A word from Durgin Park
For well over a century, Durgin-Park has catered to the hearty appetites of straw-hatted, white-aproned market men and local characters. Today it hosts visiting celebrities, business men and women, students, and tourists from every part of the globe. While the origin of Durgin-Park goes back to Revolutionary days, the era of fame for its chowders, Indian puddings, apple pan dowdy, johnny cake, and New England boiled dinners started some 130 years ago when John Durgin, in partnership with Eldridge Park, a livery man, and John G. Chandler, a dry goods merchant, took over. The theme followed to this day was decided upon then by these old Yankees, that the best advertising is plenty of food on the table.Continued

  • "This is a traditional quintessential place that has historical ambience going back nearly 200 years. It is where my father dined in the 1950's when he was at MIT and Harvard. It has great food, seafood including the crab stuffed lobster I had and of course the famous Indian Pudding. It is great for groups."

  • "Although I have lived in the boston for a long time, it was my first time here. I really enjoyed the food. There was a wide selection of options and prices."

  • "I took my business colleagues to Durgin Park, many of whom are not from Boston. The waitress was hilarious and the food was delicious. Unfortunately they were out of many of their beers on the list, but we still found some that we liked. It was great to be able to sit a large party with little notice, thanks OpenTable!"

  • "Durgin Park has been around forever and is a tradition for many. Originally the staff were like "Cheers" in that the theme was like Carla. This time that is gone and the staff is like most restrauants. That is not a complaint either as it used to be or is now. The prime rib is still great."

  • "Don't worry about the atmosphere the food and staff are wonderful. Had the fisherman's platter and it was a very nice portion and not fluffed up with French fries or scrod. Had mostly whole belly clams, incredible shrimp, calamari and scallops. All the kids burgers where good size and they loved. No complaints here and we will be back. 2 adults with drinks and 4 children all meals with, app and a free dessert bill came to $108."

  • "It was loud and service was slow. The good was cold."

  • "We have been eating at Durgin park for 30 plus years. As with all things, it has changed, but not for the better. It has definitely gotten more "production line" type food rather than the unique place we are used to. The menu has really been reduced and the special prime rib that they are know for is just adequate. The onion rings are run of the mill, no more fried lobster or lazy man's lobster served in a casserole swimming in butter. The one thing that has remained the same is the cornbread! Still delicious, but much smaller."

  • "The food was very basic. I was not impressed with the clam chowder. We had a table reserved upstairs but it was so nosiey that we decided to leave before ordering. (I've never done that before) The kind Host find us a table downstairs by the bar that was far less noisy. Our server got our order wrong. Which happens sometimes but tracking him down to fix the mistake was an ordeal and so was getting 2nds on drinks. There are so many great places to eat near by that I wouldn't go back or recommend it to someone else."

  • "Our waitress ordered my husband the wrong item fixes the wrong, then proceeds to bring my food and not my husbands. The food was tasteless and the presentation lacked."

  • "It had been a long time since I had last eaten at Durgin Park, but my wife and I were in the area and made a reservation. I'm glad we did. We got an outside table and were able to enjoy ourselves people-watching as we had dinner. The food was good but nothing special; my pot roast was tender and plentiful, but a bit on the bland side. But hey - it's pot roast - what do you expect? The service was very attentive and they had no problem taking us earlier than our reservation time. My wife and I enjoyed our meal and the atmosphere. It won't be as long before we are back!"

  • "Fun and friendly staff here, in the heart of Fanueil Hall. The food is amazing. The menu is full of fresh New England choices. The deserts are homemade. Prices are very fair and it's a good value for the portions. I am allergic to nuts and they accommodate responsibly. My favorite!"

  • "Not having been to Durgin Park in many years, I was delighted to find that it was all that I remembered. The food is still fabulous; the waitress was excellant; the ambience was pretty much the same as the old days. It's very reassuring to find that some things never change. In the case of Durgin Park, this is wonderful."

  • "Ample portions at reasonable prices. Not the highest quality food, but great for a family gathering. Not trenddddy hipster joint, but good ole New England staples."

  • "the hype about their prime rib is universal - wasn't was ok nothing special - asked for an Durgin end cut while another asked for a middle cut, middle cut was double size of end cut - meat was tender but lacked flavor - usually end cut is super seasoned it wasn't - waiter was cold - "what do you want..." left brought food never saw again until bill was brought to table - baked beans were cold and mostly sauce had to look for beans - nt worth the money can get same if not better at so many other places"

  • "In original site with its longte traditional meals-durgin present rib, lobster, strawberry shortcake, as good as it was my first time 59 years ago. Highly recommended."

  • "Kids loved it, seafood fresh, must try the shortcake. Service very friendly. Wonderful Boston classic experience"

  • "Our waitress spent most of the time sitting and visiting with the folks seated next to us, leaving us with empty glasses and no food. Once we did get another beer and the food, the lobster roll was inedible. It tasted like lemons and pepper. Not a hint of lobster taste at all. Who screws up a lobster roll?! Three of us were to have a bite and drinks before a concert. I fully expected more than 3 drinks in the 2 1/2 hours we were there..but the waitress was nowhere to be found. In fact, time was of the essence and had to ask the manager to track out waitress down so we could get the check. Thankfully he took the lobster rolls off the bill. I'll stick to strictly drinks at the bar downstairs.."

  • "Our visit started with the waitress tossing the napkins on the table in a ball. Although she was attentive the food was terrible. Don't bother. Not worthy of a foodie."

  • "Two couples: one spouse of each introducing other spouse to the famous prime rib experience we remember from college and after. Problem #1... No prime rib left at 5:30 on Sunday night. Problem#2... prices three times more than they should be. Problem #3... Only 4 or 5 other parties there and obviously tourists. There once were laurels to rest on but those days are over. Skip it."

  • "My family has come to pick Durgin Park as some place we try to get to on any of our trips to Boston. The food is always good and being in one of the old buildings in the market, adds a nice ambience. The red checker table cloths and the home made cornbread make it a fun and casual dinner spot."

  • "Wonderful old historic restaurant with great food and service!"

  • "Food was good, decent price and large portion, gotta try their seafood platters, so large that you would want to share with another person. :)"

  • "Durgin park Is a landmark and something to see, but the food and service are not up to standards. Visit the Resturant but eat elsewhere."

  • "Great place to take a new graduate that likes a good prime rib dinner. He loved it. Salads were very good also and of course the Indian Pudding for desert."

  • "prime rib quality poor and overcooked, Lobster was tough and mealy."

  • "Whenever I go to Boston (from the UK), I head here. It is the best place to have lobster: bibbed up, rustic, easy going setting, great staff (Gina is a gem and has worked there nearly 40 years!), and simply cooked exquisite tasting lobsters. Over the years I have been with friends, my husband and - this time - three children. Each time it was a great experience."

  • "I've been going to Durgin Park since my first time in Boston. It has changed a bit since the corporate buyout, but still has really good, classic New England food. One change I've noticed in recent years is that the servers are younger and friendlier - the young man serving us was delightful. DP has, for a long time, been something of a tourist place - no longer the long lines of locals waiting for a table, although reservations sure make it easier to plan. The food is still really good and the portions are very large. Everyone in our group loved their food - corned beef, lobster mac cheese, clam chowder; lunch special was a thin slice of their wonderful prime rib - put that on dinner menu. Indian pudding for dessert, of course!"

  • "It had been over 40 years since I had been to Durgin Park. My fond memories were confirmed as it is still as it was, and is still terrific. A great Boston tradition with years of memories and always great seafood and beef."

  • "We were told we needed to go here for some good comfort food. As we walked in we were promptly seated next to a window on the second floor that way we could see the Quincy Market. The server was very helpful and our food was served so fast we could not believe it! The prime rib cut was amazing! The cornbread very good also. For dessert we got the strawberry shortcake, the strawberries were sweet and plenty. We will definitely recommend this place."

  • "We were surprised there were so few people there on a Friday night. This was a 'nostalgic' visit for my husband who attended Harvard more than 50 years ago and we had our grandson to introduce him to Durgin Park. Food just the same as 50 years ago!"
    Dined on 5/9/2014
  • "We had a great meal. My husband had prime rib and I had the stuffed shrimp. Their portions were large. We had a baker's dozen of oysters which were delicious. Overall - a great restaurant serving delicious food. Thank you."

  • "The bone in prime rib was outstanding, one of the best I had, and our waitress was great."

  • "This place was one of 2 reasons why I came to Boston. Well worth it. A bit noisy (sounded like there was a dance club down stairs) but food was quick and tasted great. Have to go back again. "

  • "The appetizers which were all seafood were fresh and great. Little neck clams, cherry stones, shrimp cocktail all excellent and succulent. The steamed muscles in garlic butler superb. We were disappointed to see the fried lobster no longer on the menu. We all had the prime rib which is their specialty. It was fair. In fact it was tough and over cooked, As was the baked potato. Had we gone later and had it been extremely busy we would have given it that excuse, but we got there about an hour and a half early for our reservation, so seating was very open at this time. I am sorry to say, we are not going back."
