  • "Had a girl's night out with 3 friends and it was wonderful as usual. The crowds are gone so it wasn't crazy busy or loud. Minor complaint was the size of the scallops of the dish I had. Expected larger diver scallops but the dish was still very good. We enjoyed sharing appetizers & dessert as well as 2 bottles of wine. Fun time with the manager when they ran out of the wine we wanted!"

  • "What can I say? The food was fantastic and the service very attentive. The 3 of us had various seafood dishes, all beautifully presented and delicious."

  • "Duval's has set out to distinguish itself from other places on Main Street for the range of quality seafood items on offer at competitive prices. The marketing effort appears to be successful, judging from the near capacity crowd of diners on recent evenings. Perhaps the management has not yet been able to adjust to its surge in popularity since service can be slow. But the restaurant retains its appeal."

  • "Love their seafood entrees, salads; crab/shrimp cakes! Coco beach shrimp - yummy! Can't wait to go back. Service is excellent."

  • "As always, excellent food and service. this has clearly become one of my favorites in downtown Sarasota. I highly recommend Duval's. In season (November -April) reservations are recommended to get a good quiet table."

  • "Mains: Trout and fish special. Both excellent. Dessert: chocolate cake. Excellent. Overall, very nice. The merlot by the glass we ordered was OK. For the price, there are better merlots out there."

  • "My husband and I tried Duval's with friends last Saturday evening and were truly WOWED! with our dining experience! Everyone enjoyed their plates from my Vegetarian Husband's grilled veggie plate to my friend's Oyster Po' Boy (which by the way he raved about!). We WILL be back again and again..."

  • "Have been to Duvall many times and the food is always consistently good. Nice local catches and well presented. Always fixed exactly as asked. Reliable and very pretty restaurant."

  • "This was a special occasion for us and we were anxious to try a new restaurant. The shrimp appetizer was great; crab cake only ok. The main dishes were wonderful dressed with yummy sauces/dressings accompanied by shredded vegetables. I did not find that each entree looked and tasted unique. The menu was rather limited. Service was totally rushed and plates removed without asking. The prices charged do not support the service or the food and I would guess that each entree was over priced by $5 to $10.00."

  • "Portions were too small, service was good, food ok. We've had lunch there & prefer that, great PO boys. Would not return for dinner. Our meal with a bottle of wine for 4 was $200....many other places to choose in that price range that we would prefer.."

  • "I had the shrimp and grits, and my wife had the grouper special. The seafood was very fresh and cooked perfectly. Our salads were made from local produce and were extremely fresh and tasty. we ate outside on a beautiful evening. our waiter was attentive without being intrusive. We plan to return soon."

  • "first time visit at Duval's - good experience! - good value! - good flavors! - good ambience! good service! forgot to ask regarding PEI mussles, when is the best season, or is there a season, I was told (in The Netherlands) best during the months with an "R" that is September through April"

  • "we hade a lovely dining experience at Duval's in Sarasota. All four of us had different entrees and all four of us were exceptionally pleased. The quality of the food was excellent and our server really knew the menu. Overall it was a top notch dining experience. It was crowded on a Friday evening during season, but despite that it was not too loud."

  • "Excellent dining experience for seafood lovers. All the entres were well presented and the fish cooked to perfection. Wine list could use a little work. Bisque appetizer was tasty but could have been served at a warmer temperature."

  • "We read Trip Advisor reviews after seeing Duval's ad in local paper. We discounted a couple reviews that rated Duval's as less than spectacular for one reason or another. We were greeted politely at the door and promptly seated in a table away from the entrance and the kitchen. A couple or three managers were "on the floor" continually checking on everything going on everything and helping servers and bus staff. Our waiter, Marcellus, was excellent. He was very attentive, but not overly so. Our orders were served in a timely fashion and the presentation and quality was excellent. Duval's is a "keeper" and we'll be back."

  • "Appetizers were delicious and husbands bouillabaisse was also wonderful. The salmon entree was very good but very small. Wondered where the rest of my severely petite salmon was and asked. Was told that all dishes are weighed."

  • "This was our second visit to Duval's. This time was just as good - or better than the first. Service was outstanding, attentive without being in the way. Food was served promptly but without rush. My Ocean Scampi was to die for. Lemon butter sauce with lobster and shrimp - what could go wrong! My husband's grouper and appetizer shrimp & crab cake, were also well prepared and looked beautiful. The taste however was even better. We will be back."

  • "This was my first dining experience at Duval's. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted very graciously and seated immediately. The waiter was very attentive and professional. The fish was fresh and not overcooked. In all, it was a good dining experience."

  • "The setting was great, the service was 'meh', and the food had room for improvement. Diners beware that Sunday Brunch has an abridged menu. The website shows the full lunch menu and then only select items when you arrive. I decided to have French toast with fruit (instead of bacon). The first slice was cooked perfect. The other two were soggy and must've sat in the egg mixture too long. It was such a disappointment since our entrees took a good 20-30 minutes to arrive on a half empty restaurant."

  • "Everything about our experience at Duval's was wonderful. Great waitstaff, great and original food. Overall a truly lovely dinner. Definitely will recommend to our friends!"

  • "My husband and I recently moved to the Sarasota area. We are anxious to try new places to dine. Duvall was recommended to us as a great seafood place. We were greeted ,seated, served appetizer, entree, dessert and a bottle of wine in under an hour. Extremely aggressive waitress. We felt rushed and not able relax and enjoy our meal. Food was average at best."

  • "The food was impressive in its freshness, attractive presentation, and taste. Wine (by the glass) excellent and service friendly and swift. I did not particularly like the seating; we were at a deuce with neighbors close by on either side. One can live with that in Manhattan, but in Sarasota? The dessert list was also impressive. Although the prices were steep, I will definitely return as the food quality is definitely memorable. One of the owners stopped by our table for a friendly schmooze. All in all a very nice evening."

  • "Restaurant is just O.K. for lunch. I've not had dinner there. Their po'boys are acceptable but nothing compared to the ones in New Orleans. Other dishes rate similarly. The day we were there items on the menu were not available because they said that they hadn't gotten a delivery from their fish supplier."

  • "Our first time visit. The decor was stylish and chic. Our waiter was pleasant and very attentive to my special dietary need in having the kitchen adjust an entre for my gluten intolerance. When my dinner came, ahi tuna, it lacked flavor as the soy based sauce was omitted (gluten). I commented to the general manager / owner when he stopped by to ask about our meals and he offered to prepare 2 sauces for me to try, one was a wasabi balsamic reduction, and the other a Thai sweet / hot sauce. They were both prepared from scratch and excellent, just what was needed for my ahi tuna which was an excellent piece of Tuna cooked to perfection. My wife had mahi mahi in a lemon, butter sauce with capers, and cilantro .. Perfect."

  • "We celebrated our anniversary and my birthday with a wonderful dining experience at Duvals. The traffic was heavy and parking was difficult, but the dining made it all worthwhile. The service was excellent - received from the entire staff. Our server Misha was so dramatic describing the evening specials that my mouth watered just listening. We had to try two and we were not disappointed. We shared the special berry cobbler for dessert and again were not disappointed. This is a great place for any occasion and we look forward to attending again, very soon."

  • "This was our second time to Duvalls. The first time was wonderful, but this time the food was just ok. Aaron was our server and he was excellent. One of our friends had the chicken and he said it was very dry. The rest of us had fish, one had the snapper and two of us had the amberjack. The amberjack was fishy and although it was blackened, it really didn't have much taste. We didn't say anything to the waiter as it was "good enough" but I guess we were underwhelmed. The wine was very good."

  • "We came to Duval's for St. Patrick's Day and were not disappointed. We shared the gumbo to start which was so good we fought over who got to finish it. The mahi mahi was fantasic and the roasted chicken with carrot puree was amazing. This restaurant does it right!"

  • "I don't like surprises when I receive my restaurant check. We ordered red snapper fish and tilefish. The fish was a little dry, so we asked the waiter for some additional salsa topping. He said he would bring some. No mention of an additional charge. I was surprised to find a charge of several dollars additional for the salsa when I received the check. The gazpacho (soup) was excellent."

  • "If there's such a thing as elegant fast food, Duval's is serving it, and at a very agreeable price. At the peak of lunch hour, it's pretty noisy but otherwise, this is something of a gem."
    Dined on 3/13/2014
  • "They had no record of our open table reservation. I showed them the email confirmation and they still could not find it in their system. Not a good start. There were four of us. We each ordered something different. One meal was wonderful. The other three were not. Despite ordering different things, they all tasted too lemony."
    Dined on 3/10/2014
  • "Food was fresh and prepared well. Our server provided excellent descriptions of the specials for the evening... then the remainder of the service was questionable... food orders for two tables next to us taken before us and manager placed out order and delivered our bread after we called him to the table. Server did not ask if we wanted anything other than butter for the bread. Asked for more water and never got it. Sooooo --- the upscale restaurant service this night did not meet our expectations! Would I go back.... maybe, but not soon.... There are so many wonderful eateries in Sarasota on or near Main Street."

  • "A good choice for dining throughout the day -- great downtown location; amiable, professional service; interesting menu choices; and consistently well--prepared dishes. A well-run restaurant by managers who know what they are doing. Always a pleasant experience at reasonable prices. A liquor license is pending."

  • "I didn't try the specials or the locally caught fish which is supposed to be their calling card. Went instead with usual favorites and they were bland and unexceptional. Wait staff was excellent and attentive. Specialties may be a reason to go back and try new dishes."
