Well, finally for a special occasion we made reservations and were we ever glad we did. From the shrimp cocktail, which was the largest I could remember and served chilled almost perfect with the best sauce; to the hot bread served with a very light sauce. The salad was cold and the dressing very tasty. The entre. The most prefect peice of meat I had ever seen. It was still hot and had the just the right char. The center just the right pink. This cut of meat was a picture of excellence such that I had never known. Will I be back, absolutely! Did my wife have the same experience, yes she did! Eat meat.This is the place that I take people when 1) I want to impress them, if they will appreciate old school, 2) I want a decent traditional cocktail, 3) I want a big steak, and 4) I want to feel transported back into another era. Service here is not fussy, but prompt and effective. Appetizers are traditional steakhouse fare, and well executed. I always get the chicken livers.
Steaks are fantastic, well prepared and generous. (Vegetarians, don't even bother coming here, it won't be pleasant.) Sides are okay, but that's not why you're here.
My 12-year old had not been here before and was duly impressed. My husband and I went for dinner on a Friday night. We made a reservation and were seated as soon as we arrived. We ordered the Calamari for an app which was great only wish was for a little more marinara on the side. I had the Prime Rib and My husband had the New York Strip both were cooked and seasoned to perfection. Although Durant's pricing is above average you do receive a dinner salad and a choice of different potatoes or rice pilaf. Compare to some other steak houses where everything is ala carte. The wine list is extensive and has a little something for everyone. The food is always delicious, no matter what we order. This time we had seafood . Even though it is a steak house, the fried shrimp were outstanding. The stone crabs were very good. They seem to be running a little small this year. Our friends had lamb chops. They said they were the best they have ever had!!! A salad or soup comes with your dinner. A side also comes with it. It's not cheap, but they don't mickle and dr you for everything. Delicious garlic loaf served and crudte. The menu provides adequate variety without being overwhelming, and all the food we ordered was prepared to perfection! It was refreshing to find a local steakhouse where our salad, vegetables and potatoes were included in the dinner pricing! We did not request a booth for our birthday group, so our initial seating was in the middle of the very busy dining room in very close proximity to other tables and the kitchen. Upon request, they graciously moved our group to a booth which was delightful! Had the prime rib, which was perfectly done and very tasty. As was the appetizer and soup. All great. We went at 6 PM on a Sunday and it was packed. And very noisy! The service was really slow due to the big crowd but the server was attentive and we generally enjoyed ourselves. It took us almost 2 hours to get through our meal. At least as the dinner crowd subsided it got much less noisy. I will go back, maybe at an off hour.
