downtownfoodThis was our first time toThis was our first time to this restaurant and we will definitely be going back. Food was full of flavor and just the right portion size. Nice relaxed atmosphere, never felt rushed. If you go, ask to sit in Megan's section - she is an awesome server.12/4/2013 12:00:00 AMMy wife and I are in our seventiesMy wife and I are in our seventies and would ordinarily not go to a place like Downtown Food, mostly because of price and our budget. But we had a gift certificate that caused us to go there. I think we will go again. The food and service were great. Three things: the chairs were a bit soft and low; the table was deep,(that is, we sat some apart, awkward for visiting across the table with the noise level); and three, we would prefer something quite and classical, or just quieter and more background in the way of music. I'm a jazz fan and player so I'm not upset by music that moves and is a little loud; but for lunch or dining, I personally prefer less beat and more gentle background music.12/3/2013 12:00:00 AMA quaint and intimate settingA quaint and intimate setting for having great food and building memories. A must try for this hidden diamond in the rough.11/4/2013 12:00:00 AMSuper meal and good valueService was excellent, food was fresh, novel and flavourful.9/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent and theFood was excellent and the chef makes things with fresh ingredients everyday. Had excellent fish tacos which the chef substituted with Ahi Tuna rather than the pickerel as he thought the pickerel wasn't fresh enough to accept from the supplier ... that's excellent. Service was very good.9/4/2013 12:00:00 AMlove the food and service.love the food and service. decor was great too. will return for sure.9/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat new place for lunch! The menu at downtownfood isn't extensive, but it's high quality. I've been there for lunch 3 times in the last month and the experience has been good each time. It's rapidly becoming a place to bring clients for lunches. Great locally-sourced ingredients, very good service, imaginitive menu. Nice experience overall!8/4/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat for meetingsTook project colleague out for lunch. Great food at reasonable prices for the type of restaurant it is.
We were seated by the back near the bar where the waitresses enter all their tabs, which was a bit noisier.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacularThe Owners of downtownfood told us their lunch was great, but their dinners were spectacular. We welcomed the opportunity to experience it. Spectacular indeed!. Local food, organic, and very creatively put together. The Chef's tasting item on the menu is a superb 6-course sampling of downtownfood's offerings, and recommended as the way to go, especially for the first time. Highly recommended.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AM"Best Steak Ever"My younger brother's exposure to restaurants is limited so dining at a place such as this was a new experience for him. We celebrated his birthday, upon which he ordered his favorite, steak. He was expressively pleased & when Chef Darren dropped by to ask how everything was, enthusiastically exclaimed, "This is the 'best steak ever', so much better than anything I've had and tried had many - Earl's and Moxies have nothing on yours." Further in my conversation with my bro, had a good laugh as I shared that I guess he is now ruined for other places. His response was, "This wagyu is definitely the steak of choice." I guess I will need to bring him out more often as that moment was just classic. Oh, the memories!6/11/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent. WonderfulThe food was excellent. Wonderful flavours and well presented. The only complaints were the weird height of the bench seating (my dining companion was sitting noticeably higher) and the club music which eventually drove us out.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding FoodThis is the second time we went and both times the food was magnificent. The presentations are beautiful and modern. The staff was great and friendly. Probably the best experience downtown Calgary.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMClass and Cost EffectiveHad Lunch at downtownfood a few days ago. Very unique Lunch Menu. Began with very friendly waiter who took time to visit and chat explaining how most veggies grown on their roof---all organic. When the food came out you could tell how fresh it was and flavors exploded in your mouth. Place was not too loud making a business conversation pleasant. The menu was yuppie prices...however they offer a package of your three choices of Starter / Main and Desert for a flat price of $25.00 very cost effective and filling. I am no food critic...but a thumbs up from Global Ocean Group.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Service and FoodFood is always excellent quality - I have business meetings there. I have eaten there many times - consistently good for lunch.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazingI was a little skeptical at first glance of the menu, but my friend and I ordered selections her husband recommended. We started with the Pear Salad and the Sable fish was our main. Absolutely no regrets and now I'm open ( and look forward) to trying other items on the menu. The overall "concept" of farm-to-table was especially appealing to me. Great ambiance for a small group, couple, or casual dining experience. I wouldn't recommend it for families with children at all.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAMAZING!!My girlfriend and I went out to celebrate her Birthday. We had the 6-course tasting menu, and had some extra courses brought to us as well! All around the experience was amazing. The food was all fantastic, and even dishes with fish (which I am not really partial to) were fantastic! Darren, the co-owner and chef made everything feel special, and you can tell he is very passionate about what he does. I have never been disappointed with ANYTHING I have ever tried at Downtownfood. I would go back there in a heartbeat!5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding!!!Great food and service. Very thoughtful presentation with intense, pure flavours. Just gets better each time I go. Fourth visit so far, with many more to come.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMA Place to Retreat ToNice to know a place which feels like a refuge to retreat to when needed. A place where the food leaves an tantalizing impression in your mouth, the service is personable (especially with Megan), and the company you share the moment with always make the evening even more memorable.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMTastyThe Service was great! The food was good i would go back in a heart beat !!!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMFood, check. Service, check.Had lunch at Downtownfood and was surprised by both the excellent service and the great food. At first I was disappointed by the slightly smaller menue size, but I suppose selection gave way to an excellent meal, as all of our meals were very good. The menu although small, does offer a wide enough selection that anyone could find a few things they would like. The only thing I'd like to see at Downtownfood would be an outdoor patio/rooftop patio!5/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went to Downtownfood toWe went to Downtownfood to try their burger created for YYC Burger Week. The burger was excellent. It even came with a small strawberry milkshake. I wish this burger was part of their regular menu. The service & beer were great as well.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMImpressedHaving a class in the area, had lunch there for the first time as I am rarely on that side of town during this time. Made reservations noting a time restriction and was impressed. Not only were my guest and I seated right away, our server, took our drink orders returned quickly back for our orders. Our food arrived quite timely and was delectable. Despite all the busyiness around, we were able to visit and even shared a dessert returning to class with a moment to spare.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMDowntownfood is ReallygreatfoodI really like this restaurant. I've been there two times. I always think it is under the radar but was quite busy both times I have been there. The food was inventive and delicious. The service was quick and attentive and I will definitely be back.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing - Local and from scratchLove this restaurant. Darren, the chef and owner is an awesome guy and makes sure that everyone is happy. I have loved it every time that I've gone. I'm not normally a seafood person at all, but when they do it, I actually like it. Great appetizers, good choices. Menu changes often. Excellent! Can't wait to go back!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMFries were amazing and theFries were amazing and the stawberry shake that came with the burger was a nice surprise5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMChef Darren's food is a reflectionChef Darren's food is a reflection of his passion for his craft and constant desire to improve and innovate. It's definitely worthwhile to check out downtownfood.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCame here for YYCBurgerWeekCame here for YYCBurgerWeek and was pleasantly surprised to hear about the 25$ special which included soup/salad, the burger (with a side of fries and a smoothie), and dessert. What a steal! I'm not usually a fan of blue cheese but I polished off that house salad and couldn't get enough. Definitely one of my favourite restaurants in the city.5/7/2013 12:00:00 AMbest new restaurant in CalgaryReally thrilled to have found DTF. The food was very special. Chef Darren does everything himself, and it shows. Wonderful flavours and combinations. Great service from people who are passionate about food. And super reasonable for Calgary. Can't wait to go back. LOVE!5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMInnovative menu and great serviceWe were a party of 3, and was seated in one of the comfortable booths. There was a large group of about 30 that night taking up a good portion of the restaurant, so it was quite loud and energetic. Understandably, with such a large group dining at the same time, our food did take quite a long time to arrive, but they made up for it with a complementary appetizer which was excellent. DTF's menu is quite small in number of dishes, but each one is very unique and creative. I wouldn't go here with super picky eaters, but for open minded foodies, it's a great restaurant at a reasonable price point.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMDelish!Great food, fantastic service. Really unique menu and flavours, prepared with care3/4/2013 12:00:00 AMDrinks, at $15 each were tooDrinks, at $15 each were too expensive. $12 -- ok, but martinis and rye at $15 each were too much. There were 3 of us. With appies and cocktails, we spent $190 for an after work get together. Love this restaurant. I think you need to moderate your liquor pricing. My friends don't want to come back.2/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
