  • "On our visit the kitchen turned out amazing plates, but the overall dining experience was diminished by the quality of service. We felt the kitchen met or exceeded expectations with some memorable dishes, including the veal ravioli, crudo, and chatham cod. But after having to flag down our server on several occasions, and having our waitress launch into an uncontrolled nervous giggle when she presented our plates and botched the dish's descriptions... it was apparent that the front of the house needs some work. It is not unreasonable to expect timely and professional service at this price point, which we did not receive (on a Friday night in a less-than-packed dining room, nonetheless)."

  • "Everything was wonderful from start to finish! The service was incredibly friendly, genuine, and professional. The food was fantastic and an excellent value (we had the 4-Course Prix-Fixe). I loved the seared foie gras, fried egg, lamb, and their amazing bittersweet chocolate soufflé. The bartender even concocted custom cocktails for our group. I will definitely return!"

  • "For a restaurant with fabulous food and a high-end ambiance, the service was very poor for half the meal. Yes, it was peak dining hours, but...my friend waited at the bar while I waited at the table for 10 minutes. They did not realize we were both there. She got up and asked. I was not offered a drink for 15 minutes nor could I flag anyone down as they never made eye contact. I had to get up. We were left with an underwaiter bringing us an early amuse bouche and bread, speaking unintelligibly accented English. Our table captain/waiter seemed otherwise occupied until halfway through the meal when things improved but for a minor bobble with dessert flatwear. I did say something. We were not comped wine or dessert; no one apologized."

I had dined at dovetail but had never been able to partake of the veggie-centric menu, now available every Monday evening. Wow! My fav was the fried egg with blue foot mushrooms. My partner really loved the cured carrots with duck breast. The dark chocolate custard dessert was so decadent that we both needed to order our own. Our fav amuse bouche was the truffle bites. yum!!!"

  • "Went there hoping for a special evening and got exactly that. Had the four-course "prix fixe" (which really gives you the entire menu as an option to mix and match, and made for great sharing). It seemed like a great tour of what Dovetail had to offer food-wise. The amuse-bouches between courses were spectacular and the food from the menu was uniformly delicious. Ambiance was great, quiet and reserved. Service was similarly fantastic, extremely attentive without being overbearing. Would highly recommend."

Not only is the tasting menu affordable compared to many other Michelin rated restaurants in nyc, but the food absolutely blew me away and I was happy to fork out $200 on food and wine afterwards. Highly recommend this place!"

  • "A simple yet sophisticated menu along with an outstanding wine list (some would consider pricey) - aided by an airy and free flowing dining room leads to a wonderful dining experience at Dovetail. The staff is attentive without being overbearing; questions regarding the menu and wine list are addressed informatively without snobbery. The food made to order and delivered in adequate spacing between courses - allowing time to enjoy each course - and definitely order the make our own Sundae great way to finish up the evening at Dovetail."

The restaurant came recommended from friends and as I previously lived in the UWS it seemed like a perfect place to try out. We had a full wine paring 4 course meal each which was absolutely amazing - delicious succulent flavours and eveything was served with brilliant service. The extra touch of petit fours prior to the check was really great."

Wine list is quite good, with moderate options and a good variety of wines by the glass. The service was unusually good, with friendly, informative, and inobtrusive staff. The food really is quite good and this is a friendly critique: While each dish is creatively and carefully prepared, there seemed to be just a bit of overreaching in trying to create interesting combinations of style, technique, and flavors in every dish. For Dovetail, less would be more. Nonetheless, very well worth the time and money!"

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed eating here with my boyfriend this weekend. We each got the four course meals and they were outstanding. I got the seared ahi tuna entree and it was to die for. melted in your mouth, cooked perfectly with a side a guacamole, asparagus and a brown butter sauce. For dessert I had the chocolate souffle which was also cooked just perfectly. The staff was on point with clearing glasses and plates. I don't think more than 10 seconds passed every time I was finished with something. They were also very good at explaining what was in each dish when they presented each course to us. Although it was very expensive, it was well worth it - as it was one of the best restaurant experiences/meals I have ever had!"

  • "A very nice, casual-to-formal space, with roomy tables; very attentive and careful service, friendly staff who took care of all our food preferences and allergies impeccably. Very flexible menu, with interesting gourmet choices, suitable for vegetarians to meat lovers. Quality of preparation was very high, with nice modern presentation. Some in our party complained that some dishes were overly salty or somewhat too concentrated, but that depended on the dish. Dessert course was equally wonderful, with a range of textures, flavors, and caloric impact. Nice surprise was an interesting selection of non-alcoholic mixed drinks, which were refreshing and flavorful. A great place for a more formal occasion on the UWS, we will surely be back."

They would also hurry and remove empty dishes from the table if one person was done eating and the other was still eating. Disappointing."

The tasting menu is deceiving however - & if we had one complaint it would be this - while billed as $88 pp, there are several options in each category that have a supplemental charge if ordered. While we probably should have noticed the additional charges on the menu, we did not, & it was not brought to our attention by our server in explaining the way the tasting menu worked. While it would not have changed our choices, it would have been nice to know in advance of ordering as it greatly affects final price. That said, overall, great experience!"

Plating and presentation was creative and the servings of food and wine was generous. It was good value for money. The rose sake paired with the hamachi crudo was an excellent choice. The summer truffles added the extra finesse and flavours to the semolina dumplings! The foie gras was well seared which is how I liked it done but as 2 of my guests didn't take to foie gras, would have liked it if there was an alternative dish choice available for my guest. Overall kudos to the dovetail team for a memorable evening!"

  • "I'd been wanting to try Dovetail for a while now. We ordered the smaller prix fixe option and had a great bottle of wine served at the perfect temperature. The staff were friendly, not stuffy, and very astute in how they served us. The food was seriously some of the best I've ever had in Manhattan, and I'm a tough judge. It's not cheap, but it's guaranteed to be delicious and memorable!"

We brought two special wines from my cave and they were served elegantly decanted in lovely Riedel glasses. Every course was beautifully served from the amuse-bouche (a truffled arancini) through the inventive desserts. The cheese course was amazing: five varied winners from various artisanal sources. Not cheap but you definitely feel you had a Michelin-star-worthy feast."

My only complaint is that the noise level was louder than I would like, between volume of the guests and music being played simultaneously. We made the reservation to go with some friends and had not looked at the current menu. When we opened the menu I felt embarrassed, as the prices were much higher than I recalled and higher than our friends were expecting. But now we can say it was worth it. Fabulous food, inventive, delightful, and can't say enough."

  • "We booked a table for 8 as our Wedding Breakfast after an afternoon at City Hall. The hospitality was fantastic and the food was delicious, as well as being great value. A fixed prix of $88 for four courses off the main menu really helped us control costs. The atmosphere was very high end and if anything we were a little loud for the other clientele but the restaurant were so accommodating & welcoming. The one flaw was that the amuse bouche didn't taste very nice. - @samuksays"
