A word from Durgin Park
For well over a century, Durgin-Park has catered to the hearty appetites of straw-hatted, white-aproned market men and local characters. Today it hosts visiting celebrities, business men and women, students, and tourists from every part of the globe. While the origin of Durgin-Park goes back to Revolutionary days, the era of fame for its chowders, Indian puddings, apple pan dowdy, johnny cake, and New England boiled dinners started some 130 years ago when John Durgin, in partnership with Eldridge Park, a livery man, and John G. Chandler, a dry goods merchant, took over. The theme followed to this day was decided upon then by these old Yankees, that the best advertising is plenty of food on the table.Continued

  • "Our waitress spent most of the time sitting and visiting with the folks seated next to us, leaving us with empty glasses and no food. Once we did get another beer and the food, the lobster roll was inedible. It tasted like lemons and pepper. Not a hint of lobster taste at all. Who screws up a lobster roll?! Three of us were to have a bite and drinks before a concert. I fully expected more than 3 drinks in the 2 1/2 hours we were there..but the waitress was nowhere to be found. In fact, time was of the essence and had to ask the manager to track out waitress down so we could get the check. Thankfully he took the lobster rolls off the bill. I'll stick to strictly drinks at the bar downstairs.."

Problem#2... prices three times more than they should be. Problem #3... Only 4 or 5 other parties there and obviously tourists. There once were laurels to rest on but those days are over. Skip it."

The food is always good and being in one of the old buildings in the market, adds a nice ambience. The red checker table cloths and the home made cornbread make it a fun and casual dinner spot."

  • "I've been going to Durgin Park since my first time in Boston. It has changed a bit since the corporate buyout, but still has really good, classic New England food. One change I've noticed in recent years is that the servers are younger and friendlier - the young man serving us was delightful. DP has, for a long time, been something of a tourist place - no longer the long lines of locals waiting for a table, although reservations sure make it easier to plan. The food is still really good and the portions are very large. Everyone in our group loved their food - corned beef, lobster mac cheese, clam chowder; lunch special was a thin slice of their wonderful prime rib - put that on dinner menu. Indian pudding for dessert, of course!"

  • "We were told we needed to go here for some good comfort food. As we walked in we were promptly seated next to a window on the second floor that way we could see the Quincy Market. The server was very helpful and our food was served so fast we could not believe it! The prime rib cut was amazing! The cornbread very good also. For dessert we got the strawberry shortcake, the strawberries were sweet and plenty. We will definitely recommend this place."

  • "The appetizers which were all seafood were fresh and great. Little neck clams, cherry stones, shrimp cocktail all excellent and succulent. The steamed muscles in garlic butler superb. We were disappointed to see the fried lobster no longer on the menu. We all had the prime rib which is their specialty. It was fair. In fact it was tough and over cooked, As was the baked potato. Had we gone later and had it been extremely busy we would have given it that excuse, but we got there about an hour and a half early for our reservation, so seating was very open at this time. I am sorry to say, we are not going back."

  • "Durgin Park has a long standing rep for food, service, and location. We enjoyed the enthusiastic and good service by the staff, however, my meal was bland: beer-battered fish and chips. The batter was tasteless and not crisp, the fries were not hot nor crisp, the coleslaw limp and the dressing weak. That said, my husband said the shepherd's pie was good although a small serving size for the price. "

The food was just ok (had much better for the same price), the restaurant itself needs some upgrades while still maintaining its historical ambience, and even though it wasn't too busy at dinner time, the waitstaff wasn't very attentive."

We had our menus in front of us and the staff totally ignored us. It was VERY noisy where we were seated with all the action around us but none given to us. We left. What a waste of our time!"

All of the dishes came out one at a time with too much time inbetween servings. so my guests got less than hot food as well. Will not return."

  • "If you are craving roast prime rib of beef, as my son and I were, then you must go to Durgin Park. The Durgin cut is enormous, delicious, and perfectly cooked. The mashed potatoes and squash were good also. I have been coming here for 40 years and found our meal and service to be at the highest level in years. While this is not a place to come to for nuanced or complex cooking in any way, it is good straightforward "yankee" cooking. I am tired of hearing it referred to as a tourist trap. It is fun to come here and enjoy the whole experience. There is no absentee celebrity chef. Just regular people (diners and staff) in historical dining comfort."

  • "We had a fabulous time for a Saturday dinner at DP. I had the scrod & my wife the yankee pot roast. We shared & agreed that the dishes were extremely well made. The scrod was lightly grilled & quite tasty. I asked if I might substitute a salad for a baked potato & the waitress instantly granted my wish. The dining room was packed with very lively groups & so the atmosphere was very festive. We were too stuffed for dessert. Upon leaving we strolled around Quincy Market which was all lit up & occupied by lots of happy looking folks. A walk through Faneuil Hall was also quite an experience what with all the amazing displays of food and the smells that wafted in the air. A wonderful evening!"
