Diner Reviews
  • "I took a group of ladies here for a friends birthday. Within minutes of being seated a waiter dumped an entire tray of waters onto my back completely soaking my hair, outfit and handbag. The waiter apologized and scurried off and we never saw him again. I ran to the bathroom and when I returned there was another waiter taking our drink order. I requested to speak to a manager about the incident and After receiving apps and drinks (about an hour later) the very rude unapologetic manager shows up and says "well what do you want me to do give you more napkins?" I explained to him that I've had better service at Applebee's and I couldn't believe a MANAGER of all people would represent a company this way. He left without resolution!"

  • "Great atmosphere; great food; service was initially a little slow, we sat for about 10 minutes before anyone took our order."

  • "Our favorite rolls are the Spicy Eskimo and the Starburst. The Gyoza are also delicious. Service is usually very good, but we were disappointed in our waitress the last time we were there, which is why service is rated as good. Hopefully she was just having an off day, because we definitely enjoy the food here."

  • "Fantastic selection of rolls, although a fair majority of them have some form of tempura in them. Our server was fantastic and we can't say enough great things about him. A great people-watching spot, especially if you are on the patio, and an even better place to kick off your night in P&L or the other jazz clubs/live music venues in the area. We will definitely return."

  • "Had a great dinner the food was awesome. After we had finished out waitress took about an hour to bring our check and for us to pay and leave up to that point everything was perfect. But after the food was finished we were forgotten..."

  • "We come here quite a bit. I won't lie though: a big reason is because of the location. There are so many inconsistencies to this place. We've actually decided we like the one in Leawood FAR better. I ordered sashimi in both locations, and the Leawood location's cuts were almost twice as big. The rolls are sometimes too sloppy here. Part of eating sushi is the beauty of the plate. It's up and down here yet the Leawood location is always beautiful. We have started to go to Nara more. Several of our friends have had the same experience. If someone else opens a good sushi place in the downtown area, Drunken Fish will be in trouble."

  • "We sat outside this time which was much quieter and private. Food was outstanding as always. Our server anutaya was wonderful! We tried some different dishes this time and they were really good. The yellow tuna in ponzu and the baked muscles were divine!"

  • "Every single Time I go to drunken fish the staff is outstanding, the food is delicious, and the manager checks on our table! Can't get better service! My #1 choice for sushi in KC!"

  • "I love the St. Louis Drunken Fish. This one seemed a little un-kept. The menu was over priced and boring. The server was sweet and attentive. The drinks were good and the noodle bowl was awesome. Too little for too much $$$"

  • "Made a reservation 2 weeks in advance to grab before a concert. Showed up and got seated on time order or drinks and food immediately and was told we would get it in time. Took 25 min. For our wine to get to our table and then waited another thirty with no sign of our food, waiter told us it was next up and said he run our cards ahead of time. When he can back with our cards he said he was wrong and the food would be another15 min. Nothing was offered to us for our inconvenience and our order had to be cancelled after waiting an hr."

  • "We went before a concert and were seated right away due to having reservations, but it took 1.5 hrs just to get the drinks we ordered from our waitress, and even longer for the food. The food was great but the food and beverage wait time was ridiculous for a table of 4, and we were late to our concert."

  • "If you haven't been to the Drunkin Fish, you must!! Completely love every location in St. Louis. Visited KC and there is another one. Sooo much to try for everyone. It was my mothers first time trying sushi and she woke up the next morning asking to have more. Keep up the great work!"

  • "Starting with drinks, I had a Mai Tai and my girlfriend had the "Drunken Fish" cocktail. Both were strong, and reasonably priced considering the area. We began with the chicken skewers appetizer, which was tasty but unremarkable. The sushi rolls themselves were good, but not great. I did try one of their "signature" rolls - the Philly Cheesesteak Roll - and was pleasantly surprised. The spicy salmon roll and California roll were average to slightly above average. Dessert was fried banana won-tons with vanilla ice cream. The won-tons had a caramel sauce drizzled on them, but I feel like they were still missing some flavor. Service was friendly, but somewhat slow-paced - be prepared to spend some time savoring your drinks and apps."

  • "The need a little work on their martinis… but its a sushi restaurant so I won't hold that against them. Food was delicious! Staff was delightful!"

  • "The Drunken Fish has a fun, hip decor, decent food and okay service. You won't mistake it for a high-end restaurant, but it is a pretty good version of Midwest sushi. Service was adequate, but like the food not overly impressive. I had sushi, and the fish was fresh and the presentation nice. The construction was lacking in a few notable instances, such as the Ikura, which appeared (by the limp nori) to have been assembled sometime yesterday. The lobster spring rolls were nice, and I heard good things about both the salmon and the sea bass. The only real clunker on the table was my partner's chicken dish, which had been hammered into rubber. Not a bad spot for a pre-concert meal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return."

  • "Food was great. Service was a little off from previous visits, but still can't beat the options for sushi and non sushi lovers. Highly recommend the potstickers and spicy Eskimo roll. Still one of our favorite places to go in KC."

  • "Everything was excellent! The service was great and the Sushi was awesome! Will definitely make this a place to stop every time I come to town."

  • "Three of us went here before a popular show at the nearby Midland. The sushi was really tasty and they have a ton of options. The signature cocktails are varied and interesting! On this night, it was very hot outside and pretty warm inside the restaurant as well. It took awhile before our server got to us but when she did she was friendly and warm, but not overly solicitous. Just right! We ended up having a great meal and were less than a block from our show."

  • "I've dined at Drunken Fish for both lunch and dinner. Each time the service becomes worse - slow and unfriendly. Recently we had to wait 10 minutes and then go find our server just to take our drink order. The food is overpriced for what you receive. $8 for 6 piece cucumber and avocado roll? No thanks. I won't be back."

  • "We went to The Drunken Fish for cocktails and appetizers. We sat outside, the service was great, the food fabulous (ample for dinner), and the ambiance perfect!"

  • "DF has a nice variety of rolls which all seem over-sized and the flavors satisfy as well as the appetizers and soups. Great for couples and a date night."

  • "its just the cost of eating in the power and light district, enjoyed the appetizers, and the service, I might go back, but just for the appetizers."

  • "You could say my husband is new to sushi, but he always finds something he loves here. With fresh ingredients and detailed explanations along with helpful servers there is something for everyone here. It's great for date night and the ambiance never disappoints. Make sure you have a reservation."

  • "This is the third time we have visited this restaurant. The service we received from the bartender and our food server was top-notch. However, once again, the hostessing staff was rude and arrogant in helping us get our table (even though we had a reservation)."

  • "We have eaten at the Drunken Fish in Leawood many times and have always had a great experience. On Saturday night a group of us were going to the Cher concert and decided to have dinner in the Power & Light district before the concert. The food was great, service exceptional and the entire dining experience was a winner. "

  • "We have eaten here several times. It is always loud, but this time was almost unbearable. We had to shout to talk back and forth across the table and had to shout back and forth with the waiter."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "Best part of restaurant is proximity to Sprint Center. If you are going to a show there it is close. Otherwise we would probably pick the Leawood location."

  • "We no longer live in Kansas City, but make it a point to visit whenever we come back. The food is always great and the staff are very professional. This is the restaurant where my fiancé and I went on our first date so I may be a little biased."

  • "The Drunken Fish is a fun place for sushi and drinks. This is our second visit and we times we have sat on the roof. It's a pretty good view and is more laid back and quiet than what we observed in the restaurant (looks fun but noisy, probably great for happy hour). Everyone thought the sushi was really good, the fried rice was not the greatest but wasn't too bad. The Champagne Screw cocktail was YUM!"

  • "Our kids had told us about this place, but we'd somehow managed to miss it since returning home to the area nearly 4 years ago. All I can say is... how could we have missed out on this place for so long?!!!!!!! Having lived in some large, metropolitan areas with great food - including great sushi / sashimi - in other states since moving away many years ago, we've grown fond of Ra as a place to find a consistently good experience for such fare. Have to say, this place is every bit as good as Ra, with maybe a broader menu. Dessert selections were a bit unimaginative, but the main stuff was very good !"
