We will be back!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMMother's day dinner.We went as a group for Mother's day dinner. I personally like this restaurant. The wine list is fine. My Bordeaux was good. The foods were fresh and taste great. Others in our party were more critical of the foods. They said it is too salty.
Services were very good. This is a good restaurant even if it is a bit pricey for the location. Parking is a bit difficult. A couple who looking for a romantic dinner might be better off somewhere else but I enjoyed my dinner.

He was attentive, witty and a real pleasure. My bottomless Mimosa was never empty! :) We have lived in Sarasota for close to 20 years and have yet to find a nice, affordable Sunday brunch. Always good to take a local's input and the suggestion paid off well. Service was great and food even better. We had the gumbo which was spicy and seemed to be a delicious mix of rue based LA gumbo fused with lentil soup. The result rocked. Followed that with swordfish special...they served a huge portion of the tenderloin, which is the best cut of that fish. Prepared and seasoned perfectly. My wife had the sausage stuffed pork chop and it too was extremely tasty. All around a wonderful experience.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMPerfect Luncheon GatheringFour women meet every couple of months to catch up. All being foodies, the place is important. Two hadn't been to Duval's before and they highly complimented their lunch selection - far more enthusiastic comments than ever before. (The other two who chose Duval's were obviously returnees.) The menu is eclectic - everyone can find something they love and all I've tried have a special twist.

has been excellent in every way. Our unfortunate experience on New Years was certainly
not typical of what Wes Duval and his staff are accomplishing here.
His Onion soup is as good as any restaurants in OUR COUNTRY, and the po boys are a nice
inexpensive sandwich that does not scimp on the fillings. His dinners are good values
and show attention to detail and the freshness of the ingredients.

I had their scallops Rockefeller with fried oysters on top, which were delicious, and my husband had the halibut special, which he liked very much. Mashed potatoes are a favorite of mine, and theirs are interestingly green and surprisingly good. Both meals were served with a melange of sauteed veggies--red and green peppers, onions, my kind of vegetables. We decided to share dessert, and chose their apple tart, served with a swirly mound of whipped cream--it was excellent! Our server, Sam, was knowledgeable, attentive and friendly. We had a reservation and upon arrival, we were shown to our seat and Katlyn was there immediately to ensure we were seated properly and to say that she would be taking care of us. After ensuring we were settled with a glass of wine, she told us of the specials and how they were prepared. I chose the 3-Tail fish which I had never heard of but Katlyn assured me it was a wonderful fish and my husband chose the Salmon. We shared our plates and enjoyed each equally. The servings were perfect sized. Then don't forget the bread pudding. However, our waiter was not on top of his game, and we had to ask him to come back so we could order. "Krystle" our server was an added pleasure with helpful hints and timely and attentive service.
Our group especially appreciated having the "round table" which is very accomodative for pleasant conversation for a group of 6 to 8.

The scallops were just barely done, and fork tender. Overall, it was a great experience. My only criticism is the wine pricing. Generally a fine restaurant will charge no more than 3X street prices for the wine, but Duval charges around 4X, which is high. The service was very pleasant and three of us really liked our dinners (three different choices: salmon, crab cakes, filet minon). Our fourth person ordered lamb and it was almost impossible to cut. When the waitress asked us at the end of the meal "How was everything?" he told her the lamb was unacceptable. The Yearling potatoes were to die for. The the american snapper with crab cake on top was out of this world. I guess you can tell they have a great chef and good quality.
