The evening got better and better as the excellent food was served with attention to each person's particular requests. The Shrimp and Crab Louis Salad was as generous and delicious as ever, and the steaks were divine. Desserts exceeded expectations and the Strawberry Shortcake was especially notable. The whole evening was smoothly handled by our server Ron, who is our favorite! The service was impeccable, and the food was outstanding. I had the calf's liver with onions and bacon (it's one of the specialities), and it was prepared perfectly. Our server was excellent, and when I ordered a wine by the glass, she asked if I had had the wine before. Red-flock wallpaper, semicircular booths, no windows, low ceiling, subdued lighting, busy at lunch time catering to local business people. Many varieties of hamburgers. A bit of sea food. Reminds me of similar-vintage restaurants in Hollywood. Friendly. Don't expect any nouvelle cuisine. My wife and I thought it was time. We entered, of course, through the kitchen and arrived for our 5:30 reservation. The food is always delicious, no matter what we order. This time we had seafood . Even though it is a steak house, the fried shrimp were outstanding. The stone crabs were very good. They seem to be running a little small this year. Our friends had lamb chops. They said they were the best they have ever had!!! A salad or soup comes with your dinner. A side also comes with it. It's not cheap, but they don't mickle and dr you for everything. Delicious garlic loaf served and crudte. This place would not be a place I would pick just on a drive-by survey. However, this was one of the best meals and celebrations I could have imagined. The ambience was astonishing, taking us back 50 years to experience the type of dining they must have experienced. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone. The menu provides adequate variety without being overwhelming, and all the food we ordered was prepared to perfection! It was refreshing to find a local steakhouse where our salad, vegetables and potatoes were included in the dinner pricing! We did not request a booth for our birthday group, so our initial seating was in the middle of the very busy dining room in very close proximity to other tables and the kitchen. Upon request, they graciously moved our group to a booth which was delightful! We were seated immediately upon all of us arriving at the restaurant. Our experience was made all the more enjoyable by our server who seemed to know when we were ready to order without rushing us and allowing us to have plenty of time to enjoy each other's company. The food was wonderful with the exception of one of the medium rare steaks that had to be sent back for another few minutes on their grill. We usually get to Durant's about twice a year for special occasions and have always left feeling very satisfied. A couple groups near us were very loud, laughing all together very loudly and I had difficulty talking with my wife. However I would go back again because the steak was first rate-well marbled , cooked just right and very tasty.
