descriptions of the preparation of the items ordered. Loved the tuna poke, and my husband really enjoyed the fried oysters. We both enjoyed the local seafood paella with fresh garden peas. Dessert was spectacular - strawberry rhubarb tart with gooseberries and ice cream on the side - and a celebratory candle as well. It was a wonderful evening."

  • "What a uniquely different experience in Maine! Tucked away in a deeply wooded area accessible only by dirt roads - this restaurant was a huge surprise and a big delight! We were welcomed by the smell of a wood fire and the glow of candlelight from every table in the great room. Service was impeccable, and each course nicely presented. Our cocktails were delicious and the wine list adequate. Service was top-notch and the attention to our vegetarian requests were happily attended. Tempted by the unusual fiddleheads on the menu - one downside to the meal was the over fried presentation of them. The tuna poke would have been better less the syrupy sweetness. Our dinners were delicious. Overall -still an A+ Experience!"

  • "Enjoyed our first dining experience at Earth and had a great time. For apps we had the Maine potatoes, fried fiddleheads, and bake clams which were delicious. We also had the tortellini pasta which was buttery and so flavorful! They were like little pillows! For entrees we enjoyed the lobster, scallops, and seafood paella. Our favorites were definitely the lobster and scallops. Everyone was happy with their beer and wine choices. We also tried the sangria and gimlet cocktails which were yummy! Dessert was also just incredible with the homemade donuts and blondie with lemon curd. Wonderful finish to an already great meal."

  • "We live just over an hour from Earth and will gladly travel for a return visit. Well worth the drive. Oysters were outstanding! Wood fired lobster is a must have! Fried fiddle heads were delightful. Ending with the doughnuts was perfect."

  • "We were guests at Hidden Pond so we definitely had to try it! A glass of wine out on the deck that overlooks the pond provided a great way to relax and take in the beauty of nature. The restaurant decor is very woodsy and warm. We had the grilled lobster and diver scallop dishes. Both were very good. The prices are a bit steep however the experience is worth it."

  • "My husband and I planned a weekend up in Kennebunkport, ME last weekend and we heard Ken Oringer had opened a place up there so last minute, we booked a late Friday night dinner. It was beyond outstanding. From the moment we walked in and smelled the wonderful aroma from fireplace, the off-the-hook decor, the friendly/knowledgeable/cheerful staff and prompt service to the amazing food - we were so not disappointed. The grilled lobster was pure perfection - expertly grilled and not dry or overcooked. I'm already craving it again. I would absolutely return to this restaurant (heck, might even stay at the luxurious resort it's in)!!! Go if you haven't yet!"

  • "Earth at Hidden Pond was a unique venue (who has a tree hanging upside down from the ceiling as a chandelier?!), in a gorgeous setting, that served extraordinary food. The staff was so friendly and helpful, making the menu details accessible in an inclusive fashion, and the kitchen is eager to please. There are even garden sheds that can be reserved for small parties to dine privately. The price was incredibly reasonable, too, for the caliber of the food and drink being served -- I thought our bill had been miscalculated! What a wonderful spot for a special meal! Can't wait to return!"

  • "Food and service was excellent. We live in NJ but Kennebunkport is one of our favorite places to visit. It was our anniversary weekend and Earth was a great choice. We can't wait to come back. ."

  • "I love the concept of Earth, but there is an obvious disconnect between the level of service and style of food. For the prices and level of commitment that the kitchen is obviously taking seriously, the service staff should be stepping up their game. Guiding customers through the menu, knowing the wine list, attitude, and the timing of courses should all be improved. The only complaint we had about the food was size of the full portion of pasta. It was WAY too small (only 6 small bites). Maybe we accidentally received a half portion or the server was annoyed that we were sharing everything. The restaurant seems casual so we thought this was appropriate. Maybe they should consider a prix-fixe menu."

  • "Superb food and well balanced menu altnough I would recommend one fish entree (they had scallops, lobster, and ahi tartare) for the non meat eaters. The music sound track didn't quite fit the settng of the restaurant/location in very rural Maine, 15 minutes outside of Kennebunkport..We felt like we were in a Metro Bar or EXPRESS in NYC or Boston rather than New England rustic charm. "

  • "Earth at Hidden Pond is worth a trip from anywhere. For those who appreciate farm to fork cuisine, this restaurant is a must on your list. Apart from the spectacular dining room and outdoor surroundings, the food is outstanding. Local, fresh, organic and creative, the menu here is perfection. The entire staff was friendly, informative and made us feel welcome, as though we were 'regulars'. Everyone seemed to love their jobs! After Earth's wood-fired lobster, you'll never be able to order lobster in a restaurant again. This is a culinary experience you won't soon forget. We will be back."

  • "We did not find an entree that we liked so we put together an appetizer a pizza and a snack. That was plenty of food. We especially like the pizza with sausage. The loud thumping techno music is not conducive to dinner conversation. We drove into town for ice cream for dessert."

  • "Once we found our new favorite place in Maine - hidden up a dirt driveway - we fell in love. The atmosphere is like you're in a lodge deep in the woods and the food is creative and wonderful. I had a fermented garlic sauce - it was sweet as can be. Who knew????"

  • "This is a rare place where the food, wine, service and atmosphere all come together for a wonderful experience. The dining room strikes the right balance with its rustic elegant decor and a down-to-earth buzz. We had the Burrata with mustard fruit, wood fried clams, local seafood paella and wood fired lobster -- wonderful flavors and perfectly prepared. The lobster presentation was especially unique. Our server was friendly, attentive without being overbearing, and helped us select a nice bottle of wine (Verdejo) to pair with our meal. After dinner, we sipped our dessert wine by the fireplace... a nice finish to a romantic dinner. "

  • "This was our 7th or 8th time visiting Earth and it never fails to meet our expectations. It truly is outstanding on every level. The food was awesome; my partner had a fire roasted lobster that he raved about and it's presentation was picturesque. The service is always attentive but also very knowledgeable about the food and wine list. And you can't beat the ambience. Just a beautiful setting. We will return....."

  • "The best food in the area however it was so loud I couldn't hear my wife half the time. The noise made the experience not good , might have been the bad luck of being next to a large group screaming at each other. Maybe a weekend night is not for a romantic dinner!"
