  • "On the water was always great, but menu now is better from my perspective. Had the coconut shrimp to start - five good size shrimp with nice dipping sauce. then had black garlic preparation for sea bass - flaky and tasty. TS can sometimes get stuck in rut, but this outing was great - but would avoid the upside down cake - little too much and too dense."

  • "I would definetley come back to Duke's! There's a view no matter where you sit. Luckily they seated us by a window :) The server was friendly and the food was really good and we didn't wait so long for it to come out."

  • "This is a reasonably priced restaurant that has an A+ view of the ocean. The "team" service concept did not work well for us. Twide asked the "B" waiter to bring us more bread. The second time he said it was being baked. It never came. All-in-all pretty good experience."

  • "Nothing really notable to forth here, great view, decent food and very pricey. A typical Malibu restaurant."

  • "Our go-to restaurant on the beach; unpretentious and a great view of the surf, which can splash against the windows. The food is good, service friendly. The Barefoot Bar has a smaller menu and the outdoor patio a beachy ambience."

  • "I have been to Dukes on several occasions and have always enjoyed the service as well as the food. When I visited this time however, I would have to say that I was let down—mostly by the service of our waiter, but also because of menu selections. I still think the restaurant is a great place to go and would suggest it to my friends."

  • "We were celebrating with an elderly mother who loves the seaside. Duke's was fabulously accommodating, ensuring we got a table with a perfect view of the ocean. Our waiter (and the others at surrounding tables) were upbeat & friendly. Duke's was packed on a holiday weekend, with lots of birthdays & other celebratory groups around us. This is not a quiet, sophisticated, low-key seaside setting (of which there are many choices in Malibu). This is a family-fun, relaxed, slightly kitschy, casual ambience. The appetizers were our favorite part of the meal. We plan to return and just order a full meal of appetizers. The best sweet potato fries we've ever had. Mom loved the old-fashioned signature ice cream pie -- big enough to feed all of us."

  • "We made our reservation via phone. It was really busy, busy. We were seated at our table within 5 minutes of our arrival time. The hostess was friendly and helpful. Our waiter was friendly, helpful, efficient and seemed totally there for us. I saw him at other tables and that was the way he was. We particularly like the appetizers - we ordered two and a lemonade and a volcano. It was all totally fantastic!! And then we had the hula pie, with fudge on the side. We left feeling special, wonderfully full and happy."

  • "Had a nice lunch there over a holiday weekend. Glad I made a reservation because it would have been a long wait otherwise. Food was average...nothing bad, but nothing notable either. But it was a great view, fun place and a good overall experience."

  • "We love going to Duke's! We brought some out of town guests there and they loved the food, the view and the wine list. One person in our party is a wine connoisseur and was thrilled to find a wine that he says is rarely on menus. We made our reservation in advance, had to change the number of persons later and requested a view table. All this was accommodated perfectly. We couldn't ask for more."

  • "The restaurant was delicious and had a great view our waiter kiristina (I believe was her name)... Was very sweet and very nice. And the valet was quick considering that a vehicle in front of us was holding up the line because his battery died. The handled the situation quickly. Is definitely come back. Please make one big menu... With all!!!! Your entrees. More visible food equals more business. Before my sister told me they had MORE menus based on where u sit; I was ready to write a negative review...."

  • "The food was good however I did get a large fish scale in my main meal! The service was poor - we didn't get to hear any specials, didn't get a chance to point out the fish scale, he flitted to our table so briefly that we didn't have an opportunity to order a wine with our entree, he slapped down the dessert menu and didn't wait to hear if we wanted anything. One and only time in USA we decided not to tip. Perhaps the waiter thinks Australians are not great tippers and decided not to bother."

  • "Food, view and service was outstanding. Fish dishes are outstanding and varied. But the menu could use a couple more non fish entrees."

  • "Duke's is my favorite restaurant. We take all of our out-of-town guests there, but I can think of any reason to go. It's like taking a mini vacation."

  • "What a fun and romantic place to grab a bite with your special loved one. What's better than sitting right up along the coastal rocks, viewing the ocean, and having ocean waves splashing up on the window right by your table. Great view, experience, service, and food especially when you're with the gal of your dreams."

  • "I came here for the view and on a friend recommendation. It is a Hawaiian themed restaurant, so heavy on the coconut and shrimp. I did like that they used local seafood. The only issue I had was that there were a lot of ingredients per dish with not a lot of room for substitution. It was difficult for a picky eater to eat here. Often there were multiple sauces on the same plate and the sauces were in pretty large portions. If the menu were a little bit more simple, it would have been ideal. The service was excellent!"

  • "I am becoming more & more disinchanted with Duke's Malibu. Being charged for parking after spending more that $100 for a dinner that consisted of 3 sour dough roles, a piece of halibut, a scoop of rice! Parking raised to $5. $8-$9 for 4 oz glass of mediocre wine. A young waiter was "disinterested", at best; boarding on rude. And, when I asked a female host to move us to a different table because the waves were almost hitting the window, she looked at me like I was crazy; and offered to close the window. I honestly don't believe I will return. There are too many restaurants less expensive, food that is just as good or better, that don't charge for parking and that are closer than a 50 minute drive to reach. What has happened to Duke's?"

  • "After a very slow, very congested ride down PCH, made it to Duke's. Glad we did. Cheerful valet, fun waitress, excellent service, good food. Also ocean waves crashing outside. Barefoot Bar hopping. Free dessert since we had been to all the Duke's. Overall, a wonderful experience. Worth it!"

  • "We were late for our reservations due to LA traffic. Seated with slight wait at a window table as requested. My birthday lunch and we had a great time. The calamari was as wonderful as I remembered in Oahu. Everyone enjoyed their meals. They did not rush us out. Thanks for a wonderful memory."

  • "Extremely busy place, so make sure you make a reservation. Staff are incredibly friendly and efficient. We had a booth at the window, so the view gets no better. Food was delicious, and you must share a Huka pie for dessert. We'll be back."

  • "Great view. Parking- convenient. Seating- prompt. Brunch is alright. Sort of expected more for $32/adult. I had a toddler (23 mth old) and a 7year old who only ate fruits. And for $14 per child, that was expensive. They should charge by age. Wished I would have had looked at my receipt carefully before paying. I called today and was told that they don't charge kids till they're 3 years old when they can actually eat a plate on their own. Sigh. Could have had saved $14. Sadly, I gave the waiter over 18% in gratuity too and the service wasn't that great. I end up drinking my husband's cup of water at the end of our meal cuz my cup been out and no one bothered noticing to refill it. My 7yr old got two small glasses of OJ- never offered more."

  • "Loved the food, service and artmosphere! We took my husband to Duke's for dinner on Father's Day. We arrived before our reservation time and took a seat in the bar. The bar tender was pleasant and helped answer some of our questions regarding adult beverages. We were notified, prior to our reservation time, that our table by the window was ready! The server was attentive without being intrusive. The coconut shrimp ap., halibut, lobster and king crab legs were all delicious! We will definitely go back again...what's not to like about a restaurant on the coast of Malibu :)"

  • "The food was good, not great, but the views were spectacular. So great to see the ocean waves crashing against the shore. Our service was excellent. The hula pie for dessert is a must. Ice cream pie, graham cracker crust, topped with nuts and tons of delicious hot fudge."

  • "Dukes of Malibu is for the casual yet upscale diner. The dining experience is excellent with views of the pacific ocean. If you visit at the right time. You could see humpback whales or dolphins swim past the restaurant. The service is always fast and friendly. The staff always stops and chats but you never have to wait for your order to be taken or your food to be delivered. I highly recommend Dukes of Malibu."

  • "Had the turkey bacon and bur rata sandwich; it was outstanding! I actually was surprised by the combination of seasonings and flavors and enjoyed it very much. Of course, the ocean view is beautiful and seeing dolphins playing in the breakers was an added bonus."

  • "Very disappointed. We are veterans of Dukes Waikiki and went to Malibu for a dinner celebration. View is great, everything else was halfhearted. Server was barely going through the motions and didn't seem to care. Apps were pretty good. Pork buns were spicy and tasty. Dinner was aweful. Like warmed up banquet food. Will not be returning. Will stick with annual trips to Waikiki"

  • "We wanted to get out of the Valley for the evening and first chose The Beach Cafe at Paradise Cove, but because of the parking and price increase, we changed to Dukes. The price of parking is actually the same now. We were seated quickly in a window seat. I would have preferred some shi crab soup and a less exotic fish like halibut, salmon or cod, but they were unavailable and I settled for a cup of clam chowder and a starter seafood cocktail and my husband had the ahi. Food and service were just OK."

  • "Dukes has defined beach dining for many, many years. In my opinion, it still rates high in the competitive L.A. restaurant market, and an easy 15 min. drive up the coast from L.A. The food, service and of course that coastal view is unbeatable. If you're lucky enough to land at a window table, you can enjoy the relaxing waves that roll in right to the rocks in front of you...... (although, you can see the ocean from just about any seat in the house!) The menu is varied with many tasty appetizers and entrees. Dukes is a personal favorite and I hope to return as often as possible."

  • "This is a great Malibu location of the Duke's chain of Hawaiian-inspired restaurants, and it offers breathtaking views of the Pacific ocean while you enjoy your dining experience. The menu is varied and current, and the service is respectful and prompt."

  • "My friend and I went to Duke's for lunch to celebrate my birthday. It was a sunday we learned the whole restaurant was for brunch only so if we wanted other food we had to go to the bar which we did. Everyone said happy birthday so I knew my friend had called ahead and some sort of birthday surprise was to come. Service was terribly slow we had drinks, lunch the check came and we paid a different server since our server went missing and no birthday surprise. My friend before we left went inside to complain, talked to the manager and was told that we left too soon - the server was going to bring my birthday fruit but "we" left too soon so they threw it out. Really... what restaurant has you pay the bill and then sings to you afterwards."
