When we arrived we were seated at a booth for 4 with a chair squeezed onto the end of the table. My cousin had sit in the isleway with trays of food flying past her head at any given time. As well my fiance and I both had to stradle her chair to get into our seats. It made no sense to me seating us there when there were larger tables available throughout the restraunt. Our waiter was very pleasant but with too many tables, was unable to pay attention to our needs. I had the fish sandwich which was AMAZING!!! All of the food was fantastic!! However we were never brought bread or condiments we requested several times. To make up for it the waiter gave us a peice of pie. :/6/10/2013 12:00:00 AMBetter then expected. We had a gift certificate, but when I mentioned it, the server just smiled and said, "We'll deal with that at the end of the evening". The portions were not smaller, and the quality of the service was still excellent. Some restaurants will treat you "less than" when you mentions coupons, or gift certificates. I don't remember our servers name, but she was a great waitress. I'd made the reservations on line and noted it was for a birthday and never mentioned it when there. We came to Duke's for lunch on Saturday, June 8th. Our waiter (I believe his name was Matt) was fantastic. Very friendly, knowledgeable and provided great service. Our lunch was delicious. The peach ice cream was the best I've ever had. I would recommend this place to any family or friends. We had an excellent dinner of Opa which we thoroughly enjoyed even though I am not a fish-eater. It was great, well prepared with macademia nut crust and I cleaned up the entire plate. Service was enjoyable too... we had Matt, an aspiring actor and excellent server. As I am in the technical end of the television industry we commented that maybe someday I would be working on a show that he is in. We had a window table with a beautiful view of the Pacific. Our waitress was friendly and didn't pressure us to try random items. We had our 3 month old son with us and Duke's was ready for us with a sling. I brought friends visiting from the East Coast so they could see the ocean, & the picture windows afford a view from almost every table (though booths are primo real estate). The brunch? Terrific. Neatly kept trays, food constantly replenished, & many healthy choices. I love the poki, salmon & mussels. The eggs are fresh, tasty & don't suffer from the usual buffet curse. Dessert is included, but I always order Hula Pie (ice cream, macadamia, chocolate cookie crust, hot fudge, need I say more?), which I first tasted in Hawaii. An added bonus, the original Gidget, the gracious Kathy Kohner Zuckerman, works there.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat spot for a family celebrationWe chose Duke's as the location to host a small family gathering / celebration for one of our family members. RSVP was for 10, and upon arrival we were seated in the center of the main dining room, along the windows, with a beautiful view of the ocean, as requested. Our server was excellent but took 1 star off because he didn't have enough support (i.e. not enough wait staff to cover all the tables on a busy holiday weekend), so there were a few stretches where we didn't see him for a while. The Pinot was excellent, the mixed drinks potent, and the food was very good. Mid-way through dinner a trio of Hawaiian musicians sang a couple songs at our table, and the whole room joined in when they played 'Tiny Bubbles'. I made a reservation, however we still had to wait a good 20 minutes since I requested a table by the window. I understand that in order to accomodate my request I had to wait and the hostess directed us towards the bar. The bar was great and we were provided a good service. The dining experience was really great. We all loved our food and our server was attentive, respectful, and accomodating. Matthew provided us with a great customer service. The view was amazing and it added to the whole experience. Lastly, I have already recommended this place and we will be back since we had a great experience.

My husband really enjoyed all the history and memorabilia on "The Duke" , as he is an ex-surfer. The prices were reasonable and the food was prepared well. Dukes has a nice Hawaiian theme going on. the food was good I had various appetizers ( Mango Ribs, Coconut shrimp and the layered seafood dish) all were good. The seafood risotto was amazing and you couldn't beat the Alaskan crab legs.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMIts Always Fun!!We get into Duke's about once a month usually on Friday for lunch and always have a very good time. The girls that greet us make us feel welcome and act like they are really happy we came. The service has been attentive without being overbearing. While our selection of food has not explored the entire menu what we have ordered has been very satisfying and provides very good value for the money. One of the things that we are looking forward to is coming down some Friday night and having a few drinks in the Barefoot Bar and then dinner. Right on the water, the view is the best part of the restaurant, often including seals, dolphins and sea fowl of all kinds. The food at Dukes is standard American fare, always well prepared and tasty. The service is efficient and cheerful. We took Mom for Mother's Day and it was a madhouse. They were at over capacity, yet handled the crowd with real skill. The brunch was excellent and, while so noisy conversation was difficult, the ambience was warm.

The atmosphere was relaxed and the staff was friendly. the views of the ocean were spectacular! All items we ordered were very tasty and the fish tasted like it had been caught that day. Our server seemed slightly inexperienced, but he was friendly and was trying to keep up with his tables. We finished our meal with the famous Hula Pie which was just as we remembered it on Maui. Over all we had a good experience. The setting is fantastic with the waves crashing against the rocks right outside the window and the spray reaching the glass. Though a "nicer" restaurant one would not feel out of place in jeans, nor dressed for a special event. The food is creative, unique, and delicious. Though there are offerings on the menu for those who don't care for fish, the fish is what makes this place. Daily specials brought in from the islands makes for a true Hawaiian dining experience. The food and service were great as always and we loved watching the ocean waves crash against the rocks and see the sea lions and dolphins playing in the kelp beds. We even saw Brown Pelicans diving for food. And Duke's comped us a delicious birthday dessert. The last time we ate at Duke's in Malibu we learned that the hostess who greeted us as a child was the inspiration for the Gidget book and movies.
