Diner Reviews
  • "We have a James Beard award winner in downtown ~ what more could we want? It's beyond delicious!"

  • "The Patron margarita cocktail was Limey & delicious. The She crab soup was extraordinary - creamy & enhanced with lump crabmeat. Dipping the crunchy warm bread in made it great. I had the calamari appetizer which was disappointing, as the calamari was not crunchy as stated & also not hot. Should have been flash fried last & added on top with the patron mixing it together. The service was wonderful - our server was celebratory & wanted us to enjoy ourselves. I will certainly dine there again."

  • "Was the first time here and we went to celebrate our Anniversary, really good food (different) we love love the dessert. Really nice place and hope we can come back"

  • "This place is beautiful and I do mean stunning! Love the atmosphere I have been here once before however my coworkers and I decided to come eat dinner here to have a meeting. Plus, they had never been and we had a Groupon so they could check it out we got the $60 off of our bill. Let me break it down, beautiful place however I personally do not feel that it is worth the price. We had an appetizer of Calamari now I will say that was the best part of our meal! The calamari was pretty amazing!! :)I had the half ceaser salad and that was a joke 3 lettuce leaves, 3 croutons, and parmesan...let me just say our bill was still $200 and none of us left satisfied. The entrees were okay but none of us were in love with our food. Nice ambiance"

  • "We always enjoy Downtown Kitchen, our anniversary was this last week so here we were again. The food was awesome as usual. Our server Robyn was great and very knowledgeable and informative, very fun. We were stuffed, no room for dessert, great night."

  • "We came in for their Summer seasonal menu featuring the cuisine of Charleston and Downtown Kitchen did not disappoint. The food was excellent, the service was attentive, the overall experience was great. This is a great place to go on a special occasion."

  • "My husband and I thought the food was prepared to perfection. We had the Oyster appetizer and She Crab Soup - Magnificent. We liked that the menu had comfort food on it but prepared with an exceptional twist taking it to a new and wonderful level. It was our first time and it looked as though the favorite spot to sit was a booth - intimate for both families, couples or a group of friends. Highly recommend you dine at Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails."

  • "We went for the special Charleston menu and were not disappointed. From the she crab soup to the tomato stack appetizers to the Carpetbagger steak and Low Country Shrimp Boil It was all delish. Desserts were OK. Easy but professional service, great wine list. We love the food here. Only downer was happy hour is not available at the table so we had to order in the bar and then take to the table."

  • "Overall enjoyable experience. Food is exceptional. Ambience is nostalgic and clean."

  • "The restaurant was modern, fun, and noisy, but the food was nothing special. It was VERY overpriced for food that wasn't that great. I don't think we'll go back again."

  • "Downtown Kirchen has an incredible chef, an eclectic menu and an open, friendly and comfortable environment for a wonderful dining experience."

  • "My husband and I used to love DK+C, but our last several dinners there left us quite disappointed. On our most recent visit, our appetizers were forgettable and the entrees were not properly cooked. The carpetbagger steak was VERY tough and overcooked, while the bacon that wrapped around the 1 Percenter's meatloaf was still partly raw. The only saving grace was dessert. With so many tasty options within walking distance in downtown Tucson, I cannot see dining at DK+C again. From now on, we will only stop in to enjoy a jalapeno ice cream sundae."

  • "Love what Janos does with food. Menu was creative and still down to earth. Reasonable prices. Noise level a little high but small price to pay for outstanding food."
    Dined on 7/2/2014
  • "The Singapore menu was excellent. The soft shell crab melted in my mouth. I look forward to trying future traveling menus."

  • "Four of us went for a nice dinner. We all ordered something different. Each of us loved our food and each other's. Then our mango sundaes came out, wow! We will all go back and take other friends and family."

  • "Had a very nice dinner at Downtown Kitchen. The server was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was excellent and the drinks were really good. The only bad thing was that the parking was hard to find. But, you expect this downtown."

  • "Downtown Kitchen + Cocktails is a great urban spot with a hip vibe and some of the most interesting food in Tucson. The Around the Globe Summer Tour menu brings fresh and inventive international food. The Soft Shell Crab with Singapore Chilli Sauce with char siu fried rice with napa cabbage, ginger + garlic was outstanding and an unexpected surprise in this landlocked town."

  • "Vietnam and Mezcal Mule cocktails were excellent - as was the Papaya salad. Entrees were just ok. I had the soft shell crab and my wife had the pork tenderloin. If you are going for big flavors - which it seems like you are - go for it. The entrees were pretty bland."
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "First time there neat atmosphere ! Found the chairs very uncomfortable. Our entree was Luke warm when we got it,. Good flavor food just not hot!"

  • "I was visiting my sister in Tucson and was looking for something different. The service was impeccable! We had the calamari appetizer - very light and interestingly had julienned mango and ginger nice touch. They were featuring foods from Singapore and I had the soft shell crab with Singapore chili. Yum yum !"

  • "I've been a fan of Janos since he was downtown in the 1980's, and had good lunches at DOWNTOWN Kitchen, however, the Basa on June 17th was so highly spiced, it literally burned my mouth. Other diners around me complained about the fish as well and were either sending it back, or having the sauce on the side. The staff tasted the fish and agreed with us that is was uneatable as served. Hopefully this is an isolated incident and I can look forward to more of the wonderful meals at DOWNTOWN I've been used to."

  • "We sat outside and had a wonderful experience. Laid back atmosphere and great service made it a very pleasant dining experience. I recommend this restaurant."

  • "The food is wonderful - interesting flavor combinations without being inaccessible. Delicious!! The non-alcoholic drinks are perfect for adult tastes - complex and flavorful without being too sweet. I hardly ever order drinks at restaurants but I always do here. The papaya salad and bread with mushroom sauce were yummy appetizers and the Father's Day steak and fried chicken dinners were great comfort food. The sorbet dessert was luscious!!! And the service was perfect! It's a little too noisy for our tastes, but the food is worth it."

  • "We got served quickly. The food was delicious and the service was excellent."

  • "We went with another couple for the first time last Saturday, June7. My drink was outstanding - off of their rum menu called Siam Sunray. Everyone enjoyed their drinks. I got the 3 course special and the appetizer and main dish were great. The dessert was average at best - it was the pineapple almond tart. The crust was too thick and too well done. We did enjoy the restaurant and the server was attentive without being intrusive. My wife and I would go back again but would not order the pineapple almond tart."

  • "This is our favorite restaurant in Tucson. The creative offerings of Chef Janos Wilder continue to amaze. I had the Soft-Shell Crab which was fabulous and my husband (as usual) had the duck, though the creation was new. Thanks DTK. Now if you could do something about the excessive noise you'd probably be perfect."

  • "Unique food choices that were excellently prepared. Overall, very tasty! Highly recommend the restaurant, however don't expect to find standard food choices. The only negative-the restaurant was very noisy."

  • "From the moment you walk in you are welcomed with warm hospitality. The staff are all happily helpful and are great at answering questions. The menu is inspired, and the food doesn't negate your hopes from what you read. I love coming here and trying new creations."
    Dined on 5/27/2014
  • "The menu is creative and changes often. During the summer months there are special regional choices that change periodically in addition to the main menu. This summer the regions will be Singapore (now), Charleston, Jerusalem, and Peru. Go online to see which is being offered. The innovative choices make selecting daunting, but fun."

  • "Excellent food and attentive service. A little too noisy for my liking, but OK if one goes early. I hope Janos will go back to serving lunch. For me, low-carb possibilities are too few. Still, I'm very happy to have this restaurant in the 'hood."

  • "I've eaten here a half dozen times and never had a bad meal. The last meal was especially great. The seared duck breast was cooked perfectly. The Hamachi Crudo appetizer was new for me and very elegant. "
