Diner Reviews
  • "Because it is pricey, we don't go to Due Mari often. But when we do, we're always reminded why it's our favorite. The food is amazing. I still get the same entree because it is so darned good! The prix fixe menu is a lot of food for a reasonable price -- even my college-age son, a picky eater, finds plenty to eat and love here. I told our waiter which bottle of wine we wanted (a California Chardonnay I'd had before), the sommelier made a beeline for the table, lecturing me about the type of white it was and tryting to persuade me to pick an Italian wine he preferred. I told him no, he walked away without another word, and he seemed a bit chilly the rest of the night when pouring our wine. Luckily, this is not the service norm here."

  • "I took a friend for her birthday and found this spot to be quite nice. We enjoyed everything about this restaurant. The service was good. (A particularly attentive busboy who knew how to bus...not grabbing things but very well mannered service...always there at appropriate times....seemed exceptional as I rarely notice this service.) The food was tasty, flavorful, and attractively presented. The dessert scrumptious and unique. A rectangle of chocolate presented with Happy Birthday across it was a nice touch. We enjoyed the evening and will surely return."

  • "Party of 3 Sunday evening 3/30/14 for a birthday celebration. Lovely setting for a special occasion. Music was contemporary which was a nice touch. Did not have Prix Fixe $58 dinner owing to late hour. We had plenty of food. Food: * Excellent: bread with herb butter, RUCOLA salad, polenta appetizer, gnocchi with butternut squash, chianti classico red wine * Very good, not perfect: Steak (cooked as-ordered, would have benefited from flavors ex. caramelized onion or herbs) * Good, needs improvement: (special) monk fish with swiss chard. Fish was fresh but overcooked, liquidy sauce not flavorful Service: * overall excellent except some confusion about clearing plates (repeat visits, 2 of us said to take our plates but didn't happen)"

  • "Went to Due Mari for the first time several weeks ago and loved it. Went back with another couple Last weekend and again, the food was incredible. My new favorite place!"

  • "We are foodies and go to upper scale restaurants in Philadelphia & NYC. This restaurant was so overpriced and the food was barely adaquit. Small potions even for a trendy upscale place. The entrees came out just warm, and very bland. Service was good, restaurant was pretty but will not go back or recommend to anyone."

  • "I was recently at Due Mari entertaining a business colleague and it was a very nice experience. We enjoyed a bottle of wine, and both had the gnocci and salmon. The gnocci was very good and the half portion was perfect as an appetizer. The salmon was good, but was a tad fishy for my taste. What stood out for me was the excellent service. Our server applied the perfect balance of letting us linger and attentiveness. I would recommend this restaurant for business or romantic dinners."

  • "Went with three friends and everyone enjoyed it immensely. Excellent food and service. It is not cheap, certainly, but I think it is worth it. Looking forward to going back."

  • "Great food , small portions. I would defiantly recommend the teasing menus . We thought it would be too much food. Next time I will get the four courses. Nice bar, floor to ceiling windows in the dining room."

  • "First time at Due Mari will definitely be back. Had the arancini - fabulous, filet mignon and gnocchi....all exceptional. Rivals Nicholas in Red Bank - actually I think I like it better. The only surprise was that two guests had the tiramisu and both said it was mediocre... can't wait to go back. Next night we went to Dominnick's in the Bronx and boy what a disappointment after eating at Due Mari.....Due Mari is an upscale restaurant in decor and food...a gem!"

  • "While the wine list is short it leans heavily on Italian wines that are very reasonalby priced, some very good wine values. The food (primarily sea food here) was very good, great presentation, and a polished youthful staff."

  • "The food at the Due was good. Wait staff need to understand the ideas of being invisible and quit pushing the "better price" menu. The wine was okay, the noise level was a bit much. The pasta was nice and the sauce was good."

  • "I was in last night (3/11) and had a great time with my wife. We didn't feel rushed, our server explained anything we needed to, and the food was wonderful. I would and have recommended Due Mari 100 times over."

  • "Nice place, a short walk to the theaters. We went with the 4 course prefix arrangement, a nice setup. We started with an excellent Grilled octupus as well as the seafood salad for apps (please note, these dishes will all have Italian names,) We then split a 1/2 dz oysters which were really fresh and tasty. Then to the the pasta, fresh made, excellent, we had the bolenguse and the garmigma ? (The seafood one) I know and love my seafood but both pasta,s were excellent. Onto the entrée,the fish stew was really nice and we also had the bronzina which was excellent, but I like the whole fish version. Oh yeah the little bread was really good also,we split a tiamizzu good coffee"

  • "I chose Due Mari for a business/friend lunch. We had a great table. The waiter was attentive and the menu was both enticing and adventurous. Best of all the waiter didn't hurry us since we had much catching up to do. A pleasure to be able to sit in a beautiful environment with good food and the time to enjoy the company of friends."

  • "This was not our first time at Due Mari. As with our previous visit, we came to celebrate a family event and we were looking forward to a great evening. The staff was very courteous and accommodating. The sommelier was knowledgable and helpful with the wine list. The letdown was in the menu choices; much more limited from the previous time we went. The online menu is substantially different than the menu presented at the table. Appetizers were good as was the mushroom rigatoni. The shrimp were very salty, clearly there was a slip of the salt shaker. Portion sizes were small, but I thought, that's ok, I can cheat when I have dessert. As much as I was looking forward to dessert, the dessert menu was lackluster."

The food was delicious, the staff was very attentive, and the atmosphere was beautiful and cozy. We will definitely go to Due Mari again for a romantic dinner or another special occasion."

  • "The service was very good and the food was above average although the menu was limited. Overall a descent place to go out to and worth a try."

  • "Very enjoyable evening. Every dish prepared just right - fish, pasta, dessert. Portions moderate size so not place to go if you expect to take food home as at some Italian restaurants. Service friendly and efficient. Dinner for 4 with 3 glasses wine, appetizers, and dessert $240 plus tip."

  • "Excellent, from food to service. Priced appropriately. Their senior bar tender Tony is not to be missed. He is a master mixologist and will compliment your meal with his tasty treats."

  • "One of our best pasta meals in all of New Jersey. Make sure you get 2 half portions of the different pasta courses so you can taste more of the pasta dishes and don't waste room in your stomach on the other courses. It was a great dining experience."

  • "Been to restaurant for lunch twice and dinner once. Enjoyed all 3 experiences. Relaxed atmoshere including service. Especially enjoy the pasta dishes including agnolotti and cappelletti and butternut squash based soup."

  • "The prix fixe meny for Valentines day looked great, but we both ended up going with things on the a la carte menu. Everything was spectacular! The wine menu was impressive, and they gave great recommendations. I will definitely be returning!"

  • "The food at Due Mari's was delicious, We were a little disappointed in the desert We were so looking forward to the desert fondue but were told they do not do that anymore. That was one of the reason we really wanted to go there. But I ordered the lobster and shrimp pasta which was out of this world. So all was still good. It is very expensive so I would only go for a special occasion."

  • "Had such a great time at dinner that we didn't realize that we were there for over 3 hours - where did the time go? (It should be noted that the restaurant was not crowded, so it was not like the table needed to be turned over.) The wait staff was there at the right times. The food was beyond delicious. (A little on the pricey side.) Would definitely go back."

  • "We had to stay 1 night in New Brunswick and are happy we chose to et here. There are 4 - 5 good restaurants in the area which is nice and in 2 days we ate at them all. This was prob our favorite because of the homemade pasta dishes we chose. The gnocchi and short rib ravioli were terrific, service was great as well."
