  • "My mother-in-law to be was here from Ohio for Easter and had never been to the beach in Malibu. We took her to Duke's which has always been one of our favorite places. HOWEVER, when I made the reservations I was not aware that this time slot was for "brunch" nor was I aware that 15 minutes after we were seated, the food service was stopped. I requested that we be allowed to order off the menu and the answer was no. We went to the food tables which were almost empty. All of the plates were dirty. After I picked up four plates, all of which were dirty, some with food on them still, I lost my appetite. "

  • "We have visited both the Huntington Beach and Malibu DUKE'S, always great food and good service. Make reservations as Sunday Brunch is typically packed, but worth it."

  • "Very busy as it was Easter, waiter seemed a bit "tired". Ran out of halibut."

  • "First time ever at Dukes on Easter . Ate in Dining Room . Service was ok since it was so busy. The view was the best. The food just ok. One of our party's food was cold upon delivery so we had it sent back which meant the rest of the family are dinner while said party waited . It arrived when all others were done. The manager showed and was so nice and apologized with chomping the late meal. That was so appreciated. I would go again and try it on a non holiday outing . Overall it was ok "

  • "Duke's is always a special place for us to go when we want to celebrate a birthday or anniversary. After living in Hawaii for a few years, it brings back our love for Hawaii. We love the view, the Hawaiian decor and the live Hawaiian music. It's casual atmosphere is perfect for a nice get-a-way. "

  • "Food is terrific here - not cheap but worth it. For special occasions this place is a Gem, so scenic. Can sometimes be a bit noisy and crowded (especially on the weekends and during seasonal high travel periods) but the staff will certainly treat you right - so any negatives are forgotten. This place is wonderful for that "being on vacation feel", even if your local. If you're looking for a cheaper option hit their "Barefoot Bar" and engage in some wonderful bar food and drink."

  • "Hadn't been to this location since it was the Sea Lion. So glad we decided on Dukes. Travis, our server was amazing and so attentive and the food was incredible. Thank you for making our Anniversary a very special one Dukes. "

  • "Duke's serves fairly standard food with sometimes slow service, but it's really all about the view. Dukes has a prime perch in Malibu overlooking the Pacific, and unlike some of the other restaurants in the area, doesn't charge obscene prices, so it's a great place to take out of town guests who are fine with fare that's best described as upscale TGI Fridays or Applebees. If you know what you're getting into with Duke's, it can be a wonderful place for lunch or dinner."

  • "We went for our 18th anniversary. Staff knew this and acknowledged it. Great view of ocean but a little bright at the time due to sun setting and ocean reflection, I have sensitive eyes to light. Food was very good but only a step or two above say a Red Lobster. Great music being played but not too loud. Overall a place I was happy to be at. A great mix of people. Average cars in parking lot, motorcycles up to a Rolls Royce and Ferrari but everyone is down to earth."

  • "My wife an I ordered steaks. They were ok. A little chewy. The potatoes were a bit cold as were the cooked carrots. The carrots were lathered up in a Hawaiian style teriyaki sauce. In fact everything on the plate tasted like it had teriyaki sauce on it. The kids meals were very basic as well. I've been to various Dukes restaurants many times. I've never thought of them as a place fit for foodies, but this location I don't think I could recommend to a non-foodie. There are way too many good places to eat in Malibu. The view was of course beautiful."

  • "Fantastic views of the ocean, excellent choices for food and a festive atmosphere makes Duke's a great place for lunch with family. Although we waited a bit, even with a reservation, we were seated at a table with an ocean view. The server was very nice although it took him a while to take our order, bring our check, and complete the transaction. If you're not pressed for time, this place takes their "island time" attitude seriously and no one is in a real hurry; although it is very busy. Last thing that I thought was strange was that we were charged for dessert even though we were celebrating a birthday. I'm used to an establishment providing this for free but I understand this as it was a very large piece of dessert."

  • "The hubs and I were able to snag a window seat off the main dining room and watch the sunset as we enjoyed our amazing dinner. Such a great place to take your time, have great conversation, good wine and amazing food. My steak was so tender! We loved the coconut shrimp too!"

  • "Nice vegetarian dish (wish there was more than one vegetarian entree!) Amazing sea food assortment for my date. Nice waiter. Slow service in the beginning due to being a little short staffed with a large party, but after the longer than avg. wait for service all was well. We asked for a table by the window and one was reserved for us."

  • "Very good restaurant that doesn't overcook the fish, beautiful view of the ocean, there are hardly any bad seats in this place. Had a hard time getting a table along the window despite making reservations, but that may have also been my bad timing. Better check time for sunset next time."

  • "A small party of 3 came to celebrate a birthday. We had a reservation through Open Table and although, we requested a window seat, we were asked if we wouldn't mind sitting in a raised booth. No problem because we loved it! More privacy than a window seat and the view was just as wonderful. The service is excellent and the food as well. We are not foodies by any means but we each loved our meals... shrimp cocktail, seafood chower, coconut schrimp, steak, and more...and then, to top it off, they gave us their special Happy Birthday dessert as a surprise - it made our night! It's not a fancy place; you can be totally casual which was fine with us. This is a great find although we know it's been there forever!"

  • "Food here is usually great & reasonable but this past weekend, we went for lunch on Sunday and the only option was their brunch. We had out of town guests and wanted them to experience the wonderful food. Unfortunately, they were treated to 50 kinds of eggs and a couple other non-egg items for $27. What a rip off. I was so disappointed. I've been here several times and was really looking forward to it. I'll probably go back, just not on a Sunday afternoon."

  • "Great food and service. Duke's offers a variety of exotic fish you won't find at other sea food restaurants and all tables have a view of the ocean. Outstanding dining experience."

  • "If you like fresh fish and seafood dishes with scenic view than go to Duke's! On weekends it's very crowded and loud and you need to make a reservation. Unfortunately they do not confirm reservations when you ask for beach front tables - too bad when you plan a romantic dinner at sunset :(. Overall fantastic food!"

  • "After going back and forth about where to go for a bachelorette party...we decided on Dukes. And let me tell you...BEST DECISION EVER! This place was perfect! Our server was fantastic, she even made sure there was an entourage of men out to bring out our food...like one server per person to bring out our entrees! It was amazing! The food was fantastic and the prices...we were blown away! We had a bunch of appetizers, two rounds of drinks and entrees, for 7 people and it was about $300!!! IN MALIBU ON THE WATER! The service...WOW the service! Like I mentioned before our waitress was amazing! She heard it was a bachelorette and was having a ball with us. We even made her take a picture with us before we left...it was FANTASTIC!"

  • "We arrived early and went to the bar. The bartender made note of our arrival and upon seeing our daughter's license, wished her happy birthday (saw her later and wished it again!). Unfortunately, our waiter was not as in tune and didn't ask if we were there to 'celebrate anything special tonight?' We watched as people seated after us were served before us, had enthusiastic exchanges with their waiter and then left before us. After we finished dinner, he asked if there would be anything else. I answered, I don't know ~ what's on the dessert menu? Really? I had to ASK for a dessert menu? Valet ~ great! Hostesses ~ great! Bartender ~ awesome! Waiter ~ thanks anyway."

  • "An "easy going" restaurant with reasonably priced menu and a beautiful ocean view. I couldn't asked for more. It was my boyfriend's first time and he/we had an enjoyable experience. Our waiter Jake was great; we had a good time being served by him."

  • "The service was terrible, our server didn't even come up to ask us how our food was once we got it, she seemed like she wanted to flip her table. Three of us ordered burgers which were all over cooked."

  • "We celebrated our son and daughter-in-law's first anniversary at Duke's. The service is friendly and thorough, definitely not rushed. Everyone responds courteously and promptly to requests. Because we live far away, and because the a la carte ordering gets a bit pricey, we keep Duke's for special occasions. The wine list was not extensive but I was pleased to find winemakers represented that are not the available-in-all-supermarkets type. Three of us ordered a fish entree, one a steak, all prepared with a fresh taste, including the side dishes. Because we said (when asked by our server) that we were celebrating the anniversary, a complimentary serving of Hula Pie to share was delivered to our table. All delicious and appreciated."
