A word from Driftwood
Driftwood has been a successful addition to the collection of establishments in Oak Cliff & the Bishop Arts District for 2 years, earning a 4-star review from the Dallas Morning News.

The menu a journey influenced by Kyle McClelland’s time on the East coast, with a focus on seaonality, quality and accessibility. Oysters include Kushhi and Duxbury with traditional accoutrements, raw selction offering Day Boat Fluke and Hawaiian Tuna. Appitizers include Truffled Snow Crab and Spicer’s Greens. Larger plates lavish with Nova Scotia Halibut and Cervena Venison Chop. Menu offerings are subject to change at any time due to seasonality and availability.

The beverage program the largest collection of premium absinthes in North Texas. Wine service includes an ambitious wine-by-the-glass program that offers 25 new and old world choices.

Either the server is friendly, but knows nearly nothing about the menu (our experience at the bar both times) or the server is knowledgeable, but actively exudes anti-charm.   • "When we first arrived we realized we would be put at the same table for two that we had requested to moved from on a prior visit! Too Noisy! we waited and were given a much better table. The food was all excellent with the exception that my fish was served cold. All the other dishes were hot. When I complained they promptly prepared another piece of fish which was excellent. The manager then served a complimentary dessert with champagne. Great customer service!"

  • "My wife and I celebrated our anniversary at Driftwood recently. The food was fantastic. We started with an assortment of raw oysters which were incredibly fresh. We followed that by splitting an heirloom tomato salad which was equally good. That was followed by entrees of skate and salmon which did not disappoint. Both were nicely seasoned and presented. Intense pieces of chocolate cake combined with caramel and popcorn ice cream were a great finish. Having read a few reviews complaining about long waits, slow service and less than friendly wait staff, I wasn't sure what to expect, but we experienced none of that. We were seated immediately. Dinner was well paced. And our server was friendly and helpful. We'll be back."

It was so noisy we could barely have a conversation with the person next to us at the table. But please know that the food and service were terrific!"

Food was very good but on this evening the kitchen was extremely slow, so slow that our server felt compelled to bring us two salads as we waited for our entrees. While that is always a nice gesture it does ruin your appetite as it fills you up unnecessarily. Hoping they work out the kinks"

  • "I've now eaten at driftwood on 4 occasions and it has never disappointed. The menu changes regularly, which is fun. The seafood is unbelievable, regardless of what you get. I, nor anyone I've taken there, has been anything but impressed by the food. It is on the pricier side. Expect to pay $30-60 per person for food and $50+ for a bottle of wine. The atmosphere is low key, naturally bright, and airy, despite being a fairly small restaurant. Overall, this is one of my new favorites in Dallas and I'd highly recommend it."

  • "We almost didn't go back because of how loud it was the first time. A friend spoke highly of the new (to us) chef so we went back. It's still so loud that it's hard to enjoy a meal there. That said, the food overall was very good. We tried three different oysters which really confused the wait staff as to which were which - I still don't know which one I liked. The beet salad with goat cheese was excellent. I would recommend it even for people who might not normally like beets. My kanpachi was good but the excellent fish was overpowered by the accompaniments. The striped bass chowder was very good but a little dry. Ditto for my halibut - it was overcooked. Other reviews said the portions were small but for us they were appropriate"

  • "The food was good as always but I don't know if it's worth it. We were seated 45 minutes later than our reservation, we ordered as soon as we sat down. About 15 minutes later we got our starters and then had to wait 45 minutes for our entrees. when we got there it was full but 1.5 hrs later when we got our food there were only about 2 or 3 other tables. They did give us complimentary dessert that was delicious, but it was too little and waaaay too late."

  • "Some of the best sea bass and skatewing I've ever had in Dallas. Too bad I'll never go back. We had reservations at 7:00 and were seated shortly before 8:00. The waiter was inattentive and arrogant. He claimed all portions were incredibly small (described the small plates as 3-5 bites), which was totally false. Obviously a ploy to convince us to order more and create an even pricier dinner. And, the noise level was some of the worst I've ever encountered. Our party of three could NOT have a conversation. Perhaps I'll get that sea bass to go next time……if there is a next time."

  • "My boss had been raving about Driftwood for months. So I was excited to try it. At the last minute, my boss told me that the chef had changed, but I didn't think that would drastically affect the food quality. Wrong! I ordered a salad and a scallop appetizer. I had to send the appetizer back. The scalops were drowning in some cream sauce and served on top of a shell that had about 1/4 inch of sea salt in it. Horrible! They did not charge me for this dish. My dining companion had an entree that she liked but the portion was very small considering how $$$ the entree's were. The atmosphere was cute but the waiter was either stressed or just didn't have a personality. Overall, it was a disappointing experience."

  • "Service was excellent; however, he was soaked with sweat-space was cramped and stuffy. My entree came out incorrectly-I requested no dairy on a fish entree. The "fixed" piece returned to the table in 5-7 minutes?- and was raw in the center. The manager was nice about it and removed the fish from our bill. The by the glass wine menu has several unrecognizable brands which I find usually equals lower quality wine at high prices. The noise level was LOUD; we felt like we were yelling at each other. Eating at the restaurant was almost stressful-waiters, servers, people buzzing all over the place non stop-filling water, asking if we're doing ok etc. Fine line between good service and over attention. very disappointed."

  • "When telling friends we had a Driftwood reservation, we heard "oh, we haven't been since the new chef arrived, tell us what you think of the new guy!" We were able to tell everyone that the new chef was extremely personable with his patrons, creative with his offerings, and knocked it out of the park with our two selections. Better yet, the vegetable selections were just as tasty, especially considering my family's 2014 goal to get healthy, and many times the veggies are just an accompanying side show to the main course. Not here, thankfully! Cheers to others checking out (or coming back to) this Bishop Arts District gem!"

  • "I'm from Japan. My family and I love sea foods. I have to say Driftwood for foodies. Including appetizers and a dessert we ordered 10 plats. My favorite were Oysters, Kanpachi with pickled white vegetables, crispy scallops and Halibut. They are very excellent. Lobster was little chewy, crabs dish was little salty for me but not for my husband and daughter. Our server Joshua was very friendly and nice!"

  • "Apparently the exec chef left a couple of months ago and took some of the signature dishes with him. The waiter's excuse was that their menu changes seasonally, but I know for a fact that there were some items (tuna tower with avocado) that was always on the menu. Their wine list is good if you are looking for "cheaper" wines. I don't think there was anything more than $100. Unfortunately, the guys I was with are big wine guys and wanted something more. Finally, the waiter seemed unclear about some details about the items on the menu. In any event, if you went here 3 months ago, good job, you caught it at it's peak. I hope they can turn it around, but until they do, I don't believe I will return."

  • "The food was good and I considered it to be unique. I would go back again. The service was very slow this night and the food took quite some time to come out. Surprising considering some of it was raw - oysters. I like it because the menu changes and doesn't get boring. Very unique and eclectic neighborhood that isn't stereotypical of a big city. "

  • "The food here was very flavorful and delicious and the service was great. I will say, the ambience was more on the elegant side than I had anticipated from a review I had read about it beforehand. I don't think I was necessarily underdressed with nice blue jeans with dress shirt and shoes, but I wouldn't have wanted to go any more casual than that. Wearing dress slacks feels like it would have fit the vibe more, tho it is definitely not overly-formal or stuffy."
