DOWNTOWN Kitchen + CocktailsA gem!Janos and the team continues to knock it out of the park.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat PlaceThis place has great food, excellent ambiance and wonderful service. It's energetic - so be prepared.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMmore than just foodinteresting choices ( I had a lambs tongue taco....super) well prepared. Friendly staff, pleasant environment, very reasonably priced. We had 2 wonderful meals (at the bar) and 2 drinks for under $50 including tip. Food themes from around the world. Will definitely go again.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMCame Friday night for dinnerCame Friday night for dinner and enjoyed the whole experience. Went to a different place Saturday night but came back to Dowtown with friends for the desserts. Peach cobbler was delicious. Thanks!6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMworld class cuisineI think the concept of doing a different country every month is divine. the Korean Pork Bo Ssam with oysters was outstanding with its surprising relish. The lettuce could've been more manageable had the pieces been slightly smaller. Anyway .... as an urban diner in NYC and LA, this did not disappoint.
Congrats, Tucson, on a great chef.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMTucson's BestMy first visit to 'Downtown'. But have been a fan of Janos for twenty five years. Great food and a great night. The ambience so much better than when he was at Westin La Paloma.6/4/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst VisitThis was our first visit to Downtown Kitchen. The menu was inspired by Korean food. I had the short ribs, which were delicious but needed a counterpoint. Perhaps some white rice to offset the sweetness of the tomato based sauce. The other meal was a seafood stew that was delicious. Next month the inspiration is Moroccan. The service was great. I would recommend the Downtown Kitchen to everyone.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat serviceFrom the moment we walked in the door, the staff was attentive and friendly. We ordered the fusilli and duck breast and both were outstanding. The Madame Butterfly cocktail was very good. For dessert we shared the bread pudding that came with their own sweet potato ice cream. Yummy night. The biggest problem we had was finding a parking place. Unbeknownst to us, there was a very large function at the Children's Museum (just south of the restaurant) that took up a lot of parking space. We had to drive around a bit, which is never easy right now in the downtown district due to one-way streets and street car construction. At one point, I almost said, "let's forget it and go elsewhere." Glad we didn't.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMDate Night...This was our first time to the restuarant. We loved it...We did look like those people though, as I "Checked In" on Yelp and my wife "Checked In" on Facebook...
I will say a number of great things - Be sure to use Yelp - FREE DESERT!
Love the Around the World concept, that makes me want to keep coming back each month...if not more frequently.
My wife and I both thought that the food had great comlexities from textures; to layers of taste; to presentation. The staff was attentive without being overbearing.
We have decided that this will be our spot from Date Night...to...Just Because.6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently great foodDon't miss the Thai soup and the duck. Both are incredible.5/26/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, accurate ratingI saw high rating by so many people on various websites so I was expecting it would be good, but I was still skeptical.
It turned out the menu is very unique (you can only eat them there) AND the dishes are fantastic. It might be my favorite restaurant in Tucson. I would recommend this restaurant for any special occasion dinner (good for dates too), or for something different.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMExcelent PlaceI loved the kindness of the everyone there is really nice.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMChef Rocks!Janos Wilder is the most creative chef in Tucson. Others may try, but Wilder is almost always successful. We love this place.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMOur first time in the actualOur first time in the actual dining section - other than once at the bar for a quick bite- and we were both impressed with the food, flavors in the food. It was so wonderful - my husband ate all of his entree which was unusual for him. And he kept commenting on how good it was.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFun to be UrbanWe had a great meal before a concert mid week at the Fox theater. The place was hopping! Not only was the food fantastic, but the feel of being the the "city" was terrific. We had been concerned that the traffic downtown would be difficult due to the construction, but it was actually a breeze. The main dishes were delightful, the cocktails refreshing and tasty and the wine list with many good choices. Love the postings of the local organic farm sources for the veggies etc.
Thank you Janos for going back downtown! We will be back, again and again!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFabulousDowntown Kitchen is perfect in every way! Absolutely spectacular. I highly recommend this place to anyone planning on eating downtown, and hope to be back again very soon.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThis place really stood out,This place really stood out, compared to a lot of what Tucson has to offer. The menu was focusd, and full of some really big flavors. The decor was really fresh and fun. Overall it was a great dining experience.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMI went to the restaurant withI went to the restaurant with my maid of honor and bridesmaid for a small bridal celebration. We had the best time. The service was exceptional. The food was beautiful and delicious. The garlic bread appetizer was incredible. They had a variety of drinks to choose from. We were not rushed, and had a lovely evening.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMVery noisy! Busy-wait staffVery noisy! Busy-wait staff were overwhelmed! Slow service on 4/17.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMUrban GemDowntown Kitchen + Cocktails never fails to impress - the menu is mouthwatering just to read with wonderful variety, eye-opening pairings, and truly original dishes. The service is knowledgable and friendly, the ambience is bustling, modern with nods to tradition, and urban chic. It's just fun and delicious.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMA change for JanosThis is now Janos restaurant in Tucson, his two at the La Paloma having closed. It is geared to the lively downtown Tucson scene and near the Music Hall, theaters and convention center. the food is varied and good with a number of vegetarian dishes. Excellent cocktails and a good wine list.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMSouthwest flair!janos has pulled it off again. Another great restaurant with some of the old and some new. Taste sensations with a southwest flair. Great food. And don't forget to leave room for the Dark Chocolate Jalapeno Sundae. Not to be missed.4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAs a gluten free vegan, itAs a gluten free vegan, it is sometimes difficult to dine our and have an enjoyable meal. Downtown Kitchen is outstanding at meeting these dietary requirements. My meal was simply delicious - well-plated, complex, nicely served - an outstanding dining experience.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMJanos Wilder continues toJanos Wilder continues to be Arizona's most inventive and quality-focused chef. He was in the house the evening we were there and stopped by the table several times. Every dish was sublime, service attentive without being smothering. My favorite restaurant in the West, bar none.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a wonderful night. We had a wonderful night. I had the Cioppino, my husband had the Maple Brined Pork Loin. I was happier with my entree the he was. Overall, we will always come back. We were very fortunate to be able to sit outside. I had reserved, but not outside. I had asked if there was anything outside, there was not. Our host was awesome, she said if something came up she would let us know. Five minutes after we were seated, we were told a couple outside would rather sit inside, how lucky! We had a lovely dinner, your wine is quite pricey! We like coming downtown, so we will be back.
Diane Tyler3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing atmosphere, to dieAmazing atmosphere, to die for food (I had the gnocchi with a glass of alberino), and the waitress was incredibly nice. She asked us (we didn't bring it up) when our showtime at the theater was, which was really helpful. She then made recommendations based on the time we had left! Only negative was it seemed a little warm inside the building.3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting food and good serviceThe food is creative and well prepared. It is a special touch for the owner/chef to be milling about chit chatting! The wine by the glass list has the bases covered...barely. The full wine list wasn't an option this visit so no opinion there. The place is a little crowded if at a table rather than booth. The couple behind our table was fighting - which considering the noise level of the restaurant speaks to the proximity.
The service was friendly, helpful and prompt. They were aware that we had a theater time to meet and did a brilliant job moving us along without us feeling rushed. We were offered dessert and served coffees with plenty of time to enjoy. Our party of five was very pleased with the meal. We will definitely return3/29/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food!! We found the restaurant online and from the reviews we decided to give it a try. We were amazed at everything. We recommend the pork, The sea food bowl and the duck. We even went for a desert which we could not finish. We had our daughter visiting and she said it was one of the best meals she has ever had while travelling. We will definately be suggesting the restaurant to anyone who visits in the future. We hope to be wintering every year for a long time.3/20/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was our first time diningThis was our first time dining with you and we will DEFINITELY be back again and again!! Highly recommend the calamari with candied ginger appetizer, a must-try dish. We miss the ahi appetizer; please bring it back! The Cuban Sunset with habanero-infused vodka is simply the best cocktail in Tucson.2/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful, the second timeWonderful, the second time around for us.
