We were 4 couples of which 2 pers ordered Whole Snapper at $42.50 each. Presentation very nice where the plate has a big whole snapper skeleton fried from head to tail and the fish meat is around it. The quantity of the fish meat has nothing to do with the size of the fish. I believe the meat of one fish was distributed to a minimum of two orders. This was a real farce not to mention that the waiter mentioned that this plate is good for 2 pers!!

Tom Yum soup was good. They were out of curry puffs which I wanted to try and I wasn't told until I ordered them. MY husband's sushi was good. Based on others reviews I was prepared to experience poor service. It was very good up until the end when we had to wait a long time for them to pick up our credit card for the check - not sure why. Our waitress disappeared. The night we were there was very noisy with two parties having babies (does not seem like that kind of restaurant to me) but a caution to those who like quiet places that this is not one.

  • VERY INVENTIVE SUSHI

Their menu varies from Thai to Sushi. The evening we dined there, our interest was definitely on the sushi. They have some very special inventive rolls, which are larger than the average sushi roll - so don't order too much. We were on our way to the theater, so didn't want to eat too 'heavy'. I ordered the Sexy Woman Roll and my husband, Buco Bob Roll. Both were expertly prepared, beautifully presented and delicious. In fact, if you visit their webpage, I'm sure all the pictures of the food will make you want to go there. The servers were very attentive and the sushi chef very friendly. I'd defintely recommend a trip to the Drunken Poet when visiting Sarasota.

we've been there before and enoyed it. This time the service was very mediocre and it wasn't a busy night. We ordered a plate and the wrong one arrived - it was confusion between our guest and the server. The server argued with us that we had to take this plate since we ordered it. we didn't we wanted another dish and she fought with us. disappointing

We had heard great things so we were eager to eat here. The sushi was mediocre at best. The Green curry was bad! Like Spoiled! On the positive side the service was great. It was a fun outdoor scene and it was dog friendly. I hope we just caught them on a bad food night!

Chose Drunken Poet's Café because it was fairly close to the Opera House. Next time we will choose it because of the superior food & great service we experienced. THE best Pad Thai ever!!! All the food was wonderful, presentation was exquisite. Our reservation was honored immediately (they actually saved our table on a busy Saturday night !!!). Waitstaff was great, they seem to work as a team rather than individually. We will definitely be back. Ed & Kay

Food was okay but we had a poor beginning. The table we had did not have the previous food wiped off and I had to ask the waitress to do get a rag and wipe it off. Then when my drink came the glass was sticky on the outside. The food arrived and was okay, but didn't seem to have the flavors we've had there before. My wife's vegetarian option was mostly onions and celery. We're hoping it was an off night. The waitress, Carol, did a nice job all things considered.

Our waiter was really nice and the service was fast. Now, the food was the best. We had the sexy man roll and if they have it in their specials list please get it. We only had sushi but it was delicious! Nothing too fancy but great for a casual night with family or friends. I'll come back for sure!

The sushi rolls are imaginative with very fresh fish and vegetables. A favorite of mine as there are so many choices that everyone can find something they like - and what you don't like, the chef will leave out for you.

The food is extraordinary, however, this time, my entree came to me cold. It had obviously by sitting out waiting for the appetizers to finish. I also think that the waiter forgot to get my entree. I also noticed that the same thing happened to the table next to me. On my way back from the ladies room, I noticed an entree waiting to be picked up. I kept my eye on its progress. It sat there for a good 10 minutes before it was served. This is an unfortunate practice and needs to change because this restaurant is way to good to let something like that destroy its reputation. Get the entree on the table when its ready, whether the appetizers are finished or not.

We were disappointed. Read a lot of good reviews on trip advisor, but ... of all the places we have had sushi in the Sarasota area, so far ... this has been the worst. The tempura battered items tasted burned, there was not a lot of the fish, the service was slower than it should have been. We waited a long time to get our check when we were ready to go and saw other tables get up and go to the desk to get their waiter to bring their check to them. We can't see going back with so many better sushi restaurants. We know they have Thai food, which we did not try, so we can't speak to that. We went for the sushi.

Well, after all the great reviews, and particul;arly the one about the "best" pad thai, we decided to try this place. Since we have access to great Thai food in Rhode Island, this place was "just OK", nothing special. Service was fine( a lot of complaints about that), but we did hit this place with a loud party of 6 and we could barely hear ourselves across the table. We noted the couple closest this LOUD table were moved. Nothing to do about that, it was a birthday celebration of sorts. I think the Sushi looked better than our order, although my salmon dish (dry salmon) was a "special" and the Pad Thai with chicken was tasty the chicken was dry. And forget about the shrimp spring rolls, they were awlful.

Interesting evening at this restaurant. After some confusion regarding our reservation we were seated on a busy evening and had a very tasty meal. This is a very busy restaurant, so do make a reservation on weekends and expect it to be crowded and noisy and for wait times to be lengthy.

Don't let the look of Drunken Poet Cafe fool you as it is a bit funky, East NY Village and not haute decor. The menu is huge, again between that and all the blackbaords, what do you eat? Our service was great and our server encouraged us to try things and made everything sound so appealing. We were 3 diners on a Friday evening, determined to try and share and we were beyond pleased with each of our choices. We mostly did small plates and 1 roll and each dish was better and more delicious than the previous one. 3 very satified, new customers and ready to go back to try more selections. Loved Drunken Poet!

We sat outside on the sidewalk - which might be a bit noisy if the street had been busier. Wonderful service, with careful explanations of how hot the Thai food could be. Our lobster roll appetizer was a work of art & delicious - enough for the 4 of us to share. Will definitely be going back!!!
