Diner Reviews
  • "We always eat at Drunken Fish when we are in KC. Wonderful food, service is very pleasant and helpful. Good time as usual. Ginger dressing on salads is AWESOME!!"

  • "Starting with drinks, I had a Mai Tai and my girlfriend had the "Drunken Fish" cocktail. Both were strong, and reasonably priced considering the area. We began with the chicken skewers appetizer, which was tasty but unremarkable. The sushi rolls themselves were good, but not great. I did try one of their "signature" rolls - the Philly Cheesesteak Roll - and was pleasantly surprised. The spicy salmon roll and California roll were average to slightly above average. Dessert was fried banana won-tons with vanilla ice cream. The won-tons had a caramel sauce drizzled on them, but I feel like they were still missing some flavor. Service was friendly, but somewhat slow-paced - be prepared to spend some time savoring your drinks and apps."

  • "The need a little work on their martinis… but its a sushi restaurant so I won't hold that against them. Food was delicious! Staff was delightful!"

  • "We seating immediately and the service and food were excellent."

  • "The Drunken Fish has a fun, hip decor, decent food and okay service. You won't mistake it for a high-end restaurant, but it is a pretty good version of Midwest sushi. Service was adequate, but like the food not overly impressive. I had sushi, and the fish was fresh and the presentation nice. The construction was lacking in a few notable instances, such as the Ikura, which appeared (by the limp nori) to have been assembled sometime yesterday. The lobster spring rolls were nice, and I heard good things about both the salmon and the sea bass. The only real clunker on the table was my partner's chicken dish, which had been hammered into rubber. Not a bad spot for a pre-concert meal, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return."

  • "Love the ambiance and love the sushi! Drinks are top-notch as well. Will definitely be back."

  • "Food was great. Service was a little off from previous visits, but still can't beat the options for sushi and non sushi lovers. Highly recommend the potstickers and spicy Eskimo roll. Still one of our favorite places to go in KC."

  • "Out of wine after selling us first bottle. Service was horrible. Flys everywhere. Never going back."

  • "Everything was excellent! The service was great and the Sushi was awesome! Will definitely make this a place to stop every time I come to town."

  • "Three of us went here before a popular show at the nearby Midland. The sushi was really tasty and they have a ton of options. The signature cocktails are varied and interesting! On this night, it was very hot outside and pretty warm inside the restaurant as well. It took awhile before our server got to us but when she did she was friendly and warm, but not overly solicitous. Just right! We ended up having a great meal and were less than a block from our show."

  • "Excellet food, friendly and knowledgable staff, quick service and nice establishment."
    Dined on 6/19/2014
  • "I've dined at Drunken Fish for both lunch and dinner. Each time the service becomes worse - slow and unfriendly. Recently we had to wait 10 minutes and then go find our server just to take our drink order. The food is overpriced for what you receive. $8 for 6 piece cucumber and avocado roll? No thanks. I won't be back."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Our service was friendly and prompt. The atmosphere was great, and the food was wonderful."
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "We went to The Drunken Fish for cocktails and appetizers. We sat outside, the service was great, the food fabulous (ample for dinner), and the ambiance perfect!"
    Dined on 6/15/2014
  • "DF has a nice variety of rolls which all seem over-sized and the flavors satisfy as well as the appetizers and soups. Great for couples and a date night."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "its just the cost of eating in the power and light district, enjoyed the appetizers, and the service, I might go back, but just for the appetizers."
    Dined on 6/13/2014
  • "Each time we visit we are met with kindness and food exactly the way we remember from the last time.....wonderful! Top notch service and a hip downtown vibe!"

  • "You could say my husband is new to sushi, but he always finds something he loves here. With fresh ingredients and detailed explanations along with helpful servers there is something for everyone here. It's great for date night and the ambiance never disappoints. Make sure you have a reservation."

  • "This is the third time we have visited this restaurant. The service we received from the bartender and our food server was top-notch. However, once again, the hostessing staff was rude and arrogant in helping us get our table (even though we had a reservation)."

  • "We have eaten at the Drunken Fish in Leawood many times and have always had a great experience. On Saturday night a group of us were going to the Cher concert and decided to have dinner in the Power & Light district before the concert. The food was great, service exceptional and the entire dining experience was a winner. "

  • "We have eaten here several times. It is always loud, but this time was almost unbearable. We had to shout to talk back and forth across the table and had to shout back and forth with the waiter."
    Dined on 5/31/2014
  • "Best part of restaurant is proximity to Sprint Center. If you are going to a show there it is close. Otherwise we would probably pick the Leawood location."

  • "We no longer live in Kansas City, but make it a point to visit whenever we come back. The food is always great and the staff are very professional. This is the restaurant where my fiancé and I went on our first date so I may be a little biased."
    Dined on 5/30/2014
  • "The Drunken Fish is a fun place for sushi and drinks. This is our second visit and we times we have sat on the roof. It's a pretty good view and is more laid back and quiet than what we observed in the restaurant (looks fun but noisy, probably great for happy hour). Everyone thought the sushi was really good, the fried rice was not the greatest but wasn't too bad. The Champagne Screw cocktail was YUM!"

  • "Our kids had told us about this place, but we'd somehow managed to miss it since returning home to the area nearly 4 years ago. All I can say is... how could we have missed out on this place for so long?!!!!!!! Having lived in some large, metropolitan areas with great food - including great sushi / sashimi - in other states since moving away many years ago, we've grown fond of Ra as a place to find a consistently good experience for such fare. Have to say, this place is every bit as good as Ra, with maybe a broader menu. Dessert selections were a bit unimaginative, but the main stuff was very good !"

  • "The food was really good. We all ordered different rolls and enjoyed them. It would be nice to know how many pieces each roll will have when ordering. Our waiter, Jeremiah, was great. Super informative and attentive to the table. We were celebrating and he really made our guest of honor feel special. "

  • "Every time I've been the wait staff is fantastic and the sushi is to die for. Love the sushi, the bowl of noodles was alright, and the fried calimari was really good, but definitely go for the sushi."

  • "Nice place to go with friends. Waiter just need to be clear with pricing on certain things and it was hot in the resturant. Bill was confusing. Other wise it was awsome. I will be going back. "

  • "I really like Drunken Fish. When I first moved to KC, I was a little hesitant about trying sushi; but I must say their sushi is pretty good. "

  • "Great place to dine if you are a sushi lover. Atmosphere is quaint and enjoyable. Love going here with friends and family. Plus its close to power n Mk light."

  • "We visited The Drunken Fish again and found the food to be excellent and the service to be as excellent as the food. We dined in the patio area and enjoyed the activity on the street while Andrew took great care of our dining needs. Everyone at the restaurant was friendly and ready to anticipate our needs. We will definitely be back again."

  • "Took a friend here before catching a movie at the Alamo. Great experience, service, food and drinks! I recommend the sexy samari!"

  • "We have dined at drunken fish multiple times and each time have had tasty dinners. I recommend it. When we arrived I indicated open table reservation, they confirmed on their computer, but they failed to indicate this on the reservation. Also I had signed up for their loyalty program raw rewards and they still failed to acknowledge our arrival on the reservation. So I had to send this information to open table after the dinners to get this corrected. They have outdoor dining and I would return to dine outside if it is available."

  • "We come here a lot, but didn't know they had an upper deck. Really fun up there. Huge comfy seats with fireplaces. As always the food was delicious and fresh! Tried a new dish this time of raw fish with hot oil poured over it. Good! Keep it up Drunken Fish!!"

  • "Amazing service and great food! Our server was fantastic and very personable. The happy hour specials are a great price also. "

  • "Service was poor, slow. It was not overly busy, however, server took almost 20 minutes to bring water/beverages. Appetizers made it out before drinks. Food was okay, perhaps somewhat over rated. I'll continue to look for the better sushi in the KC area."

  • "Took my girlfriend here for her first Drunken Fish experience. She absolutely loved it, as did I, as always. Thank you Drunken Fish Downtown Kansas City for an amazing dinner experience."

  • "My husband and I have a favorite sushi restaurant, and I haven't found anything that has come close to comparison........until my sister and I went and ate at Drunken Fish. The best silly named cocktails.....try the Tokyo Tease! Their lobster spring rolls were to die for. And their sushi was excellent. It was super fresh, light, and tasty. Ok, for real, no matter how full you are....try the strawberry cheesecake makimono........WOW! Overall great experience. Chill environment. Would recommend to others and can't wait to go back!"
