  • "Oysters, raw dishes and small plates all were good but the entrees fell flat. Skatewing was bland and Venision was overcooked. Server seemed a bit rushed and didn't take the extra time that the best ones deliver."

  • "Delicious restaurant with excellent seafood selections. If you are not in the mood for seafood there are other options. My husband had venison that was fantastic. Our server was very friendly and offered many helpful suggestions. Looking forward to returning soon!"

  • "When telling friends we had a Driftwood reservation, we heard "oh, we haven't been since the new chef arrived, tell us what you think of the new guy!" We were able to tell everyone that the new chef was extremely personable with his patrons, creative with his offerings, and knocked it out of the park with our two selections. Better yet, the vegetable selections were just as tasty, especially considering my family's 2014 goal to get healthy, and many times the veggies are just an accompanying side show to the main course. Not here, thankfully! Cheers to others checking out (or coming back to) this Bishop Arts District gem!"

  • "The venison came out cold. Took the waiter a while to bring our drinks. I will maybe go back. I did like the atmosphere though."

  • "I'm from Japan. My family and I love sea foods. I have to say Driftwood for foodies. Including appetizers and a dessert we ordered 10 plats. My favorite were Oysters, Kanpachi with pickled white vegetables, crispy scallops and Halibut. They are very excellent. Lobster was little chewy, crabs dish was little salty for me but not for my husband and daughter. Our server Joshua was very friendly and nice!"

  • "We love the food, presentation, and service, but it is a bit noisy. Great for two or four, but any more and you'll never hear what all are saying."
    Dined on 6/20/2014
  • "Our meals was good, but the cost for small plates and entrees was way over priced. The wait staff are sloppily dressed, the noise level is high and the ambience is more like a café. For less money, bigger portions, better presentation and equally or better tasting food I would go to Eddie V's."

  • "Went on a first date, Scott was AMAZING. Friendly, inviting, and squeezed us into the bar (also captured the attention of the bartender for us). Even better, he found us a table before our reservations, so that was super nice. Food was remarkable, service was impeccable, and will be back again (and again!)"

  • "One of the best dining experiences I have had in years! Incredible food- fresh, light, flavorful and beautifully presented. Our server was knowledgable and personable and made excellent recommendations on food and wine. I cannot recommend it enough- I already have plans to take my father next month!"

  • "Quiet, character restaurant with friendly, attentive service! Food portions were generous and absolutely delicious!! Had a fabulous beet and goat cheese salad with a subtle citrus sauce! Loved my entree: skate!! And added truffle Parmesan fries to died for! Unfortunately I'm 7 months pregnant so I didn't get to try the oyesters, raw choices or wine list:( But that gives me a reason to go back!"

  • "Apparently the exec chef left a couple of months ago and took some of the signature dishes with him. The waiter's excuse was that their menu changes seasonally, but I know for a fact that there were some items (tuna tower with avocado) that was always on the menu. Their wine list is good if you are looking for "cheaper" wines. I don't think there was anything more than $100. Unfortunately, the guys I was with are big wine guys and wanted something more. Finally, the waiter seemed unclear about some details about the items on the menu. In any event, if you went here 3 months ago, good job, you caught it at it's peak. I hope they can turn it around, but until they do, I don't believe I will return."

  • "My husband and my budding 7-year old foodie/critic ate here for an early dinner and the most memorable part of the meal were the outstanding appetizers particularly the smoked scallops which we would have ordered more of but restrained ourselves to try more of the menu. I don't recall the other appetizer but it was also delicious, more so than the entrees (grilled octopus and a pork dish) which were good but not great. Ambience was bright and crisp with a very high waiter-to-table ratio and casual atmosphere. Cocktails were also delicious."

  • "The food was good and I considered it to be unique. I would go back again. The service was very slow this night and the food took quite some time to come out. Surprising considering some of it was raw - oysters. I like it because the menu changes and doesn't get boring. Very unique and eclectic neighborhood that isn't stereotypical of a big city. "

  • "Noisy and loud, to the point of screaming to talk to the person across the table. They need some acoustic control. Service, in one word...slow. In several words, what a waste of my time. Food was good but CLEARLY not worthy of the pricing. It's on our never again list."

  • "Went to Driftwood for our anniversary. Overall experience was pleasant. Enjoyed the food. Our server was warm, attentive, and helpful. We would definitely go there again. The decor was nice, bright, giving the place a bright and open ambiance. The only thing negative to say was that the layout may not be as conducive to private/romantic dining. Big table with big group in the middle of restaurant seemed to absorb much of the otherwise cool and pleasing ambiance. Overall, the experience was good. "

  • "The food here was very flavorful and delicious and the service was great. I will say, the ambience was more on the elegant side than I had anticipated from a review I had read about it beforehand. I don't think I was necessarily underdressed with nice blue jeans with dress shirt and shoes, but I wouldn't have wanted to go any more casual than that. Wearing dress slacks feels like it would have fit the vibe more, tho it is definitely not overly-formal or stuffy."

  • "Fantastic service, fantastic food, who could ask for anything more. It's so hard to cook seafood correctly, this place does it with success! Nice job."

  • "My restaurant adventure at Driftwood started with a warm welcome by Ryan the bartender who was a mixologist and performed his magic creating some fabulous classic cocktails for my friends and me. The ambiance is small, but very classy and friendly. Our waiter was a pro and guided us through the seasonal menu of delightful dishes to make any foodie happy. We started with a few sides of garlic truffle fries, Brussels sprouts, and beat salad - all were delicious. Our main courses included the tile fish with fern fronds and trumpet mushrooms, scallops with bacon, and the vegetarian medley. It was such a pleasant experience and we will surely be back often."

  • "This is a quiet, casual place. I was with two other people. They started by ordering cocktails and I had wine. The server was knowledgeable about everything (food, drinks, etc.). The people I was with loved their cocktails. We ordered three raw options, a small plate and three large plates. We shared one dessert. Everything was delicious - we all loved everything we ordered. The service was excellent. We were the last to leave that evening and never felt rushed. The entire experience was fun and perfect. We all said we would definitely come back."

  • "The atmosphere was a bit cold, almost clinical with everything white. The food was unique and tasty, but small servings. I wouldn't dine famished, as it took a while for the courses to appear at your table and they don't offer complimentary bread - you have to purchase bread if desired. What fine dining establishment charges for bread?? With their price structure and small offering, you would think they could afford to provide complimentary bread (carbs are a good filler up food). I wouldn't return, nor recommend only based on the small servings and bread purchase. "

  • "I took my husband, son and daughter-in-law with baby son. It was the hubby's birthday dinner. The food was so weird and frankly unattractive, that the experience was lost on me. The price was really high. Including tip I spent $100.00 per adult. I won't be going back, but foodies might enjoy it."

  • "I'd heard great things about this restaurant, but it did not live up to the hype. The food took literally an hour to get to the table, one person's fish entree was cold, another person's lobster was overcooked and had to be sent back, but the food that was hot and not overcooked was pretty good. If there were more employees in the kitchen and less milling around the floor maybe the food would come out in a timely manner and well-cooked. Also, the prices were ridiculous for the service/quality. The only positive was the nice man refilling the water, he was very attentive and did a great job. I will not be going back and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone who enjoys food."

  • "My husband and I went to Driftwood for our anniversary. We tried some things we had never eaten before and, all in all, it was a good experience. I had the Alaskan Halibut, which was very tasty, and my hubby had the Wagyu steak, which he didn't find to be that impressive. Our favorite part of the meal was a side of truffle and garlic fries. They were fantastic! In our opinion, portion sizes were not what we were expecting for the price. We agreed that we both enjoyed it, but aren't sure we would go back simply because we've had just as good food for less at other restaurants. I wouldn't recommend going on a first date there because it's a little loud, but it is a good place for a night out. Worth trying."

  • "We went here as a relatively last minute decision based on who had a reservation available in the area we were wanted to have dinner in when we were done doing the bluebonnet trail. We are so glad we went here. The food was exceptional as was th service. I will definitely be going back again and will gladly make the drive to do it! "

  • "The exterior and interior of the restaurant held the promise of a great meal, but the simplicity of the decor was no match for the unnecessarily complex plates we were served. We tried all the small plate offerings plus a few other items. Each plate we were served had more layers than the next. Everything looked beautiful, but unfortunately the combination of favors never gelled. There was one ingredient that seem to hijack each plate: yellowtail lost in tart citrus, scallops drowning in salt, octopus burnt by recognition (understand supposed to be charred but could not taste anything but charcoal), cauliflower oily, etc. A lesson in in less is more would serve this restaurant well. "

  • "Chef Kyle did not disappoint! Welcome back! We previewed some of the new menu items and they were stellar. The Beet and Radish salad was as tasty as it was beautiful. Scallops were seared to perfection and followed by Trout with crispy scallions and artichoke which was magnificent. Can't wait to taste all the new and improved menu items!"

  • "This place is awesome. The food was amazing, the waitstaff were wonderful. The portions are small but we had plenty to eat. Great drink slecetion that had just changed for the spring. This is a a keeper on our list of favs."

  • "I knew our meal at Driftwood would be excellent going in. The halibut was more delicious than I could have imagined, cooked to perfection, sitting on a white sauce made of celery root among other things that was delectable. The beet salad was wonderful also. Plating of the food was like a work of art. I left wanting to return immediately to enjoy the same meal again."

  • "Driftwood dares to be different. Fact of life: different is not always better. Nice to have a restaurant that tries, dares even, to be different. We liked everything we tried, but some dishes were not notable, not exceptional, so too, some of the combinations do not exceed the sum of the parts. Highly recommend Brussels sprouts with kimchi bacon, mint, scallion -- hard to believe recommending brussels sprouts at a seafood restaurant -- these were no longer brussels sprouts, they were elevated to extraordinary. Chargrilled octopus was good but not as good as available from street vendors in Bangkok. Red snapper with fiddlehead ferns was good; first time for fiddlehead ferns: very interesting, special treat, will look for them again."

  • "My husband and I think this is the best seafood in Dallas. It is all divine....but our favorite thing is ordering the mussels for an appetizer and then dipping the grilled bread into the sauce once we've finished the mussels off.....and then ordering another round of the bread to sop up more of it. Not sure we have ever tasted anything better."

  • "Have been to Driftwood many times altho' it's been a year since our last visit. This was not the fabulous treat it has been. Had an 8:30 reservation but did not get seated until after 9:00. Our waiter was competent but not more. There was a long wait between the appetizer & main course and the main courses had cooled off by the time we got them. I had mussels but had to eat them with a dinner fork . Food was good but not stellar. The scallop ceviche was slices dressed with sauce-odd. The mussels, an evening special, we're mediocre-they were not hot, no spoon offered for the broth, and at least half were barely open. Main courses were very good but not a good temperature. The bartender, Ryan, is fabulous- personable & good cocktails."

  • "I had a high recommendation from a friend for this seafood restaurant which did not live up to my expectations. The noise level was a distraction. The menu was limited and one member of our group referred to the selections as " too offbeat ", certainly too pricey and small-portioned for the location and "diner ambiance". The Cotuit oysters were covered with grapefruit bubbles/foam, an accompaniment which only obscured the raw oysters which should be seen before eaten The beat salad was delightful but the special for the evening, red snapper was dry and without interest. My companion truly enjoyed the seared scallops and pickled shrimp. Both desserts, ginger cake and pannacotta, were moderately satisfying."
