  • "Nice for the view, right on the water. Food was average"

  • "The food was horrible. For a restaurant on the beach there should have been more seafood. I was so dissatisfied. My lobster was horrible and my server never asked how everything was. The menu was not well thought out. I honestly would not recommend this restaurant to anyone unless they have never eaten food in their lives."

  • "Love coming to Duke's. It's one of my boyfriend's favorites. We used to come just for special occasions, but the food and service are always so wonderful we don't mind the drive. Always make sure to have a reservation, and they take great care of us."

  • "once a year, usually for someone's birthday or for our anniversary, we always go to Duke's in Malibu. Its quite a drive from Thousand Oaks, but we don't mind that much. Its been a tradition for us ever since going to Duke's on Kauai in the 1990s. It helps re-connect us with the Islands. The views here are stunning - they're right on the rocks facing the Pacific. On a clear day you can see all the way to the Palos Verdes Penninsula to the south and Point Mugu to the North. We saw brown pelicans, dolphins, seagulls, paddleboarders and some sailboats. The food was delicious and promptly served. And we always ALWAYS have the Hula Pie for dessert. The servers are attentive, friendly and helpful."

  • "The view is awesome. The wait staff is great! The food is just so so and overpriced. We went there for lunch and ordered Tahitian shrimp, which sounded great but was just good. Also ordered the fish tacos. They really needed some flavor. They were served with mayo and a mild pico de gallo. I would have liked some sauce with flavor other than sour cream. My dad ordered the cheese burger, Who does that at a seafood restaurant? He added the extra avocado and bacon for a total of $18.50. He said it was good, but I doubt it was that good."

  • "My friends are from out of state with none to little beach front dining... They've love it. Food were great n staff were very accomodating."

  • "Loved the view, like we were right on the beach. The server was friendly, bringing a basket of rolls and our drinks. My daughter ordered the BBQ chicken salad. She asked for NO avocado tomato salsa. Then we waited and waited... Server came by and noted the kitchen was slammed and our order would be up soon. More waiting and saw that tables seated after us were getting their food. I signaled the server who said she'd check on our order. (I figure our order got lost.) More waiting and it arrived covered in the tomato salsa. Told the server and she took it back. More waiting. My food went cold waiting for my daughter's order. When the server brought it back, it was covered in tomato salsa again!!!! No bueno."

  • "The atmosphere, service and food were excellent. One of the guest had to wait a bit longer for her meal due to an error on the food preparation. However, the restaurant compensated the delay with an amazing huge complimentary dessert......unbelievable. This restaurant deserves the outstanding recognition for the best customer service."

  • "Even with a reservation we had to wait. The noise level was very loud."

  • "Food was decent, not as good as in honolulu. service was ok though the waiter seemed awkward and didnt stop at our table much. great views of the ocean."

  • "Our waiter was the greatest! He was so personable, attentive, helpful, etc. etc. etc. The food was excellent too! The window seat was directly next to the window and we watched the waves break on the rocks as we ate our lunch."

  • "The dining experience at Duke's never disappoints. The fish was prepared excellently and the Mai Tais are the BEST!.. Great service, great view, great food - - can't go wrong."

  • "My family chose Duke's Malibu Sunday Brunch to celebrate my husband's birthday. And boy, are we pleased with our choice. The Buffet selections were numerous, varied and delicious. I would most assuredly recommend the experience. Duke's is a beautiful, bright restaraunt with a whole bank of windows looking out on spectacular ocean views. Service was excellent. Again, overall a memorable experience."

  • " Very hot and uncomfortable... I specifically noted in my reservation that we were celebrating a birthday. Also requested a window table and was told we had to wait an additional 30 (to our reservation time)"

  • "Have been here before many years ago. It was lacking its luster and Hawaiian ambiance that I was expecting. My server was not excited to serve and hard to hear when he cautiously recited the specials. The windows which are the highlight were dirty and it has been lower tides for weeks know. The menus sticky and old and no Hawaiian music. Lighting was dark. Server uniforms were dirty and wrinkled. Long wait for food. My ahi was good though but did not unstand pairing it with Mexican sliced papaya which was just plain papaya and very crunchy jasmine rice. Ahi again was good with wasabi sauce. I dunno it was just okay for five star pricing."

  • "I have long enjoyed having lunch at Duke's and have been there with a number of friends. One of the on-going jokes has been with the girls at the reception desk regarding whether or not the "dolphin machine" was working. This time I carried that conversation over to our server, Joe, who said that it was not all that unusual to see them which I seriously doubted. A little later during our lunch Joe came by and said "Look out there at about 12 o'clock" and sure enough there were perhaps 6 or 8 playing just beyond the kelp bed. It was special and added a great dimension to the enjoyment of our lunch. Duke's is a great place for lunch that is only made better by the great fun loving employees that make each time special. • "On the water was always great, but menu now is better from my perspective. Had the coconut shrimp to start - five good size shrimp with nice dipping sauce. then had black garlic preparation for sea bass - flaky and tasty. TS can sometimes get stuck in rut, but this outing was great - but would avoid the upside down cake - little too much and too dense."

  • "Nothing really notable to forth here, great view, decent food and very pricey. A typical Malibu restaurant."

  • "This is a reasonably priced restaurant that has an A+ view of the ocean. The "team" service concept did not work well for us. Twide asked the "B" waiter to bring us more bread. The second time he said it was being baked. It never came. All-in-all pretty good experience."

  • "Our go-to restaurant on the beach; unpretentious and a great view of the surf, which can splash against the windows. The food is good, service friendly. The Barefoot Bar has a smaller menu and the outdoor patio a beachy ambience."

  • "great experience with the waves crashing almost onto the windows! Make sure you come before sunset or the fun of the exdperience will be lost... We had our 5 year old with us and she loved it, and the kids menu was adequate. Food was good - not spectacular but still a great meal."

  • "I would definetley come back to Duke's! There's a view no matter where you sit. Luckily they seated us by a window :) The server was friendly and the food was really good and we didn't wait so long for it to come out."

  • "I have been to Dukes on several occasions and have always enjoyed the service as well as the food. When I visited this time however, I would have to say that I was let down—mostly by the service of our waiter, but also because of menu selections. I still think the restaurant is a great place to go and would suggest it to my friends."

  • "We requested a table by the window when making the reservation for our party of 8 and were pleasantly surprised they actually accommodated us (since most reservations with a party that big usually can't). The food was delicious for the brunch buffet, but I've actually seen more options for a better price in other establishments. My only other complaint was that our waitress did not check on us that often which made waiting for refills a bit of a nuisance. Other than that, a very pleasant experience!"

  • "We were celebrating with an elderly mother who loves the seaside. Duke's was fabulously accommodating, ensuring we got a table with a perfect view of the ocean. Our waiter (and the others at surrounding tables) were upbeat & friendly. Duke's was packed on a holiday weekend, with lots of birthdays & other celebratory groups around us. This is not a quiet, sophisticated, low-key seaside setting (of which there are many choices in Malibu). This is a family-fun, relaxed, slightly kitschy, casual ambience. The appetizers were our favorite part of the meal. We plan to return and just order a full meal of appetizers. The best sweet potato fries we've ever had. Mom loved the old-fashioned signature ice cream pie -- big enough to feed all of us."

  • "Had a nice lunch there over a holiday weekend. Glad I made a reservation because it would have been a long wait otherwise. Food was average...nothing bad, but nothing notable either. But it was a great view, fun place and a good overall experience."

  • "We made our reservation via phone. It was really busy, busy. We were seated at our table within 5 minutes of our arrival time. The hostess was friendly and helpful. Our waiter was friendly, helpful, efficient and seemed totally there for us. I saw him at other tables and that was the way he was. We particularly like the appetizers - we ordered two and a lemonade and a volcano. It was all totally fantastic!! And then we had the hula pie, with fudge on the side. We left feeling special, wonderfully full and happy."

  • "We love going to Duke's! We brought some out of town guests there and they loved the food, the view and the wine list. One person in our party is a wine connoisseur and was thrilled to find a wine that he says is rarely on menus. We made our reservation in advance, had to change the number of persons later and requested a view table. All this was accommodated perfectly. We couldn't ask for more."

  • "The restaurant was delicious and had a great view our waiter kiristina (I believe was her name)... Was very sweet and very nice. And the valet was quick considering that a vehicle in front of us was holding up the line because his battery died. The handled the situation quickly. Is definitely come back. Please make one big menu... With all!!!! Your entrees. More visible food equals more business. Before my sister told me they had MORE menus based on where u sit; I was ready to write a negative review...."

  • "Duke's is a favorite of ours. Watching the sunset over the ocean is gorgeous. Food, especially the fish is excellent. They cater for a gluten free diet. They make great tropical drinks! The waiters are both friendly and efficient. We prefer the "Bowling Alley" section as it is away from the bar area and much quieter for a romantic evening meal. The atmosphere makes you feel as though you are in Hawaii!"

  • "Food, view and service was outstanding. Fish dishes are outstanding and varied. But the menu could use a couple more non fish entrees."

  • "What a fun and romantic place to grab a bite with your special loved one. What's better than sitting right up along the coastal rocks, viewing the ocean, and having ocean waves splashing up on the window right by your table. Great view, experience, service, and food especially when you're with the gal of your dreams."

  • "I came here for the view and on a friend recommendation. It is a Hawaiian themed restaurant, so heavy on the coconut and shrimp. I did like that they used local seafood. The only issue I had was that there were a lot of ingredients per dish with not a lot of room for substitution. It was difficult for a picky eater to eat here. Often there were multiple sauces on the same plate and the sauces were in pretty large portions. If the menu were a little bit more simple, it would have been ideal. The service was excellent!"

  • "The food was good however I did get a large fish scale in my main meal! The service was poor - we didn't get to hear any specials, didn't get a chance to point out the fish scale, he flitted to our table so briefly that we didn't have an opportunity to order a wine with our entree, he slapped down the dessert menu and didn't wait to hear if we wanted anything. One and only time in USA we decided not to tip. Perhaps the waiter thinks Australians are not great tippers and decided not to bother."

  • "I am becoming more & more disinchanted with Duke's Malibu. Being charged for parking after spending more that $100 for a dinner that consisted of 3 sour dough roles, a piece of halibut, a scoop of rice! Parking raised to $5. $8-$9 for 4 oz glass of mediocre wine. A young waiter was "disinterested", at best; boarding on rude. And, when I asked a female host to move us to a different table because the waves were almost hitting the window, she looked at me like I was crazy; and offered to close the window. I honestly don't believe I will return. There are too many restaurants less expensive, food that is just as good or better, that don't charge for parking and that are closer than a 50 minute drive to reach. What has happened to Duke's?"
