The atmosphere was cold, very loud. The wait staff consisted of about 5 for the two of us. They huddled and tried too hard to get us to order many courses. The fried green tomatoes had too much mayo on them. My husband's entree of shrimp and grits was too spicy and the sauce was thin. The gelato was barely flavored. They were unable to make a mint julep. The excuse was that they had no mint. In their defense, the coffee was good, the beignets passable

Booked a reservation to have a business dinner with two associates from Paris, France. I have known both of them for many years and they always take me to very fine restaurants when I am in Paris. They were both impressed and complimentary of the choice of E2 and so was I.

  • Emeril's - Missed the Mark

When one dines in an Emeril's restaurant they expecet food to be "over the top"...this restaurant missed the mark. We each had three courses and the majority were an extreme letdown. The mussels were undercooked, lacked flavor and the broth was bland. The fried green tomatoes were bland and the remoulade sauce was definitely not New Orleans!!! The Braised Short Rib was tasty, however, for $28.00, one would expect more then a 2 inch by 2 inch piece of meat. The Double Cut Pork Chop (cooked in 15 minutes???) looked amazing, however, was so overcooked, we needed all of the sweet potato chili hash to be able to swallow. I must state our service was impeccable. Cassandra did an amazing job.

I recently met two friends at e2 for lunch. My friends are from out of state and I live north of Charlotte. This was the first time any of us had been to e2. Our e2 experience was perfect until, as I watched with astonishment, the waiter made it a priority to do a rapid clearing of my friend's entree plate. This was done without regard for the pace of the overall meal for 3 people. Later, despite the unavailability of the 1st choice dessert request, beignets, all three of us shared, and truly enjoyed, one generous serving of the banana cream pie. The only negative part of our e2 experience for me was that the waiters seemed in a rush, both to clear plates and to pick up the payment while we were still enjoying our coffee.

I HOPE THIS IS NOT APPROVED BY EMERIL! THE FOOD WAS SERVED COLD. THE COLLARD GREENS WERE SWEETENED. THE CLAMS WERE SO BAD WE COULD NOT EAT THEM AND SENT THEM BACK. THE ONLY FOOD WE HAD THAT WAS VERY GOOD WAS THE PIZZA APPETIZER. SHOULD BE CALLED EMERIL'S PIZZA PALACE. WE WILL NEVER SEE YOU THERE

In an almost empty restaurant, we were offered seating near the service section. When we declined that table, we were seated behind a small wall near the wine cooler which had a constant hum. Our server was entertaining and accommodating and the food was good. This restaurant was chosen for its convenience to the art museum. I was surprised that there weren't more people there on a Friday night, perhaps because there are so many superior restaurants in uptown Charlotte.

Overall a very fine evening. Service was outstanding and the food was well prepared and hot. We would like to see a few more menu items and some more domestic white wines by the glass. Be sure and ask for a "quiet table" so you won't get seated in the bar. We did not and the TGIF after work crowd in the bar was pretty loud.

This has to be one of the best spots in Charlotte. Had a food writer (Eater) friend in from DC and he could not stop raving about this place. The items that stood out to him were: the size and openness of the kitchen, the taste (he had surf and turf), and the banana cream pie! This was a great hit and has been in the past for all the family I have brought here. If you like Fig Tree and Carpe this is on their level or higher. Top 3 for me.

I invited a friend whom I hadn't seen for several years to meet me at Emeril's for dinner. I am currently working in Uptown very close to the restaurant and thought it might be a nice choice (Emeril's right). I don't think it was the right choice. We arrived early and it was quiet however as the evening progressed the noise level got louder and it became hard to hear or have a conversation. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits (highly rated on Yelp) and maybe because I'm not a southerner I was not overly impressed considering the price. My friend had a chicken dish and she said it was good however there was no raving about how wonderful the food was until we decided to share desert. We got the Banana Cream Pie and it was very good. We did not imbibe as both of us had to drive so I cannot speak to the wine list or drinks. Even though I was the invitor my friend insisted on paying. I think some of the dishes are overpriced but then its Uptown. I've traveled extensively and eaten in many restaurants in many cities including New Orleans, where I never had a bad meal and this experience was only fair to middling.

Clean, modern decor with artistic touches. Service was very good, and the timing was spot-on (we were attending a show after dinner and allowed an hour and a half at the restaurant). My entree of Lobster and English Pea Linguini was a huge disappointment. The linguini was stuck together is gooey clumps, and there were no English peas at all. There was a substitution of tiny, hard crowder or black-eyed peas which had no color, or flavor. The lobster was the only tasty part of the dish. If the server has informed us that there were no English peas in the dish, I would have ordered something different. There was not time send it back, or reorder since we were attending a show and the restaurant was very busy.

We've dined in most of Emeril's places and looked forward to E2. We were a bit disappointed. The bar was busy at 6, but that's no excuse for glasses of wine not arriving for 20 minutes. Everything was just kinda ok; not bad, not exciting. Gumbo was more like a bowl of gravy, with hardly any rice. Baked oysters were ripoffs of Rockefellers, nothing really original or outstanding. The jambalaya portion was fairly small, the andouille chunks dry, the large prawns rather boring, and the rice flavor too sharp. Wife's grouper was good but underlying cannellini beans boring. Rice "grits" aren't grits, but they were good. Best dish may have been the ribeye cap, but that's not a New Orleans cut. Blueberry crepe was a great finish. Bam that!

We were in Charlotte for only the day and wanted to enjoy dinner somewhere along the Levine Avenue of The Arts before heading home. We chose E2. My Aphrodite Martini was the best I've ever had. From appetizers ( fried green tomatoes) through dessert (key lime pie), our meal was perfectly paced. The food and atmosphere was great, but what really stole the show was the outstanding service, from the young woman who greeted us upon arrival, the Manager(?) who checked on us halfway through, and our wait staff Trey ( a pro) and Hero (in training). Those servers treated us like we were special, even though we aren't! It was the perfect ending to a perfect day. We would definitely like to return there the next time we're in Charlotte.

Service was excellent, including the sommelier who was very friendly and knowledgeable. My dinner date's meal was very good (oven roasted oysters and braised short rib), while my meal was sub-par. The evening's gumbo came across like a bowl of brown gravy, and the wood oven-roasted grouper was overly salty...I couldn't finish it. I think the salt came from the fish's seasoning along with the broth and pieces of ham. For me, excessive salt in restaurant meals seems to be occurring more and more. Back off on the salt and let the diner add it as needed.

Went out with my ladyfriend and another couple that we're friends with. Started off with an two apps, the oysters and an order of their trademark barbecue shrimp....both were delicious, as expected. As for entrees.....I ordered the lamb chops, my lady got a cap of rib eye; and the other couple got pork chops and shrimp & grits for the gentleman and lady, respectively. I can say with first-hand experience that all of the dishes cane with hihh expectations, and none of them disappointed. Finished off with some banana cream pie for dessert and it couldn't have been a better ending. Wine pairings from the resident master, Dylan, were ALL on point. I highly recommended this place for ANY special occasion, even just a random Tuesday night out!

Walking in the door both hostess make you feel welcome with their huge smiles. Mickey the manager and Kevin behind the bar take lots of time in creating their specialty drinks. They make a tremendous drinks with wheat grass and also one with a lavender foam. I know crazy right? Lavender foam. They were both amazing. I also tried the lemon spritzer and could have easily had 3. The food is always delicious from their kitchen. We tried their gumbo in addition to the quail appetizer. Chef Mattola's special was a meat dish with shaved truffles. Talk about tasty. One of our guests claimed to have a sensitive palate but polished off the soup, salad and entree... Dillon the Sommelier has a great taste for wine.

Great cocktails--unusual, but delicious! Innovative appetizers--we tried the pecan praline braised bacon on a bed of julienne pears--heaven! Ordered the classic Shrimp and Grits and discovered a twist there, too--rice grits! They were super creamy and the shrimp were done just right. The sauce is so good no one has any left in their bowl. Have to return another time and try dessert, just know it will be fabulous, too! The outdoor tables looked nice, but the thunderstorms drove us inside. They have a very nice Gluten Free Menu--just ask for it!
