I wanted to take my 9-year-old daughter out to dinner and chose downtownfood because it looked as if it would both cater to her budding foodie inclinations and welcome a younger diner. We really lucked out on both counts. The food was innovative, delicious and beautifully presented and we were warmly welcomed and cared for during our meal. My daughter gave our meal at downtownfood "11 out of 10". She particularly loved the tempura battered maki and that she was offered extra cherries in her Shirley Temple as a matter of course, her "secret wish granted". She was too full for dessert (the portions were large) but excitedly took a salted caramel-chocolate tart home to share with her sisters. We will be back!

Try this restaurant. Impeccable service and absolutely wonderful food. We had the Boxstar tomatoe salad on a bed of pesto with homemade smoked bacon. It was superb. What an interesting combination of flavours that worked perfectly. The mains of Duck breast and duck confit spring rolls and the Waygu beef with foie gras ravioli and chanterals were nothing short of fantastic. The following night we were in Montreal and ate at Joe Beef's Liverpool Restaurant. It was good but Downtown Food was head and shoulders better. Our waitress was so helpful and she recommended a lovely wine at a good price. If you enjoy a touch of food fusion and like flavourful food, do not pass on this great place!

Good environment, but service is overly aggressive for those trying to have a business conversation. We were in the middle of an important conversation and the server interrupted numerous times at critical conversational junctures. Having been a server myself for five years in my younger life, the service seems canned / boilerplate, and with far too many touch points for a restaurant that I would estimate is hosting a high percentage of business people doing deals over lunch. Those people are there to talk primarily. The meal is somewhat secondary.

We were fortunate to have both the Chef's come to our table to explain the items for lunch. Also a substitute menu was arranged for people who had allergies for certain kinds of ingredients in the food. Incredible service and delicious food. Thank you.

Everything about this restaurant is top notch - service, food and wine. There are so many delicious flavors on the plate that complement each other. There were four of us having dinner and each ordered a different appetizer and main course and every plate was cooked to perfection most with a hint of spicy heat. If you go and you must, try to get seated in Andre's section. He is a true professional.

This was my fourth or Fifth visit in the past year and the quality of food is still outstanding. Server was very busy but kept in touch over the meal, had 1 round of drinks take a bit but he came by to check and got them right away. Food was delicious, steak sandwich was a fresh take on a french steak and frites. Gingerbeef was a very nice app. Seafood sashimi bowl was a hit, rainbow trout fish feature was also perfect. It is a little loud at lunch, but a busy restaurant is always preferable. Drinks were very imaginative, lots of variation and complex flavours. Their house brewed beer is very tasty! The Knockout punch to our meal was our friend never gets dessert for her birthday b/c of a severe dairy allergy. Not only was the whole meal made safe for her, but chef whipped up a dairy free chocolate mousse that was to die for.

DTF is knocking out some fantastic dishes from its kitchen. The menu changes daily as they strive to use the freshest items available. There is tremendous imagination in their menu and the plating alone will leave you wondering what the rest of the dishes come out looking like. Beef Tartare is served under a glass dome trapping in smoke; watermelon and feta "salad" has the watermelon cut into round cylinders wrapped with a thin cucumber slice; wagu beef ravioli has truffle foam on top of it. I am looking forward to returning to DTF. They are doing something very special here for the Calgary restaurant scene.

Had a nice lunch at Downtown food. The service is very good, very pleasant service, attentive and quick. This was my second visit and unfortunately, you would have trouble going very often because the menu is extremely limited. That said, the dishes we did order were very good. It's more quiet then some of the restaurants nearby so really good for lunch as you can talk easily.

If you only have one night in Calgary make sure you eat at Downtown Food! It's not in the greatest area of town and the restaurant decor is not that impressive...........but the food and service is INCREDIBLE. If this place was in Europe it would certainly get one Michelin Star and maybe even two. We visited on the penultimate night of our stay in Calgary and we were just blown away with how good the food was. Then we discovered that on Fridays and Saturdays they have a tasting menu, so we immediately cancelled the reservation we had at another upscale Calgary restaurant and returned to Downtown Food for a second night to try the tasting menu...........we were not disappointed.

We called in to Downtown Food on a whim for a late night supper. The food was great as always and because it was around 9pm we had the front of the restaurant to ourselves for a romantic dinner. The simple wine list provides an easy selection of good wines and we shared the Boar Chop which was absolutely delicious. The house provided us with the special appetizer free of charge which was an added bonus. Always a good spot to visit.

Good: Wagyu Beef Tartare; Wild Boar Chop - big portion, not game-y tasting; Chocolate Tart with smoke infused whip cream - best of the night. OK: Miso cured sablefish - a good dish but nothing that distinguishes it from the same dish in other places. Bad: Tempura-battered sushi roll - taste & texture of the rice didn't seem right (altered by the deep frying?), fresh real wasabi was a dry and solid lump (sitting out too long?) Annoying: The wine had a dry cork; 2 or 3 attempts got it open; some cork in the wine so one server offered to filter it but when we get to the dregs another wanted to just dispose of what was ½-¾ of a glass. Servers should talk to each other especially when there are only 4 tables. Espresso arrived without crema.

Read the reviews so the wife and I decided we needed to give the restaurant a try. We arrived Friday around 6:15 to find the restaurant to only have a few patrons, so this was a bit disconcerting. This concern was quickly alleviated when the food arrived. I started with the tuna tataki followed by the wagyu beef ravioli and my wife ordered the tomato salad starter followed by the wild boar chop. All the food we ordered was amazing! The freshness and the flavours were all incredible and the servings were of the right portions. Our waiter explained what was in our food when it arrived and was at our table when required and was never over bearing. We will definitely be back with others in tow.

I had lunch here with friends and having been to downtownfood a few times, I thought it was a good choice. The food and ambiance were great, but the service leaves something to be desired for being intentionally ambiguous or deceiving in respect of drinks. When someone asks for water, bringing a bottle of water and charging $6.50 for it is not an acceptable practice.

Missing New York for it's cuisine while in Calgary for 5 weeks, a friend told me to check out DTF. Forget not being disappointed, it was one of the best meals I've ever had, and given the quality and detail of the food, very very reasonable. It was so good, I went back 3 times, each time with different people, all of whom had the exact same response. We had the tasting menu on the last evening where you were sad that each course had to end. I can't say enough good things here to convey the complexity of the flavors and the inspired tastes.
