  • "Dukes is a great casual dining restaurant and with a window seat, a view of the dolphins is almost guaranteed. The food is very tasty and presented in a decorative fashion, appealing to the eye. The hula pie is a must have for a sharing finish to your meal."

  • "A little overrated. Food was good not great and it was as hot as hell in the restaurant. The A/C was off, why I don't know. The price was fair enough. just"

  • "When you want the combination of a nice meal that won't kill the budget and the enjoyable view of the sun setting over the Pacific, it's hard to beat Duke's."

  • "Fun to take company to. Great view, fun history lesson (all the photos with and about Duke and the surf culture). I wish there was even more info about surf culture there tho. You kind of have to know a lot yourself. It is very very loud inside. The barefoot bar is fun with sand beneath your feet."

  • "We had a nice table with ocean view. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable, recommending his favorites. The Seafood Chowder was the best in Malibu and the huge piece of Hula Pie was enough for four. I was a bit disappointed with my spinach side salad as it was soggy and I told the waiter. The ambience is always relaxing and fun. We usually eat and drink in the Barefoot Bar during Happy Hour and always enjoyed it. We love Dukes and will continue to drive here from Calabasas."

  • "Service was outstanding - very attentive and accommodating. Sat and looked out at the Pacific Ocean while we dined - way cool! Fish selection was very good and there are 4 basic choices of preparation. The hummus appetizer was good with two very different selections - macadamia nut and edamame. There are no gluten-free desserts offered other than ice cream."

  • "Every aspect of dining at Duke's is superb...from the parking attendants, to the hostess staff, to the wait staff and, over all, the food and ambience. This place cannot be beat for value. That is why we keep coming back."

  • "The staff was incredibly nice and accomodating. The Mac n Cheese was to die for so delicious! There as not much variety in food choice but perfect if your a Hawaiian foodie. And ask for a window seat; watching the waves crash against the rocks is just beautiful."

  • "Our reservation was honored. We were originally seated at a table away from the window and the table next to us had a large loud party so we asked to have our table changed. We waited a little while and got a table next to the window which was much quieter. We had an out of town guest with us and she really enjoyed the ocean view. The food was wonderful as always. We all had the seafood salad which was wonderful and filled with delicious shrimp and crab. The bread was good as was the mud pie which was brought to our table for my husbands birthday. Yummy."

  • "We sat down at our table, no server for 20 minutes! A "miscommunication." I'd asked 3 servers to get a waiter. Waiter finally arrives, apologizes, comps a few apps, but kids already starving and cranky. After dinner, left restaurant, realized 10 seconds later we'd left stuffed animal there, drove back, ran in, checked our table (already cleaned), highchair where I'd left it was gone. I asked our waiter whether they found stuffed animal, said busboys hadn't seen it, couldn't help me and left. I asked another server, same answer, couldn't help me and left. No request for phone number if they found it, just "tough luck." I asked for manager, asked him to check high chair, he shows up with it, it was in the high chair. No apologies."

  • "The food is good but nothing special. The view is wonderful. Made my reservation several weeks in advance because we had a visitor from out of the country and wanted to eat on the water. Made this request in my reservation. Called an hour before our reservation to make sure that the view would not be a problem and I was told that they would see when I got there, and if not, they would tell me how long my wait would be. I explained that I put the request in my reservation and am calling in advance but they were very rude and said they couldn't guarantee it. When we arrived we had the seat we wanted but I don't understand the rudeness from the hostess. The only reason we ate at Dukes is because of the view. Never again!"

  • "We came for a family dinner to celebrate Mom's birthday. We shared our food so we all could get a taste and waiters were very accommodating about this. We loved the steamed pork buns as an appetizer. View was lovely. Food was good and service was excellent."

  • "We (two adults and two kids) had dinner reservations at 6:30pm on a Saturday night and were promptly seated when we arrived. Although it took a while for the waiter to take our order after that the service was really good and he was very responsive to our needs (my daughter was not having a good night and he brought her a special dessert on the house). The meal was above average and provide the right proportions unlike some restaurants that serve way too much food. The people were very friendly and the view was excellent. You can't get any closer to the ocean without being right over the water. However, the acoustics in the restaurant has much to be desired. It's way too noisy in the restaurant."

  • "I just love the view but I also really appreciate the quality of the food and the service. It was a lovely place to celebrate our 33rd Wedding Anniversary. We came last year for our Anniversary and a special birthday. We will be back."

  • "We had a great ocean view from our window table. The fish and chips and the service were very good. We really enjoyed the time we were there."

  • "Had been to Duke's throughout the Hawaiian islands previously...so thought we'd finally try Duke's Malibu--which ironically, is just a short drive for us. Had out of town guests from the Midwest who we thought would really appreciate the nice view of the Pacific Ocean, good food, and relaxed atmosphere. The hostess was nice enough to accommodate our request for an oceanfront/window table...so we killed some time at the bar drinking some delicious Long Island ice teas. And let's be honest, after a couple of those, it was relatively easy for Duke's to hit the mark! That aside, really enjoyed it and would come back, absolutely."

  • "Once again a great waiter. Laid back but very attentive to our needs. Food is excellent and proportioned so you'll have room for the excellent desserts."

  • "Duke's Malibu is so close to the water that the screen covering the open window we sat next to was wet from the wave splash. The food is consistently good. We started with an appetizer of Fried Calimari (big, solid pieces, not the spindly bits you sometimes get), then moved to fish cooked in different preparations. All were cooked to perfection, moist, not dry, and very tasty. The side dishes are normal, and the Hula Pie dessert is very enjoyable. And the service was attentive without smothering us. Overall, Duke's remains a place we will continue to go back to, both on the mainland and in Hawaii."

  • "I decided to take my girlfriend to Duke's Malibu for her birthday because the restaurant is right on the beach! We were sat almost immediately thanks to our reservations. I requested a table by the windows and I was pleasantly surprised- not only did we get a window table, we got the table where the window opened! Dinner was spent smelling and hearing the ocean! So pleasant! The waitress was attentive and friendly. They gave us a birthday dessert! We could not be happier with our experience, and you can bet we will be going back to Duke's Malibu multiple times!"

  • "We visited Duke's to celebrate my sister's birthday. We requested a window table through Open Table and were given the most wonderful window table (the window was open and the screen let a gentle breeze in). It was heavenly. All of our food was fabulous! I love all the fresh fish options. I was surprised at the gourmet level of all of the food considering the reasonable prices. Without our even asking, they served us a GIANT slice of Hula Pie. It was so scrumptious, the three of us ate all 1800+ calories of it. Super mai tais too. It is so nice to see an excellent restaurant in this nostalgic location. I remember eating hear in 1964 with my parent when it was the Sea Lion."

  • "The food was horrible. For a restaurant on the beach there should have been more seafood. I was so dissatisfied. My lobster was horrible and my server never asked how everything was. The menu was not well thought out. I honestly would not recommend this restaurant to anyone unless they have never eaten food in their lives."

  • "once a year, usually for someone's birthday or for our anniversary, we always go to Duke's in Malibu. Its quite a drive from Thousand Oaks, but we don't mind that much. Its been a tradition for us ever since going to Duke's on Kauai in the 1990s. It helps re-connect us with the Islands. The views here are stunning - they're right on the rocks facing the Pacific. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Palos Verdes Penninsula to the south and Point Mugu to the North. We saw brown pelicans, dolphins, seagulls, paddleboarders and some sailboats. The food was delicious and promptly served. And we always ALWAYS have the Hula Pie for dessert. The servers are attentive, friendly and helpful."

  • "The view is awesome. The wait staff is great! The food is just so so and overpriced. We went there for lunch and ordered Tahitian shrimp, which sounded great but was just good. Also ordered the fish tacos. They really needed some flavor. They were served with mayo and a mild pico de gallo. I would have liked some sauce with flavor other than sour cream. My dad ordered the cheese burger, Who does that at a seafood restaurant? He added the extra avocado and bacon for a total of $18.50. He said it was good, but I doubt it was that good."

  • "Loved the view, like we were right on the beach. The server was friendly, bringing a basket of rolls and our drinks. My daughter ordered the BBQ chicken salad. She asked for NO avocado tomato salsa. Then we waited and waited... Server came by and noted the kitchen was slammed and our order would be up soon. More waiting and saw that tables seated after us were getting their food. I signaled the server who said she'd check on our order. (I figure our order got lost.) More waiting and it arrived covered in the tomato salsa. Told the server and she took it back. More waiting. My food went cold waiting for my daughter's order. When the server brought it back, it was covered in tomato salsa again!!!! No bueno."

  • "The atmosphere, service and food were excellent. One of the guest had to wait a bit longer for her meal due to an error on the food preparation. However, the restaurant compensated the delay with an amazing huge complimentary dessert......unbelievable. This restaurant deserves the outstanding recognition for the best customer service."
