Dundarave Fish Market reviews from OpenTable diners
  • The 4 of us decided on this
    OpenTable Diner Since 2006

The 4 of us decided on this restaurant as we all had heard great reviews but were greatly disappointed (the 2 ladies sitting at the table beside us were also disappointed). To start we were surprised at how many items they had sold out of so early in the evening - approx. 7:30 pm on Sat night. We shared 3 appetizers, the oysters were excellent, and the prawns in a cast iron skillet and the Riptide squid were very tasty. For dinner, 2 ordered the planked salmon which were both over cooked & the meal lukewarm and the other 2 had the cod dishes which were just ok. After dinner the upstairs became very cold and we saw very little of our server. To summarize, for the price of our meals, we all expected more than what we received.

I discovered the Dundarave Fish Market at "A Taste of Dundarave" and haven't looked back since. It is a wonderful restaurant with a great ambiance and succulent seafood. A real gem in a delightful neighbourhood.

We have been long time diners, I find the menu change (a move to "fine dining") doesn't work as well for the dining room and food. In my opinion the tapas style was more successful and the business slowdown indicates this could be true. The prices have crept up to an unacceptable level, we will be hard pressed to return.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011

This was our 3rd visit in the last two months, or so. The first two visits were quite good. This last visit was awful. We moved once to get away from a cold draft. The starter, crab spring rolls was sort of OK. But they could have been crab, salmon or anything. For the main course my wife had salmon on a plank. The salmon was dry, the asparagus was tough and cold and the potatoes very cold. I had the "seafood soup", which was more, or less OK, but again cold. No one checked how we were doing while we were eating. At the end of the meal my wife had left the asparagus and potato pretty well untouched and noted to our server that it was cold. She offered to get her some warm potatoes! It seemed she only wanted "good news".

We booked the upstairs lovers booth for our anniversary dinner. Food was fast and service was promt. We enjoyed the coconut prawns and the crab spring rolls. Our main course was amazing. Fresh Coho with garlic mashed potatoes, thumbalina carrots( I asked the for the name of them as they were so delicious) and perfectly cooked green beans. Our server was friendly and we had a nice evening overall. We will be back for dinner soon!

We have been there many times and are pleased that the successor chef to Sean really has it all together. We waited a long time for wine and especially the third bottle which we got after the meal.We were upstairs and we have noticed that several times before. Also the only bottle of french wine was expensive (65.00)which disappointed our Swiss host a bitso he felt compelled to choose a California cabernet sauvignon We had reccommended the restaurant Having said that, the food was excellent and brought a number of "oohs and ahhs" from our party of six with exception of the disapointing lemon meringue tort which was soft and overly tangy in taste

We are repeat customers, and this is our primary neighbourhood restaurant. Food is consistently great, made with the freshest ingredients. Menu for frequent visitors like us could use a change once in a while, but anyone visiting the first few times will be happy with the number of choices. Prices are fair to somewhat high, which isn't really a deterrent in well-heeled Dundarave.

Enjoyed the food quality but we were seated upstairs which felt very closed in with low ceilings. We were also seated in the corner which made it feel even worse. Dinner was well prepared. The mussels were delicious. My salmon was nice and moist. Not sure I would make the effort to go there again give I live downtown.

  • Needs major renovation
    OpenTable Diner Since 2009
    Dined on 3/25/2012
The service here is consistently iffy with lots of attitude. The place needs a major renovation; the seats are old and uncomfortable, and the seating arrangements leave only a very few tables that allow for a decent dining experience; tables are either too close together, too close to the kitchen, or the deli where customers come for take out. It's a good place for a quick feed of fish and chips, but other than that this is not a great dining experience. The food overall is pretty good, simply prepared and very fresh, which would be the only reason this place is still in business.

    OpenTable Diner Since 2011
    Dined on 1/17/2012
We had been to Dundarave Fish Market last summer and had a great meal on the patio. We went back recently with expectations that were not met. The fish itself was good and cooked well but the rest of the meal was cheap and unremarkable. We had a veggie kabob with our meal that was basically just cheap mushrooms and onion. The portions were very small and far too expensive for what we received. There was a strong fish odor in the restaurant and it was quite cold. Luckily out table was beside a space heater or we would have frozen. The alcohol was very overpriced as well. We will not be back.

We had the Sesame tuna wrap and Mussels Marinier. We also had oysters that were 2 for 1! Great deal considering where we were. Really good, friendly service and consistent food every time we eat there now. Sometime you catch sight of a local celebrity. Fun place, great atmosphere.
