Greeted with a smile.. the restaurant has good ambience with dim lighting.. Was a little noisy for me. The menu had a lot of options and the server answered all the questions happily. Great place for small groups, but would recommend making reservations.

We had a group of 9 people to celebrate my wife's birthday. With wine, appetizers and main course the meal came to over $50 each. I made the reservation in advance and was called twice to confirm it due to the size of our group. On the 2nd call I was told that since it was a Friday night we could only have the table from 6PM to 8PM. That was the first I heard of that. At the restaurant we were told we couldn't order desert because our time was up. We left at 8 sharp. The food had variety and the quantity was sufficient. It was better than OK, but not over the top great. The wait staff did a good job of providing a variety of dishes. It was a fun night out, but would have been more fun with an extra half hour.

Great Dining experience here. Highlight was the habanero dosa. Timing of bringing out food could have been better. The Black pepper lamb as the entrée was standard, and didn't blow me away. The lamb was a bit gamy, but very tender, and the curry was a fairly traditional Indian curry base. Tea (Chai) was great as well. The dessert was okay at best and confusing at worst. It was the coconut pudding with curry leave. A combination of sweet with hints of savory, but not something I would get again.

The food was lovely, our server attentive, and the wine list was good. The one complaint that I have was that we were seated with chairs crammed into our backs from neighboring tables to the point that it was very uncomfortable for my dining partner and I, as well as the people seated to behind us. I've eaten in crowded, small restaurants before. This seemed a bit extreme. Will definitely go again, but to the other location.

Enjoyed the cocktails and the food, but I have to say, I enjoy the Japantown location more. The ambiance is better. The drinks are better. Even the food seems to be a little higher quality at that location. Wish it weren't the case because I live near the Mission one.

Great location, delicious and refreshing cocktails, artfully designed decor, welcoming vibes with a nice music selection. The food is off the hook. The service staff is generally friendly and helpful (they have a big menu with a lot of great choices). Our last server was either having a bad day or not a good fit for DOSA.Because we LOVE eating there, we wanted to celebrate our first wedding anniversary with DOSA.The host was delightful and greeted us with, "Congratulations!"However, our server never mentioned it and was rough around the edges, making the great food and amazing drinks harder to enjoin. The other staff members were wonderful, which softened the harsher moments.Although that was not the experience we had expected, we will go back!

We sat at the bar and had a very rude bartender/ waitress who interrupted our conversation continually by interjecting her personal opinion into our conversation. It was very uncomfortable, her jumping in our conversation was inappropriate, and worst of all her comments were offensive. Will never return

Both the main server and the table clearing folks were well off-track. The server was clearly spaced out and forget a number of items and niceties. The table clearing team was so over-zealous they were plates which people were still eating, mid-bite. There is some cultural element clearly amiss here, and the management should work on resolving it soon. A stoned server, and an over-enthusiastic table clearer - makes for an annoying evening out.

I have been going here since they opened, and I LOVE it. They are always updating the menu with new dosa and upadam combinations of filling and flavors. I make this one of my top spots to bring friends visiting from out of town as many have never had a dosa or if they have, not as good as what is served here. My only minor criticism is that they have made the dipping sauce less spicy (I love spicy and firry) but I am sure it is because the audience found in to spicy. To counter this, they have also added a number of sauces for the papadam, from tart to savory, mild and spicy so its a win win all around. I also love their second location as well, same food, bigger space.

I've been going to Dosa on Valencia for years now, and I'm never disappointed. Remarkably creative and consistent kitchen, remarkable presentation on the plate, attentive service in a very busy and crowded room, great wine and beer selection, reasonable prices for the quality. Even ordinary stuff like raita and dal taste better here than I've had anywhere else. Just a great restaurant. The kind of place that makes you glad you live in San Francisco.

If you love Indian food and want a different range of options than you usually get in the US, Dosa is for you! Also, if you like truffle, do not hesitate to order the white truffle dosa, it is divine! The cost is a little higher than a casual meal, so maybe save it for a special occasion or just be aware that it's a little more expensive.

We were visiting San Francisco for the first time and came to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. The Summer Monsoon drink was fantastic, Truffle Oil Dosa was great, and the modern twist on the Chole Batura was good. If we make our way to San Francisco again, we most likely will return.

"Locally sourced" chutney from a jar. Every dish comes with the same "dipping soup". Food and service that is wholly unimaginative. From the other reviews and the web site I expected creativity and preparation on par with other of SFOs finest. But was more like a child trying to be his impression of adult - or eBay money that bought a summer trip to india, and then ambitions for restaurant

2 of us arrived for an 8:15 reservation for 3. The hostess asked if we were all there, and we informed her that 2 of us had arrived early and that we would be ordering for the 3rd, who wouldn't be able to join us til later. She told us she couldn't seat us til our friend arrived. She just couldn't get it. So the table literally sat empty while we waited. Silly. Once seated the wait staff more than made up for the inexperienced hostess. WS was knowledgable about the offerings and made great recommendations. The meal was great - flavorful, interesting, great presentation, nice portion size. I was a little disappointed that some of the more traditional items weren't on the menu, but that forced us to try something new and we enjoyed it.

Great place for small groups, dates and foodies as it encourages sampling and sharing between people. All dishes are distinctively different from traditional Indian restaurants so it's a good place to bring out-of-towners looking for new culinary adventures as well. Dosas and Uttapams always make an effect and I particularly loved the lamb curry during our last visit. Our waitress was very accommodating of our group and made excellent recommendations as the menu can be a bit overwhelming to new guests. It's a popular scene, met two other friends who were dining there also that night. Had an excellent time overall. The ambiance is rather high energy so if you are looking for something quiet, this won't be a good place though.

The menu at Dosa is intriguing, and for the most part, the kitchen delivers some great flavors in its dishes. But I could not enjoy my meal over the din. My dinner companion and I were unable to converse in a relaxing fashion. I don't know why restaurants think a loud place makes it " happening." I won't be back.

Dosa is our favorite restaurant to visit on special occasions. We specifically like the 'Lamb Keema Dosa' which is unheard of and hard to find even back in India. The Sambhar and Chutney are awesome too, which reflects the true South Indian food taste. A bit expensive but highly recommended for celebrating a special occasion.

Indian food is my favorite - after 12 trips to India I'm seldom fully satisfied by Indian food in the US. That changed on Saturday night. I often peruse the menu online in advance but didn't have time so my surprise and pleasure were immediately known to my dining companions! The small plates were all unique, flavorful, wonderfully spiced, and fresh - We had five and all were excellent - especially the lamb chops! And the dosas - Oh, my they're truly authentic - we had four of them and all were perfection - Dosa, Masala Dosa, Mung bean/fennel dosa, and asparagus/cheese - all were perfection. I tried to order the habanero but our server cautioned me and brought a taste - STAY AWAY unless you can swallow fire. This is amzaing Indian food!
