A word from Dune
Dune, new to Nantucket in 2009, is a creation of Michael Getter, formerly of 21 Federal and American Seasons restaurants. The décor in our three distinct dining rooms is a blend of sophisticated elegance and soothing comfort. Along with our exotic quartzite bar and charming patio we offer an extensive selection of handcrafted cocktails, wines, liquors and cordials along with offering full lunch, dinner and dessert menus. We would highly recommend Dune to anyone seeking a Upscale food & drink at a great outside bar and/or Superb supper with family and friends at centrally located restaurant serving inside & outside (under awning which only adds to atmosphere) Dune!!!! You won't be disappointed!"

  • "First time at Dune, we really enjoyed the ambiance (sat inside, they have an outdoor patio too) and the food was excellent... never had chickpea fries, but they were a winner. Only negative was desert menu wasn't that interesting and the only think we thought looked interesting (doughnut) was sold out. That said we would go back..."

  • "Dune is fine. The atmosphere is fine. The food is fine. The service is fine. But, in Nantucket, there are better places that are better than fine. Each dish was, well, fine. Nothing bad to say, but certainly nothing special either. It's an acceptable place to go when others are booked. But, it's not a destination restaurant."

  • "Food and Service were fantastic!! Definitely recommend the beet salad. My only complaint is the close quarters with other diners. We were a table for 2 that was seated at a table for four which was two tables fused together. This left little room under the table for your feet due to the legs of the tables, which made the seating a little uncomfortable for 2 diners over 6 feet tall."

  • "Host very nice and accomodating with a nice table. Gravlax made from farmed salmon that wasn't very fresh. Drinks were poor. Waitress not knowledgable, and therefore would have ordered differently if she gave correct info. Broccoli rabe side dish was covered in raisins. Not appetizing. Main course local fish - they ran out - and we were there early. Very poor experience. Will not return. Trying to make fancy food - but I would rather have good food that is less fancy."

  • "My parents and I enjoyed a Fathers Day Lunch at Dune. We started with mimosas. I enjoyed the Hoisin Duck, a nice bend of flavors. Dad enjoyed his fish tacos with salmon. Mom loved her lobster roll with a buttered, toasted brioche roll. Great service and very friendly staff."

  • "Food was ok - nothing outstanding. Pricey for content. Segments of the meal were good - others could have been better. Mixed Greens salad was dressed very well, good flavor. Tuna with Panzanella Salad was mediocre. Panzanella salad was a mess! Not good. Halibut special was very good. Waiter needs to lose the attitude - he's not in Italy anymore. Our water and bread server was more attentive than our waiter."

  • "I have been coming to Nantucket for 20 years, and have eaten at almost every restaurant over that time. While there are many good ones, Dune is the most consistently creative, with a regional fresh products focus. This was my 6th time eating there, and I have never been let down in any way."

  • "A very pleasant dinner started with a half bottle of Lucien Crochet "Le Chene" Sancerre (white). (They corked the remainder which I took to my inn and drank two days later.) I was in the mood for chicken so ordered the grilled chicken which came with falafel, Tzatziki sauce, cucumber salad, tomatoes and feta cheese, satisfying my fondness for elements of Greek cuisine. I ordered a side of grilled asparagus which was delicious but more than I could eat. My dessert was a scoop of chocolate sorbet. The setting is in neutral sandy beach colors and the whole ambience is relaxing and elegant without being pompous or stuffy. Well done! (I used to come here for lunch or dinner when it was Ciopinno's but hadn't been back in awhile.) "

Modest Montagny from Nicolas Potel's Maison Roche de Bellene was perfect! My glass just needed refreshing more often! I would have loved to see a Landmark Chardonnay on the list too!"

  • "Ate at Dune on Thursday, 15 May, had the duck confit for an appetizer. It was tender, succulent, and out of this world. Wife had the Cod special and I had the Halibut both of us were impressed with the food. The preparation was perfect and the portion size was ideal. Since we were here for wine weekend we also had a bottle if wine. The wine was properly presented and poured. Overall the service from Colleen and her assistance was everything you would expect from a five star restaurant. The only disappointment is we are at Dune on our first night on the island, every other restaurant has been judged against their food and service and have all fallen short. "

  • "Had a birthday dinner for my wife. Great appetizers but beware , very filling, very, very good. Between me, my wife, her son, we had three different appetizers, entrees, desserts. All were excellent. Wine list was complete and broad spectrum. Son is a sommelier, so he easily picked 2 winners, one still, one sparkling. We'll be back as soon as we can!"

  • "This was our first visit to Dune. The service staff were helpful and very pleasant. The food is good, maybe a little better than good. The pan roasted calamari was excellent, the salmon perfectly cooked. It's the room that poses the problem. The tables are too close together-it is difficult not to hear adjacent diners' conversations. When being seated or departing, take care not to knock over stemware at the tables next to you. Maybe lunch? Perhaps an investment in table linen might add a bit of style to the space?"

  • "This is a very sophisticated and rewarding restaurant. The food is prepared with original tastes and presented in artistic fashion. The service is attentive, if a bit quick between courses. It is not a restaurant in which you will likely feel comfortable lingering long over a meal. The kale salad and the beet salad are wonderful. The highlight of our two visits were the bay scallops, small, slightly browned in a white sauce with delicate vegetables. Most dishes are offered in two sizes and this does mean medium and small. This restaurant comes highly recommended."

The duck confit was melt in your mouth delicious and while you can never go wrong with Nantucket scallops, somehow chef Michael Getter makes them even better! I would not only recommend Dune to friends, I would recommend it to strangers!"

  • "From beginning to end a classically enjoyable evening. From the friendly greeting at the door to the attentive and engaging waiter to the impeccably prepared and presented food. The pace of service was great. The ambience of the restaurant was energetic, wonderful for the middle of winter! Really appreciate the option of 1/2 orders on some entrees which makes getting 3 courses a comfortable possibility. : ) Great wine list, good variety of bourbons too, thanks! Our party of four can't wait to get back!"

  • "I know it has been a while since we have eaten here, but I can still taste the food in my mind. I wish we didn't live a boat or plane ride away- we would have been back many many times. We licked our plates so clean that you couldn't tell there was food served on them. Probably the best meal we have had since our honeymoon (30+ years ago)! We were 5 at our table and we all enjoyed each course immensely. Thank you, Dune, for your exquisite meal."

  • "Great restaurant with a lot of local and fresh ingredients (a must on Nantucket). I was on a date and the opportunity to order small plate versions of the main courses is great to try different things and really enjoy the experience. The staff we're great and very friendly. Some people prefer silent service, but I don't mind a server that's willing to talk about the menu and improve your experience. The food was all interesting and good. Some items, like the clams, eschewed simplicity in favor of crazy blended flavor profiles. The only thing I would recommend is that the protein or the focus of the dish should really stand out in my mind. I want to taste the protein in its best preparation. Some of the items were overdressed/seasoned."

  • "Dune was a great experience for my wife and I over the weekend. We got there a little early before our reservation and the host was fantastic. He said there was a table open, not ours, or we could get a drink at the bar and wait a bit. A few minutes later, he approached us with a third option and we were seated. The service was prompt, informative and friendly. The food was even better. The special appetizer, BBQ pork belly, was outstanding. The entree special, fresh pasta, was even better. My loved her scallops. Finally, the special desert, maple/marscapone cheesecake was a delightful way to end a fantastic meal."

  • "Chose Dune for last restaurant visit on Nantucket before leaving for the season. Excellent choice! Had dined on the previous eventing at American Seasons and thought that would be hard to beat. Dune proved me wrong. Had special pasta as an appetizer and scallops for main course. Desert was the apple pie. All accompanied by a sparkling rose. Been to this restaurant several times and each visit seems better than last. Can't wait to return!"
