A word from Dyrons Low country
Dyron Powell and his wife Sonya love to travel. Over ten years ago, they were fortunate enough to happen upon the lowcountry of South Carolina and Georgia. There they found relaxed lifestyles combined with one-of-a-kind culinary tastes. In their opinion, it is the greatest place on earth to slow down and enjoy great food and great friends.

Joined by Executive Chef, Randall Baldwin, they opened Dyron’s Lowcountry Restaurant in Mountain Brook to share their love for the culinary offerings of the region. It’s a place for those who have been to revisit their memories and refresh their pallets and a place for those who have never been to get an authentic taste of the unique foods.

Diner Reviews
  • "There were 4 dining with me and our tab was over $330 and no bottle of wine just each had a mixed drink. One of us had half a dozen raw oysters and they were all the size of a dime. The red snapper was well prepared cost $33 but was prepared well. One salad was split between two of us and it was good. I guess my biggest complaint is the price we spent was as much or more than Highland's Bar and Grill. The noise level was a nuisance there and almost felt like had to yell to communicate. i live in Birmingham and this used to be one of my favorite top four restaurants but their arrogance and increase in prices has outdone my opinion and will not be going back any time soon. I thought it was a neighborhood gem but not any more."

  • "Dyron's is a superb place for Sunday Brunch! Bloody Mary's and Mimosas are great but the food to follow is outstanding. Omelet is fluffy, biscuits flakey, and the Hang Town Fry just perfect!"

  • "Food was wonderful. Had a sampling of several dishes(we shared!) and all were very tasty. Biscuits were Southern best!"

  • "Authentic Southern menu, inventive but not pretentious. A good spot to share with out of town guests who are curious about Southern food. While the menu is limited for Brunch, it is a fair offering for most every palate."

  • "Had a wonderful time and meal at Dyrons for our anniversary. The food, always good at Dyrons, was exceptional as well as our server, Evan. Knew when to pop over and check on us and seemed like he almost read our minds. People at the table had a variety of menus items from the oysters to appetizers from fish to steak. Then the desserts rolled in…oh my! We look forward to our next visit even though its a 1 1/2 hour drive for us."

  • "Good food and service in a relaxed atmosphere. I would say that it has a local clientele as many people seemed to know each other."

  • "The food was absolutly amazing. So fresh. I got the flounder with grits and my husband got the shirmp and grits. Both stand out dishes! The dessert was wonderful - both the dishes we ordered were fresh and warm when they got to the table. Now for the service... our server seemed irritated with us, and didn't explain anything on the menu. After taking our orders, we never saw her again and only got a drink refill when we flagged someone down. My husband had a beer and I had one glass of wine. We would have ordered another but never got the chance. She threw down the check and never said thank you or have a nice night. I loved the food, but not sure we will be back again due to the service."

  • "The restaurant strives for a relaxed attitude and attains it. The seating was impersonal but the wait staff was extremely attentive and helpful. The baked oysters were flavorful and very nicely presented. The snapper was also done very well and tasted as fresh as they suggested it would. They pride themselves in the quality of their fish and their attention to the South Carolina Coast. Their pitch toward authenticity adds to the quality of the meal and the experience."

  • "This review is for dinner service. [Often have Sunday lunch at Dyron's and have never been disappointed: Food & service, outstanding.] We celebrated a birthday with dinner there on a week night. Our guests were new to Dyron's. We wanted a special evening & it was but not because of the restaurant. The food ranged from very good to "won't order that again." Was crowded & noisy. The wait staff stretched thin. Our server seemed pre-occupied. Food arrived quickly. However, birthday cake arrived without requested coffee & wait became awkward. Duck dish was recommended & two of our party ordered that: Was tough, chewy & the side dish unappealing. The flounder & chicken were reported to be 'good'. Biscuits were best thing on the table."

  • "Dyron's was described in the reviews I read before going as locally sourced, creative Southern cuisine. I did not read in any reviews that indicated how rich and heavy it was. So that's what my focus is. I'm from CA and not used to butter and cream in everything. The fish was breaded and had a buerre blanc sauce so the taste of the fish was lost. The grits were packed with cream or butter or cheese, or all three. The taste was good, but too rich for me. The waitress was accommodating when I asked if I could substitute the salad that comes with the dinner with brussel sprouts."

  • "Visited Dyrons with another couple from Memphis on Valentine's Day. I was so impressed with their service, attention to guest, and menu selection. The hostess were very cordial and welcoming upon arrival, even though we were late because our out of town guest were delayed in the weather. We were seated promptly and served immediately. The waiter had good command of the wine menu and made an outstanding selection for the ladies who preferred white and for the gentlemen who wanted a distinctive red. My husband had the filet, which he really enjoyed while I took precious small bites to savor every bit of the shrimp and grits. Our guest had the salmon and we were all satisfied and full. Dyron's exceeded our expectations. I'm a fan!"

  • "I enjoyed my dining experience very much. The restaurant service and food quality was above expectations. The dinner menu was not too extensive but good quality pairings for the season. The service and timing of appetizers and meal was excellent. I hope to come back to this restaurant during March."

  • "We love Dyron's. We have known Dyron and his family for many years. He is always successful is every endeavor he undertakes. He has the best chef's, staff and food! The White Chocolate Bread Pudding is to die for! You will not regret the decision to eat at Dyron's Low Country!"

  • "Tried this restaurant for a Valentines celebration. The food and service were great. However we were seated near the entrance and each time the door opened, a gust of cold air hit us. Wife wore heavy wrap for the entire meal. Initially, the noise level was not conducive to conversation, but as the bar emptied, the ambience became more charming. Will try again because the food and service were good and a good effort is made to locally source food."

  • "Every time we go to Dyrons we enjoy it. This time it was our sons birthday. The server picked up on this when she looked at his ID for his wine. We made some jokes about them not doing a group sing around the table by the wait staff, which she said they would not do. However when she brought his cheesecake for dessert she had placed a single candle and just wished him Happy Birthday. It was great, simple, but she remembered and it made him feel special."

  • "Our meal is always great at Dyron's. Sonya & Dyron, the owners, make everyone feel welcome and at home. Great for all ages. It seems difficult to imagine a kid friendly place also being great for couples, but Dyron's manages the impossible. Delicious food, great cocktails and super service!"

  • "The food was delicious, southern, and very local. The fried seafood platter was some of the best seafood I've had this far north of the gulf. It was a little loud, but nothing that I would prevent me from recommending the place or returning again."

  • "Recently visited Dyron's after church and had a very nice meal, although service was a bit slow. Delicious salmon (perfectly cooked- just a little on the cool side) and bacon and cheese omele0- not exactly piping hot either. Cheese grits were very good and salad w salmon was fresh with a nice lite dressing. Only complaint was service was slow.. and it didn't appear the restaurant was too crowded. Our waiter was very nice we just found ourselves "looking for him " on several occasions. In his defense, it appeared he had tables in a small area (opposite the patio/outside door)AND on the outside patio. I DON'T KNOW WHY YOU WOULD DO THIS TO A SERVER. Overall a nice meal and we will return~"

  • "Dyrons is a great neighborhood restaraunt and favorite spot for the locals. Food is always delicious and they serve some of the best fish in town. Great wine selection and good atmosphere. Service is always outstanding-some of the friendliest in town. From the hostess to the servers to the owners, they always make you feel welcome. It's a great all around dining experience!"

  • "This was the first time I have not totally loved everything I have had at Dyrons. I ordered grilled grouper. I did not notice the Farro Piccolo that came with it. I feel sure that this Farro Piccolo was as good as it gets for farro. For me, the taste, smell and texture ruined my meal. Now the Braised Rabbit appetiser....that was to die for!"

  • "Obviously a popular spot for the hip crowd, A little loud but we were in a quiet corner. The food was excellent. Service a little slow but not bad. Not a romantic spot for couples."

  • "The food was SO good, I'm still dreaming about it. However, we were there on New Years Eve so it was relatively crowded and the service was not good at all. We waited for 15 minutes for a server to come to our table for the first time. The service was slow all night. We asked for bread twice and never got any. I know it was a busy night but the sign of a great restaurant is being able to handle crowds, even on busy nights of the year. My friends were there with a separate party, had a different server, and they also said the service was bad. What lacked in service, was made up for in food. Everything was mouth-watering. I would go back because the food was so good. If the service is slow again though, I will probably not return."

  • "We had a wonderful evening at Dyrons on New Year's Eve. The restaurant was packed, but our table was waiting when we arrived. Even though it was a very busy evening, we got good service and wonderful food. There was not one complaint from our table. The wine that our server suggested paired well with the menu selection. Our food arrived promptly and attractively served. We were very happy with our choices and we shared the white chocolate bread pudding for dessert. The atmosphere was lively but we could still hear well enough for conversation. Overall, a very enjoyable evening."

  • "We had a late dinner on New Year's Eve and enjoyed it immensely. It was crowded but the staff was doing all they could to accomodate and take care of everyone with wonderful service. The we had oysters to start both raw and baked - yum! Our table enjoyed shrimp and grits as well as the tenderloin (cooked perfectly)!"

  • "Yes, I still date my wife. What do you expect? It's only been 37 years. Table setting nicely done and had a waitress who remembered our preferences from before. Noise a bit high at first but it quickly settled down. Just conversation noise and we conversed easily for most of the evening. The cocktails were well done and ample. Sue's fried seafood plate was quite tasty. I had trigger fish, which was amazing; cooked and seasoned just right. And our chocolate cake desert tasted great and had enough cacao in it it even gave me a sort of "everything is beautiful" cocoa buzz. Best dining experience in a long time and a great place for a date with your sweetie, even if you've only been married 37 years. ;-) Tom"

  • "My wife and I had a great dinner. The baked oysters surprised us. We have had a form of this dish a different restaurants around the country, but Dyron's version stood out. I enjoyed the Beef tenderloin, and my wife enjoyed the Black Grouper. The food was fantastic. Our server was knowledgeable about the menu, and did a great job of recommending items when we inquired."
