E&E Grill HouseNot Just MeatDon't get the impression that this is a steak house. Yes, you can stick to those items if you so choose, but their fish, salads, appetizers are all excellent and there are many items in those categories. The crab fritters, kale salad, grilled cheese and tomato soup appetizers are wonderful. swordfish special was cooked perfectly, and was tasty.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AME&EMy husband wanted to go to a great steakhouse so I found one just 2 blocks away from the hotel. We arrived into NYC a little late but they were very helpful when I had to move our reservation. When we arrived we were seated in a quiet area. Everyone was very kind and the service was outstanding. I've gone to several elegant restaurants but our waitress at E&E was by far the best she made us feel as though we were her only customers even though she had a bunch of tables. Everything was great my husband had the hanger steak and he loved it. I had the scallops and they were cooked perfectly. We both left very happy and would love to go back again.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSurprise Party went perfectlyI found this restaurant because I needed a venue for a surprise birthday dinner for my fiancee. I needed it to be classy enough that she could wear the fancy dress she loves, but have a good kids menu for her young cousins who were coming from out of town. From the very beginning, I picked this place because of the excellent reviews about the friendly staff, and I cannot put in words how true those reviews were. Everyone was super friendly, and the person who checked us in specifically didn't mention how large my reservation was when we arrived with her. They had seated everyone else 10 minutes before we got there, at a wonderful spot around a corner. Everyone went off without a hitch, and the waitress was extremely friendly. Fantastic!5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMTheater District real mealSo many of the theater district options are chains or just not great. What a find E&E turned out to be! Great location, warm and relaxing interior, friendly service, and great menu. Our family had signature burger (great for the kids), scallops, and pasta special - all unique, interesting, and prepared perfectly. Tofu option on the menu I can't wait to go back to try. Very accommodating of our show time deadline too. Family of somewhat fussy child, picky husband, and a few foodies all very satisfied!5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMTotal ValueWe were treated like special guests by Amanda. The grilled swordfish and hangar steak were done exactly as we asked. Service was beyond Five Star.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic discoveryMy husband and I had a reservation for 6 before our Broadway show, which was only a few blocks away. They seated us right away and the service was excellent. We ordered drinks, steaks, and dessert, all of which were delicious. Our bill was about $100 plus tip. We thought it was a fantastic place for a good meal/date night before our show and would definitely recommend it.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBottomless Brunch!Excellent value for brunch. Choice of brunch entrée and unlimited mimosas, bellinis or bloody marys.
Food was very good as was the service. Perfect place for brunch before a matinee.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMwonderfulHad a wonderful. tasty meal at the E&E Grill. Only issue was ordered the diver scallops, which in my experience are usually pretty big scallops, and when I questioned my typical 6 1" serving size, waitress asked the chef who said they were the usual scallops and diver scallops are usually that size? Anyway, food was great and the waitstaff were really awesome and very attentive.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had eaten at E&E previouslyWe had eaten at E&E previously and the meal was wondrous. We were very excited about returning. This time our steak was tough and had too much gristle. Unfortunately we each thought we were the only one with this issue until we were through eating. One steak out of three was good.
Drinks - wine - ambience - service - etc were all top notch.
the Penne pasta special was just so so.
I was not really happy with the food but everything else is pretty great.
We'll try it again but perhaps order seafood next time. Last time we had steaks and they were excellent.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent restaurant for beforeExcellent restaurant for before the theater. Everyone
very accommodating. Food was great and plentiful.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMVery friendly service andVery friendly service and solid high quality food. Price very reasonable. Was staying at Pearl Hotel and went there before show. Would return.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMWe arrived about an hour earlyWe arrived about an hour early but they were able to seat us right away. Food was excellent. My 7 year old daughter said it was the best grilled cheese she ever had. Waitress was very friendly, good with the kids and very attentive. We were very happy with our experience.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWe are not from the area andWe are not from the area and went to NY to see a show. The hotel recommended E&E Grill and it was very convenient to the hotel and right across the street from our show. The waitress was very attentive and respectful of our needing to see a show and recommended options for timing to ensure we were not late. She even monitored the Will Call line and told us some "tricks" to making sure we had the best experience possible for our Broadway Date Night. The food was excellent, and just the right amount. Had some of the specialty drinks that were very well prepared. All in All a great place to eat regardless, if seeing a show in the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, this is the place to eat!
I wish I remembered our waitresses name - she was aweso4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome gem in the heart of NYC!This great restaurant became a very quick tradition with my wife and I. The warm greeting when we first walk in makes us feel as if we are the only ones there. The decor inspires us and creates an atmosphere of comfort. The food continues that feeling of comfort from their homemade blue cheese dressing to their homemade rolls and biscuits. We will never see a play without stopping to eat at this wonderful place! They are very aware of our time, asking us if we are in town to see a play, making sure we are not rushed, but also making sure to ask in what theater, making sure that we have ample time so as to not miss the first act. Two thumbs way up on this mid town gem!!!!!!4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything was great. We wereEverything was great. We were visiting from Rochester NY. We came on a girls trip to do some shopping and see the show Wicked. We were warmly greeted and seated right away. Our martinis were good and priced reasonably. Only thing I would recommend is a better dessert menu. We shared the brownie sundae. The dessert was good but not up to par with everything else. Overall it is a wonderful place to dine. Im glad we chose this place .4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMPleasantly surprised. SelectedPleasantly surprised. Selected going to Ambassador Theater off internet. Wanted something close by. Great choice.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis is a great place to eatThis is a great place to eat in the Theater District.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find in the theater district! We ate at E & E after seeing "Book of Mormon" (which was great by the way!). E & E is literally right across the street from the theater so it was super convenient. I made the reservation online and noted that we would be there on my wife's birthday; the staff was aware when we arrived and were ready to accomodate! Food was excellent and the prices were very reasonable considering that it's right in the thick of the theater district. We ate very well and we all took leftovers to go. Entrees that we enjoyed were the scallops, the ribs (huge portion!) and the pasta of the day. Appetizers were also very good, especially the grilled and chilled shrimp, and all of the cocktails we had were excellent. Staff was great too!4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMSuberb! This was my second time at E & E, and although I've only been to New York three times, I had to return to this restaurant. The food is fantastic and the service is even better. I was dining alone both times and the staff took great care of me and made sure I wasn't lonely! I will definitely return when I am in New York again.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNice dining experience pre-showMy wife and I dined at E&E Grill on April 4th as a convenience before attending the 7pm Book of Mormon play located at the theatre right across the street. The convenience turned into an enjoyable dinner, good ambiance, good food, excellent service and altogether a very fine experience. The pris fix made sense for us, preceeded by nice cocktails and never having felt that we were rushed. Wait staff was very attentive and curteous. We would definitely come back to this restaurant.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMNot kid centric (but that is ok)Wanted to find a place to go before a show. E&E was just around the corner from our hotel and just blocks from the theater. My wife and I had a good meal. We had our two boys with us and I think the experience was wasted on them. E&E does not have regular french fries, what they have is potato fingers (which taste wonderful)just not what my boys were used to. I would not recommend E&E for kids, but I would go back with my wife.4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMThe E&E Grill House is a great,The E&E Grill House is a great, unpretentious, and moderately priced restaurant in NYC's theater district, and has earned its many praises. Our dinner reservation (made thru OpenTable) was promptly honored; the service, by Edgar, was superb and attentive; and the menu options were excellent. My filet mignon was of the highest quality and perfectly grilled, and my wife described her Market Pasta as the "best pasta ever!" We'll definitely come back!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMperfect brunchGreat food and great prices! Perfect for brunch before seeing "The Book of Mormon"...right across the street!3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMA Great Broadway DinnerWe wanted a great dinner before theater and E&E delivered. Food was more than good, service personal and friendly, and they got us to the show with plenty of time to spare.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot off broadway forGreat spot off broadway for a good meal. The atmosphere when I was there was quiet and comfortable which was what I was hoping for. It was not over the top fancy, but still set a tone that this was not your typical upper-middle tier restaurant. E&E knows what it is, what it wants to be, and what it does and executes it exceptionally well. I felt at ease, taken care of, and satisfied with my meal. Cannot comment on wines or beers as I just had waters.
The salmon was excellent and the prixe frix was a great choice for me. The salmon flaked well, had good texture, and was flavorful. The side dishes were presented nicely too.
All in all it was a good experience, and I'll definitely be recommending the restaurant to friends and fam3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent before-theater dinnerExcellent before-theater dinner experience. We were seated promptly and asked if we were seeing a show. The food was delicious and the service was courteous and timely. Ample time for relaxed meal with appetizer, meal and after dinner drink with a 6PM seating. We were able to make our 8PM show with 10+ minutes to spare. Will definitely return.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat find! Wait staff andGreat find! Wait staff and bar staff were perfect - no complaints at all!!! Food was very good - nice diverse menu!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food and excellentExcellent food and excellent service. We will be back soon and often!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMA great place to have dinnerA great place to have dinner before a show at the Eugene O'Neil Theater!!
They have a great prix fix menu which includes a great hanger steak and salmon. Then we took a leisurely walk across the street to see "The Book of Morman".3/12/2013 12:00:00 AMMy third time at this restaurantMy third time at this restaurant and there is a reason I go back. The filet is always done exactly how I like it. We are seated where we requested and the service can't be beat.3/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe found a treasure! We had a wonderful time at this place. The food was simply delicious. No matter what we ordered, we cleaned our plates!! LOL! The smoked pork chops are to die for!!2/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
