Diner Reviews
  • "Service was poor, slow. It was not overly busy, however, server took almost 20 minutes to bring water/beverages. Appetizers made it out before drinks. Food was okay, perhaps somewhat over rated. I'll continue to look for the better sushi in the KC area."

  • "The food was great and very reasonable. The cheesecake/pastry w/ strawberries (or whatever it was -- can't remember exact name) was to die for."

  • "My husband and I have a favorite sushi restaurant, and I haven't found anything that has come close to comparison........until my sister and I went and ate at Drunken Fish. The best silly named cocktails.....try the Tokyo Tease! Their lobster spring rolls were to die for. And their sushi was excellent. It was super fresh, light, and tasty. Ok, for real, no matter how full you are....try the strawberry cheesecake makimono........WOW! Overall great experience. Chill environment. Would recommend to others and can't wait to go back!"

  • "Took my girlfriend here for her first Drunken Fish experience. She absolutely loved it, as did I, as always. Thank you Drunken Fish Downtown Kansas City for an amazing dinner experience."

  • "Amazing food, drinks, atmosphere. We didn't even spend nearly as much as I would have imagined for being located in PNL. Our waitress was very nice and answered any questions we had. Even gave me an ice water to go :) definitely coming back!"

  • "I love the Drunken Fish happy hour. The prices are great! This particular location takes a little bit longer than the Leawood location. I asked the waitress for a couple of minutes to review the menu. I don't thik she came back for another 10 minutes. Then it took another 20 or so for the food to come. My waitress was also very slow to fill my water. I'm wondering if maybe they're just understaffed. Again, love the food!"

  • "I took the wife for a date because it's been way too long since we had some good sushi and it didn't disappoint. Truly an enjoyable experience on every level. This was our 3rd time here (previous 2 visits were with groups of friends) and I've waited to give a review intentionally since it's tough to get a real feel for a place after only 1 or 2 experiences, whether they've been either positive or negative. After 3 stellar visits, my wife and I are both "all-in" with the Drunken Fish. This place fires on all cylinders."

  • "Out for a delayed Wedding Anniversary and Valentine's Dinner date sans children. Therefore not a chicken nugget in sight. The food was sublime, we picked our own sample of dishes and asked for guidance on the sake. The service was top notch and out waitress fully informed. If you are searching for excellent Japanese, then this is the place!"

  • "The sushi was good, the service was great, however the shrimp entree was quite small and the tempura fried vegetables were just kind of "okay". I like Drunken Fish and will most definitely be back. Just wanted to give you some feedback."

  • "I have been to Drunken Fish many times. I think their sushi is tasty and i love their edamame. They have creative coctails and shots to enjoy as well. Service at the Power and Light location has been average lately. I have been a server before in a busy restaurant so I understand. Overall, a good choice for dinner."

  • "In from out of town, we decided to check out this cool restaurant. We got to sit at an awesome table near the bar. Very upbeat, fun place- good food, neat drinks, and fair prices."

  • "We arrived for our reservation just after 6 pm and there was good crowd of people at tables and the bar but no one waiting to be seated or anything. It took over 10 minutes to receive our drink orders from the bar. We actually received our appetizer before our drinks! The waitress said the bartender was slammed, but in my opinion you plan for those things once happy hour ends. The food was amazing though so I guess it was all worth it in the end! I'll definitely go back."

  • "Friends talked about Drunken Fish until I had to try it. We made reservations and I am glad we did. We were seated immediately and our server (Andrew) made his entrance. Andrew took great care of us, explained how things worked and made sure our experience truly was outstanding. The food was excellent. I would not have told anyone that I was a particular fan of sushi but after dining at The Drunken Fish I would say I am now. Andrew gave us some clues and we figured the rest out to our complete delight. I cannot wait to visit The Drunken Fish again. I have been talking this place up to all of my friends who have not experienced it yet. It is definitely worth the visit!"

  • "Was expecting great sushi, and it just wasn't. Not to mention there were fruit flies buzzing around and the place smelled of stale beer. Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable."

  • "The food was delicious we had the sea bass and the combination stir fry. Our waiter was very accommodating as we had several special requests. I had requested a table by the window or with a view. That was the only problem. The table we received had a great view. However, it happened that our table was in the bar. It was happy hour and the table was near the front door and adjacent to the bar. There were several people standing around our table waiting to be seated and ordering drinks. Other than that I will be making a return visit."

  • "Our food took over and hour to get to our table. People who sat down after us had gotten their food, eaten, and left before we did. It was amazing sushi once it did though. Completely delicious enough to make it all worth it. The place is absolutely lovely, but I'd recommend sitting downstairs. Upstairs echoes terribly. Overall I think this is a good restaurant. Just be careful how you plan your visit."

  • "As always the food was very good and service was excellent. However, on a Saturday evening a reservation is a must. It was disappointing to wait 15-20 minutes with a reservation but I overheard walk-ins that had a wait time of 2-3 hours. I would recommend making a reservation for dinner 2 hours before a sprint center event."

  • "The lighting was not very good for reading of the meau, I took a while for our waiter to take our orders, but once he came (Lance) he gave good service."

  • "Our waitress was Zahra and she was wonderful. She was the perfect mixture of friendly and engaging without being intrusive to our dinner. Anytime my water got close to empty (and I drink a LOT of water) a gentleman was always immediately there refilling it. The sushi was delicious, the Starburst roll was my favorite. Drunken Fish is more of a special occassion place for me because it is quite pricey-although I will say their rolls have more pieces(10-14) than the average sushi roll(6-8). We had a Groupon so that knocked $25 off of the bill. We interracted with the manager and he was incredibly pleasant as well-he came by our table just to check on us and again to accept the Groupon."

  • "We went to the Drunken Fish for Valentines Day. We had a reservation but were late due to traffic. They still got us right in. The Valentine's special was a great deal! I'm not a sushi lover but my husband is and there were options for both of us. Everything we had was delicious. We didn't get our appetizer until after our entree and service was slow but friendly. My key lime pie martini was also a highlight:). Overall , good experience."

  • "Exceptional is the only way to describe my dining experience at Drunken Fish. Every aspect of the evening was fantastic and I highly recommend this restaurant to those who LOVE sushi."

  • "I took my fiance for Valentine's Day as the start to a romantic evening. Had a reservation for 8:45. Arrived at 8:40. Had to wait for 20min while people were sat before us. Including couples that arrived after us. Finally we were sat at a table on the main floor next to a party of 8... Despite making requests to be sat upstairs where it was quieter. We had to spur at times just to hear each other. I complained to the hostess and she said there was no seating available upstairs. Even though I watched as couples got say upstairs all night. Server was Ok. Communication needed work. Couldn't answer many menu questions we had. At 10 they shut down threw lights and we dined by candle light. So that was nice. Food was good, as always."

  • "Was our first time at Drunken Fish. Atmosphere is very noisy compared to other Sushi restaurants we have been to. Took 20 minutes to receive our drinks from the bar after ordering and took 45 minutes to receive our food after ordering. Having said that, the Sushi was excellent, fresh, and well prepared. Not sure we will return."

  • "The service and atmosphere was amazing. My husband and I shared a romantic diner there. Our waitress was knowledgeable and suggested the perfect entrees. Can't say enough."

  • "They need to work on the reservation system, they are good at taking the reservation but not on having the reservation available at the time. We had to wait 25 minutes to be seated. We made the reservation the time we requested as we had another commitment and we were late as a result of the table not being ready when we had reservations."
    Dined on 2/15/2014
  • "The hostess staff was VERY unorganized and it did not seem as if they knew what was going on. We waited about 20 minutes even with a reservation. There were fairly nice surroundings other than the large TV with the basketball game on. It was Valentines day so we really didn't need the sports bar ambiance. The lobster spring roll appetizer was extremely good and the wasabi honey dipping sauce was as well. We tried a variety of rolls(ordered yellow tail nigiri but they forgot it), and they were OK and reasonably priced, but we risked trying the philly cheese steak roll and it was awful. We thought we would close out the night with the fried bananas and that was the biggest mistake. Tasted like mashed baby food that had been deep fried."

  • "It was our first time eating at Drunkin Fish. We had an early reservation. We weren't super exciting about the seating, for a "reserved table" we were given a high top table next to the bar that was made for sipping drinks. The service was great our waitress was very nice and patient with us since this was our first experience at this restaurant we really took our time to look over the menu and she didn't seem to mind and was very helpful when we had questions. The food wasn't the most amazing, however it was pretty good and we liked their spin on certain sushi items. My only complaint was the bathrooms. Both times I used the women's restroom it was dirty. And we had gotten there shortly after opening and felt it should have been cleaner."

  • "Last minute decision to go KC for Valentines Day. We were able to get a late reservation. We enjoyed the scean at Power and Light before dinner despite the freezing temps. At dinner the only draw back was they were about 30 minutes behind in seating us for our resuvation. The food was amazing the Spicey Eskimo and White Tiger rolls were off the chart amazing. Overall a great night!"

  • "This place has the ambience of a night club and is supposed to be a restuarant. Choose one or the other...not both! We had to wait 30 minutes for a server to come to the table. Ridiculous."

  • "We enjoyed eating at the Drunken Fish and will return again, soon. The Sushi Mango Roll was outstanding. We also order the Shrimp Fried Rice, done very well; and the Shrimp Tempura. The Tempura came out tasting very salty. A manager happened to stop by and took care redoing the order. It was done quickly and the second try was was very good. Our server, Erin was exceptional. She took care of our every need and treated us like we were her own family. We are looking forward to our next trip."
