The only down-side was that the restaurant had run out of both their local craft beers, which was a huge disappointment to my husband, since we usually drink beer with Indian food. The waiter was very patient as my husband made a choice of wine, but it seems odd that the restaurant could run out of both its interesting beers on a Friday night."

  • "Excellent food; only down side is it is not cheap. With two appetizers, two main courses and a bottle of wine it can easily be over $125 for two people. Still if you don't mind (or can afford it) it is worth it."

  • "I like Dosa because it probably has the best annotated menu I've seen in the Bay Area, and I've been on a pretty restrictive diet as of late. That said, I didn't feel the customer service was up to par when I went on Saturday night with a few friends and the food was much greasier than I remembered it being when I visited the Fillmore spot a year ago. In all, it was still hopping around 10PM with lots of diverse patrons, so the ambiance was certainly energetic, warm and not overly loud. If you're looking for Indian food, I'd definitely recommend it."

  • "Trying to end a vacation with a nice meal can be hard. But DOSA on Valencia was a real find. It's not a huge restaurant but it more than makes up for it with the authentic food and and great service. The server was attentive but did not interrupt too much. The food was relatively fast (~8 min) and AMAZING! Although it didn't seem like a lot of food, my girlfriend and I were more than filled. Bottom Line: Great place to go if you're looking for some amazing Southern Indian food for a relatively good price"

  • "Wow! This place captured the taste of south indian food better than south india! All total we tried a Dosa, Uttapam, and a small dish which was almost more than we could eat for 2 people. I highly recommend the Paper Masala Dosa. It comes out in a giant crunchy shell that reminded me of the same way they make it in Pune, India. The small dish was a tasty multiple mushroom and other ingredient mixture that they reformed into an artistic mushroom shape. The Uttapam was also very tasty but overshadowed by the incredible other dishes. I also tried the Bengali Gimlet which was refreshing with just a perfect amount of extra spice to it. For being a busy restaurant it wasn't very loud and it was easy to hear and talk with your fellow diners."

  • "We started with drinks. I had the ginger rum drink, my husband the beet and vodka drink, and our friend didn't see any she liked. So she asked the bartender to make something up with cardamom and vodka. My drink was just delicious, the distilled essence of ginger (yum!) My husband loved his. But we all switched to our friends special For the next round. The subtle flavor was outstanding. We ordered and shared the night's special (cod), masala Dosa with truffle oil, a Dosa with pepper, spiced pepper lamb with lemon rice, and a chana. All were exquisitely delicious, especially the chana. The server was fun and helpful, as was the hostess. Great location in a lively and evolving part of the Mission. We will be back."

  • "Food is pricy for being so inconsistent. Management has bad manners; the young guy with the hat, I think he was the manager, should really get fired for being so rude to paying customers. After spending $200 for 4 people, we were asked to leave because the restaurant was full and they wanted our half table (we shared our table with some other people we did not know) empty for whoever might come into the restaurant. I left so upset by this rude behavior and I will never go back there again, nor would I recommend DOSA to anyone."

  • "As I indicated above, food, service, on time reservation -- all great. But the noise level made it almost impossible to have a conversation. So my husband and I had to mostly eat our delectable meal in silence -- exchanges smiles and gestures rather than words. Our server, a young beautiful woman, was attentive and knowledgeable."

  • "We enjoyed the food, but we both felt the waitress was truly annoyed being there. She was in a constant rush. Our main dishes came out way too fast. We had barely touched the Dosas. It took; for what seemed forever, before we could even get water. My advice to the restaurant is to focus on staff before they drive away your customers."

  • "This was my first time at this restaurant and I was very pleased with the service. We had booked ahead through Open Table, but when we got there, they offered us a high table in the front area (it felt more like the bar area). We asked to wait for a regular table as we finished up our drinks at the bar. The manager stepped right in and not only served us our drinks quickly, but checked in with us several times on the status of our table. And to top it all off, he took the cost of our bar drinks off the final bill, with no complaints from us at all. I appreciate good service over all else, and because of this, I would recommend Dosa on Valencia."

  • "We met a friend for lunch at DOSA. She had spent much time in India, truly understood the cuisine and culture, and required a vegetarian menu. She also has very serious mobility problems and the greeter was very gracious and helpful in getting her wheelchair placed at a table... servers were also knowledgeable and helpful in getting her special food requests handled. A difficult situation became a delightful and satisfying experience, thanks to their help."

  • "This place is fantastic. My husband and I go to DOSA about once a month. On our last visit, we went for brunch, which is a bit more mellow and low-key compared to dinner service. Our bartender/server makes a mean Bloody Mary Curry, but you can order any other cocktail on their seasonal regular menu. I love brunch, because you can order one of several egg dishes, dosas, uttapams, or a few of their mainstay Dinner entrees. The owner came to our table when it arrived and not only named each of the 10 items, but explained how each was typically eaten and in what order. I have yet to have a less than excellent experience while dining at DOSA."

  • "Table was not quite ready at the reservation time, a little crowded waiting at the bar, hostesses were super polite and accomodating, Lorenn was our server, she is top notch, very knowledgeable and offered excellent explanations and recommendations. Food was delicious, dosa was a bit sparse on the filling, appetizer was great, overpriced sparkling water at the bar, the bottle that came to the table was 3 times as big for 50% less. I'd recommend it during the week for romance, a bit hectic on a Saturday night for quiet conversation. I'd definitely return. Thanks Lorenn!"

  • "Went here with 2 of my girlfriends and ended up staying for a long time. The staff was attentive although the food did take a long time to come out of the kitchen. Everything tasted amazing and I will definitely be going back. The bar has excellent signature cocktails and we loved the wine pairings too. Make sure to get a reservation though as the later it got the more it filled up obviously."

  • "pros: creative twists on indian dishes, nice atmosphere, good for a group cons: felt a bit rushed since the wait staff would come so quickly and so frequently trying to take away dishes when we had not finished. when we said we were still working, they were friendly about it, so no issue at all, but just had the sense they are busy and trying to turn tables… fyi...they have a 'cake-age' fee if you bring your own dessert for a birthday"

  • "I've eaten at Dosa on Valencia a few times and most of those experiences have been great. However, my most recent experience was so terrible it's skewed my whole perception of the restaurant. I went there in New Years Eve with five friends and each paid $75 for a 4 course meal. The food was so incredibly salty it was practically inedible. I can't believe any credible chef would be happy eating that or serving it to guests. We all left saying the same thing - how that was totally not worth the price."

  • "We ordered the 3 course "Holiday Tasting Menu". The first course of Red Beet Cumin Soup was amazing and if the rest of the courses were that I good I would have increased the overall rating. I like spices to flavor the food not to burn my mouth. I ordered the Winter Vegetable Kofta as my main course. There were no chilis listed in the ingredients or anything to tip me off that it would be so spicy hot that I couldn't eat it. The wait staff should advise the customer if a dish is super spicy especially since we had already asked that question regarding the soup."

  • "Overall we had a good evening. We were a party of 12 on a friday night. It was an early seating and I had called at lunch time that day to confirm numbers and to check whether it would be ok to bring some cupcakes in for the birthday boy. I spoke with someone who spoke with her manager and confirmed that if we were bringing in a cake we would be charged $3 a slice but as we were essentially helping ourselves to cupcakes they weren't going to charge us. I got 2 vm's that afternoon trying to confirm my booking, which I returned. When we arrived on time our table wasn't ready for us and service was slow. We weren't allowed to eat our cupcakes without them charging us and they added a 20% surcharge which we don't feel was deserved. Unimpressed."

  • "my girlfriend turned 30 and so a big group of us went to dosa for dinner. this was everyone's first time eating here. dosa was very accommodating for our group of 9 and the last minute (same day) reservation. the food was great, the drinks were very good (try the cocktails) and the service was very friendly and informative. i would recommend dosa and will eat there again. thanks dosa for a wonderful dinner."

  • "This has become a go to restaurant. Since my wife and I are foodies, we usually like to try different restaurants as much as possible. But it has been hard to do that lately since when we are in the mission, we tend to direct ourselves to Dosa since we know it will tantalize our taste buds. Start with their cocktail menu, their drinks are unique and full of different flavors. Then try their chutneys or the big poogy bread thing. All their dosa's are amazing, I usually try a different one each time I go. Service has always been amazing. Highly recommend this place for a nice couples night out."
