Downtown GrilleElegantThis past Saturday, my wife and I took a another couple as a thank-you for being good friends on a particular situation where they helped us. Everything was simply wonderful, and the service was friendly, efficent, and never overbearing. Most importantly, my wife loved it and looks forward to returning. While she had a steak - unusual for her - she was very impressed with the seafood selection. They have done a wonderful job of taking a bastion of testosterone - the Steakhouse - and made it comfortably accessible for couples on a date night too. In comparison to a NY steakhouse dinner, or dinner at one of the large steakhouse chains, the DG experience really stands out. The steaks are awesome! We did not have prime beef, but the quality was on a par with prime, and perfectly prepared. Excellent sides and healthy portions. The atmosphere is really great. Comfortable booths and the room itself is perfect for the steakhouse dinner. Staff is friendly and competent. Wine list is very good, especially for Charlottesville. Ate here Saturday and it was possibly the best meal I have ever had. The pork chops and crab cakes were perfectly cooked. The sides were enough for four people. The local beer and wine didn't disappoint either. Have eaten at their sister restaurant, Shoemakers, many times and they need to take notes. Catching up with an old friend for dinner, the waitstaff was so polite every time they came for an order or to check on how our food was. The wedge salad was excellent and the steaks were grilled exactly to our liking. The sides were well prepared and well presented. Don't look for food too far off the beaten past. The restaurant is loud though, so if you are looking for an evening where you can talk and be heard easily request a booth. My husband and I were visiting from out of town and made a reservation at the Downtown Grille on a friend's suggestion. Wonderful experience. Server was very friendly yet gave us our space. The entire experience was not rushed one bit and we were allowed to enjoy each part of our meal. Food was exceptional and the ambiance was amazing.
