Diner Reviews
  • "I had dinner on the patio on Easter with my family. The food was pretty good. I enjoyed the calamari appetizer and the baked mussels along with a Soporro. For dinner we had an assortment of sushi rolls and sashimi and all were pretty good. Our server Mike did an adequate job but could brush up on the menu. All around we had a very nice evening!"

  • "Had reservation & seated immediately. Server was prompt Brought drinks/took order. 20 minutes later no server in sight. Tables around us received dinners. Several minutes later still no food. Finally asked for our check for our drinks. Assured us the order was on its way. After several more minutes, we started to leave cash on the table just as food is served. Asked to see manager who told us it had only been 23 minutes since the order was put in. Our clocks told us it was 35. Assumed he'd comp something/anything, perhaps drinks or dessert but we were wrong. In the end, we paid our full tab, minus 20% for a weekend special & left. We've given this place several tries. The food is decent- The service is not."

  • "This is our first time to the kansas location. It was a completely different experience. For starters the robotic music they play, was really loud. Too loud. Followed by a ridiculous confrontation about half our party wanting to use their groupon and the other half wanting to do happy hour. I feel lilke they discriminated because we were a family as opposed to a couple. We did say we would pay separately though. Anyway food was good, but spoiled by the whole nonsense. Don't know if I will be back to that location."

  • "It was our first time to visit this restuarant. We had reservations. Arrived just a few minutes before and was seated promptly. Loved the atmosphere. We were seated upstairs. It was a little chilly as the vent was blowing right on our table, but other than that, everything else was exceptional!"

  • "Excellent waitress Sara. Martini drinks too sweet. Large menu for rolls or sushi taste. Open Table put us there at 6 & place empty. Could have made later time through restaurant"

  • "We've eaten at this restaurant several times however, the service was only fair on this Sunday evening. The sushi was excellent but the other menu items were only fair. (appetizers etc.)"

  • "everything about it was perfect. look forward to spending some time dining outside and listening to their entertainment soon. It was a bit pricey, but the food was worth it and the presentation beautiful. The drinks were great too!"

  • "My husband and I had a date night at Drunken fish. We were not certain if we needed a reservation, so we took one of the only options available at 5:15pm. We had a great experience, good service and good food. We prefer the sushi dishes to the rice stir fry. There seemed to be some confusion in the kitchen with orders as they confirmed what we ordered at one point, but this did not impact the quality of our food or the time to be served. Also, if you come during happy hour like we did, you can likely save just as much money without the Groupon (since you cannot combine happy hour specials with the Groupon). We will be back."

  • "I love Drunken Fish and always go to P&L but due to the Big 12 did not want to go downtown so we went to Leawood. It was not the same. Great music, has potential, but not many guests and the food did not taste as good as the one downtown. Idk why but I am just gonna stick with the kc one. Much better."

  • "The food was okay - most of the rolls had crab as first ingredient, which is fine, but it just seemed weird. Most sushi places have more fish choices. The service was really outstanding though. Drinks were just okay. They do have a very nice area for outdoor dining."

  • "My husband, mother and I had a wonderful dinner at Drunken Fish. The food was fantastic, the service was the best and everything about the evening was great. I would recommend this restaurant to all my friends and family. Best Sushi in Kansas City."

  • "This was the second time we have been to Drunken Fish. The first time was very good and wanted to go back. This was an "OFF" night and it was not that busy for a Saturday. Everything went wrong. Food took an hour to come to the table. The timing of everything was not right. Server apologized for us waiting so long so it was apparent things were not going well. The food tasted good and when we finally got it was nice. If this had been my first time here I would never go back. Obviously, something seriously wrong in the kitchen on Saturday night. So, might try again, but this night was a really big disappointment."

  • "We got there when there were about 4 customers in the restaurant. We were seated immediately but waited over 15 minutes for our server. All the servers were just standing around chatting and I had to ask them if we had a service. She finally got our server. Our server although late, was very professional, funny and helpful. The food was good and be had some good recommendations. He turned our experience from a 1 to an 8 on a scale of 1-10"

  • "I'm not really a huge sushi/sashimi fan, but really like this place. Have been here several times with a Groupon and two of us have more than enough to eat with a beer or two for $50. In fact, could walk out pleasantly full for a lot less. Have tried something different every time and all has been good. The tuna entree was disappointing size-wise--about 5 super thin slices of tuna steak--great taste, but not much tuna for the price. The tuna kickers appetizer is interesting--kind of like tuna meatballs--very filling. The mango salad is very good--skip the standard dinner salad--pretty typical iceberg with ginger dressing. Definitely need a reservation--weekend waits up to 2 hours without one. Excellent value when you have a Groupon."

  • "We had sushi at the sushi bar. Waited 45 minutes after ordering from the waiter for our sushi, which was not great. The sushi roll pieces were not consistent, some were nice bite size, some were uncomfortably large. The flavors were just ok. The fried soft shell crab tasted burnt/overlooked, and 2 other rolls lacked flavor. Glad we had a groupon. Two of us paid $60 without drinks. We'll stick with the sushi train on 75th."

  • "Drunken Fish has so many options for Happy Hour; whether you go for lunch or after work. Just make sure you are there from 11-12pm since the first HH of the day is only an hour but that's better than most places will offer. Great food and service."

  • "THis is a scene restaurant, is I want that experience I would go to the Power and Light DF. ANd even at that location the service is better. It took 30 mins for our drink order to be filled, and we ordered the drinks in the lounge BEFORE we were seated. All the waitstaff had no personality and interacted with us enough to take our orders and serve our food. We felt more like we were just the "job" and not welcomed or made to feel comfortable. There are a few sushi restaurants in the area that I visit quite often and Drunken Fish is not one I will return to in Leawood."

  • "Food is mediocre. Service is haphazard. Price is a bit too high. Any other sushi place in town will have equally good food that you dint have to wait an hour for. I even had a reservation and had to wait 45 minutes for my table. Unacceptable."

  • "I understand it was a very busy night for the restaurant but the service was terrible. We had a 745 reservation and did not leave the restaurant until 1030 (party of 2). Our waitresses (yes we had 2 of them) were very nice, that is when we saw them. They only stopped by our table every 20-30 minutes. It took almost 30 minutes to get our first round of sushi. At the end of the night we gave them our credit card and did not see either waitress again for 20 minutes. My husband finally had to get up and go look for them. I guess the credit card machine broke but there was no communication of the delay. We never saw a manager the whole night and even the hostess was rude. That being said the food was really good, but still not worth going back."

  • "Food is decent and prices are in line with other upscale sushi spots, but the service was quite poor. Our waiter was not assigned to our section - so he said - so that meant we didn't see much of him at all. Sat on the second floor and the air vents blew cold air on us the whole time. When we mentioned it, there was NO effort made to move us to another table...none. It was just too bad for us. This could be fixed with the simple addition of some air vent diverters that pushes the air up to the ceiling instead of pointed directly at guests."

  • "Service was good, however it generally takes 20 + minutes until you receive your order. This has happened every time we have gone to Drunken Fish. Seems like a long time to wait for 2 sushi rolls. Tiger rolls quite tasty."

  • "Everything was good but be prepared to pay for ice if you order anything "on the rocks". No kidding."
    Dined on 3/7/2014
  • "The sushi was VERY disappointing, very generic and totally underwhelming in flavor (except for the 'tuna carpaccio" which was good). We are experienced sushi eaters (everywhere from east to west coast) and we had heard and read so much about this place and expected much better, especially for the prices. But after trying various items on the menu, (sashimi, nigiri, special rolls, etc) we felt even our local grocery store had MUCH better sushi - at FAR more reasonable prices. Aside from the exceptional server we had that night (and maybe that tuna carpaccio), the meal was absolutely forgettable in the world of sushi. Maybe our experience worked against us, but this place doesn't even rate a 2nd try from us & I would NOT recommend it."

  • "Unfortunately, the sushi here tastes like it has been pre-made and then sat waiting for a table to order it. The rice is too dense and congealed, and you can tell the rolls weren't fresh because the seaweed is gummy (too much moisture absorbed while waiting to be served). Also, the nigiri (fish on rice) rolls - the fish was cut SO thin that you could literally see though it. Absolutely ridiculous! The wait staff was good, but can't overcome the bad food. If you want good sushi, try Domo in Brookside, or Friends Sushi in Westport. Heck, even the sushi train in Shawnee is considerably better than this!"

  • "Great sushi, great scene. Lots of fun. Service was impeccable."

  • "The sushi rolls are wonderful. Not sure if new chef on board but much better presentation than my last visit. Now I would greatly recommend this restaurant. The ambiance is unique, enjoyable, and quite grand. The manager (owner?) always walks the floor interacting with the guests - a very nice touch and much appreciated. My only negative on this visit was that my server misplaced my Drunken Fish rewards card; that's kind of irresponsible."

  • "We have dined at the Drunken Fish location at Power and Light on several occasions and enjoyed all aspects of the meal so we were looking forward to dining at the newest location. We took customers to dinner and what should have been a 1 to 1-1/2 dining experience turned into a drawn out 2-1/2 hour uncomfortable experience, and we didn't have dessert! Our server was not attentive, in fact she kept disappearing. We sat without food and drinks refills several times and had to ask another server to please locate our server more than once, he stepped in and helped with our requests a couple of times-he was the bright spot of the evening. The appetizers were good, the sushi was prepared well but I have had fresher/better."

  • "We arrived at the Drunken Fish and were greeted right away. My husband and I were presently surprised by the look and feel of the place. Once we were seated our server appeared. He was very delightfully and knowledgeable about the food and drinks they serve. My husband had the teriyaki steak and I had a spicy sushi roll and both dishes were awesome!! I recommend this place for wonderful service and great food."

  • "Had to place a credit card number for reservation and had to wait 25 minutes after our time. Not very friendly at the start. The food and our server made up for that. Both were great!"

  • "From the first step in the door, our service was outstanding! The hostess greeted us with much professionalism and guided us to our table. Our server (Alex) was exceptional as well. My date and I have both been servers in the past and we both made comments to eachother of how great of a job he was doing (yes, we tipped accordingly). The food was also quite delicious. We started with the lettuce wraps, had a couple sushi rolls, then had the strawberry cheesecake makimono (absolutely phenominal!!). We will be back!!"
