  • "The entire menu is not gluten free, but there are plenty of choices. All are tasty. Very high level of Indian cuisine, with a high-end vibe as well. A bit out of the way, unless you're in the Fillmore, but there's a movie theatre across the street, and it's definitely worth a trip."

  • "Dosa isn't your average Indian food with nan bread and curry. The variety of style of southern Indian breads and different styles of wrap makes it interesting. Must try are Bhutra Bread which are puffy fried bread which is taste very delious and fun."

  • "Great, fun and high-energy place with delicious twists on classic indian food."

  • "Really good food although a bit disappointed with the crepe. Too much crepe not enough filling. But overall 4 out if 5 stars and will be back."

  • "DOSA on Fillmore is a perfect spot for a bite and drink before or after a movie at Kabuki. Their bar makes delicious exotic (as in spicy, not froufy/tropical) cocktails and you can create a delightful meal out of small plates and delicious dosas. Generally their service is aces - they have very competent servers. The only negative is that they insist on having the host/ess seat the community table and lounge, so as a walk in on a busy night your only option is to jockey for a spot at the bar. At the Community table at DOSA you get all of the formality of having to wait on a list and be seated and the potential awkwardness of sharing a table with strangers without the casual sense of community you find elsewhere."

  • "This was my second lunch at Dosa, brought son from out of state. It was even better than the previous visit. The fire broth was a hit. We shared the lettuce salad with goat cheese and melon and avo, it was unexpectedly fantastic. He had the lamb Frankie, and loved it, while I had the sweet potato Dosa, which was utterly scrumptious. We also shared the kale and mung bean salad, and the pistachio dessert. Our waiter answered our questions about menu items very helpfully. This is an elegant establishment with delicious, well prepared food with great depth of flavor!"

  • "Our experience and dining at DOSA was perfect. The food is delicious and is much lighter than traditional Indian food that can be hard to digest."

  • "I've had Fantastic Indian food both in London,Uk & Canada ( I'm Canadien) boyfriend is British. We both went here & not all impressed. First off, the food was not the best southern Indian food. We both have had much better for a lot lesser priced. Way over priced! We were not happy with the service. My boyfriend & I told him(waiter) that he recently had surgery & did not want spicy Indian food, but he ignored this & still bought us the hotest spicyest Indian dish for my boyfriend. The extra rice we ordered, & paid extra for was so skimpy, that it was not enough, plus 2 types of Indian breads were too greasy & terrible! Too expensive, wine too expensive, service poor, crowded, & too noisy! desserts not even Indian! Will not recommend"

  • "Brought out-of-town friends here and they loved it. They had never had Southern-Indian food, and they loved the papadum and chutneys, Vada seafood fritters, Tamil lamb, dosa with organic greens, and trumpet mushroom uttapam. EVERY dish was well-received, and even the dishes with "heat " could be managed by those of us that prefer mildly-spicy food. Very good service, and well-paced meal. Too noisy, but being upstairs (with a early 6:30 table) helped with that issue quite a bit."

  • "Once again, Dosa does not disappoint. We had a 7:15 reservation, and our table was not ready when we arrived (which was actually surprising for a Wednesday night), but we had some fabulous cocktails at the bar (thankfully there were seats open, a rare find), and we enjoyed our evening. Would have been 5 stars if our table was ready AND the table they gave us was not sqeezed in between two other tables. I felt like I was having 3 conversations all night."

  • "Yet again, a wonderful dinner at Dosa. I am in the neighborhood so come by often. Your service, food, and ambiance make it always a special place."

  • "Dosa is not the typical Indian restaurant. The menu is appealing and the food is delicious. Do take your server's recommendations. On two occasions, they have been perfect."

  • "Everything was flawless start to finish. Friendly and knowledgable service, great food, fun atmosphere. Would like to go back again!"

  • "The menu at Dosa offers a unique and modern take on several traditional Indian dishes from both the North and South. Because the better part of the menu features South Indian dishes, many of the offerings are vegetarian. However, I'm a dedicated carnivore and I don't even bother with the meat dishes here - I'm sure everything is spectacular, but their dosas and uttapam are PHENOMENAL. Not to mention a creative and delicious cocktail menu, and spectacular dessert offerings that range from the super-traditional (sweet vermicelli with raisins, sweet cheese patties in cardamom rose water) to inventive and updated (chai pot de creme, pistachio-chocolate dacquoise). Reasonable prices too - entrees are mostly between $12-20."

  • "My wife has Celiac's. Dosa has dosa and uttapam, breads from lentils and rice, and she is in heaven eating it. Ask for the allergies menu, though, because some items do have wheat etc. And I love the food too. So great to see my wife happy."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "Try the Dosa's. While they are much higher end than typical Indian brunch food, they are deliciousness. Also, great happy hour."
    Dined on 3/27/2014
  • "With more options available for South Indian food every year, there isn't much reason to spend this kind of money for less successful interpretations of this fare. Maybe if you find yourself craving a second rate dosa within walking distance of the movie theater across the street, or a spicy cocktail before your meal. Nothing was bad, it's just that there are places to get better versions in town at a fraction of the price. The staff was very professional, admittedly a rarity at restaurants of any stripe. The dishes on the tasting menu were hit-or-miss, arriving looking pretty, but the signature dish - the dosa - should always be crispy and fresh when served. Ours weren't."

  • "Everything's out this place was just as we had hoped. Helpful attentive staff, great food and plenty ofit,"

  • "DOSA is the best damn Indian food restaurant I've EVER had. While I still try other Indian restaurants (I try to keep an open mind!), nothing compares to DOSA. Every dish I've had was always full of tremendous, exotic flavor. Both the spicy and not so spicy foods are amazingly good. Other restaurants offer spicy foods but while they are hot, there isn't much in the way of flavor otherwise. DOSA's food offers complexity, yet still it's comfort food. There is no explaining just how good it is. You just HAVE to try it. That is all."

  • "Went out with the girls last weekend.... our first get-together in a long time! The food options, bar, great service and atmosphere was the perfect setting for us. We had wonderful vegetarian options as well as meat and seafood. The wine list is fantastic and their special cocktails are a lot of fun. They sat us at a large booth / round table in the corner so we had a great view of the dining room, but still quiet enough for us to chat. They even sat us while we were still waiting for one in our party to arrive so that we could order a round of drinks. We will be back for our next evening out!"

  • "While I usually head to Vik's in Berkeley when I want a dosa, Dosa is a good option when I want to stay in SF and desire more of a cool vibe and want cocktails like the Wry Rajah. The varied dosas and uttapams are my go-to options as are many of the small plates. They are generally tasty, well-spiced and well-priced. I find the entrees too expensive for the value. My friends on the gluten-free plan also appreciate Dosa."

  • "I had dinner at this restaurant with my wife and 2 friends and was pleasantly surprised the waiters were not rushing to get us to order, deliver the food, and get us the bill. We had a great time, and my friends (who visited for the first time) really enjoyed the food. Well done Dosa!"

  • "My mom requested DOSA for her birthday dinner and we've always enjoyed the food and service. Unfortunately, our experience was marred by lackluster service to the point that I don't think we will return. With those prices, the low level service is inexcusable. No thank you."

  • "Coming from a south Indian family, dosa is a very important food in our lives. Coming to this restaurant for the first time, I expected good dosa, but nothing out of the world. But the truth is, the food is exceptional. The dosas are truly out of the world, combining various flavors and tastes from India into the entrees. The appetizers were delicious and so was the side of curd rice. Overall, with great service, mouth-watering food, and a nice ambience and atmosphere, Dosa is definitely a place not to miss in San Francisco."

  • "First, the cocktails are amazing: original, creative and very, very good. They aren't simply different, they're really good drinks. The ambiance is hip and fun without being frenetic. We sat upstairs which is more quiet. We had a couple salads and then moved onto the dosas. By happenstance ours was a vegetarian meal which is easy to achieve on this varied menu. Each diss was balanced, beautifully spices and different. Excellent value as well."

  • "The food was very tasty. One has to try the Dosas. We had a white truffle Dosa but could not taste the white truffle. The sauces were good. It is good to get small plates and dosas. The entree was disappointing for the cost of the entree and the portion size, it was not worth it. However, I would come back just for the small plates and the dosas."

  • "We have had our eye on this place for some time and we took some out of town friends who were looking for a great dining experience in San Francisco. They had been disappointed by some of the tourist joints down on the Wharf with great views but blah food, they loved Dosa on Fillmore, and so did we! The food was amazingly tasty, (as expected), our server was super helpful, knowledgable, patient and attentive. The other folks who work there did a great job too, presenting the Dosa (beautiful) with such flair! Also, having your napkin folded when you left the table for a washroom break, again, attentive. The vibe was mellow and peaceful, beautiful place. A bit pricey, but we left super stuffed and super happy, we'll totally be back!"

  • "I love DOSA's. It's on one of my favorite restaurants and it never fails to please. The service is great, the food is amazing and the house gin and tonic is delicious. The best par for me is that there is an entire gluten free menu. Usually my options are limited and this allows me to really have the full DOSA experience."

  • "Because of its emphasis on South Indian food, Dosa is set apart from most Indian restaurants. We enjoyed the signature dosas, as well as other dishes with a south Indian flair, i.e. lots of coconut and complex spices. This was our second time there and we enjoyed it both times. The service was fine. We wish there were some moderately priced wines. Most are over $40."

  • "Dosa is an incredibly fancy restaurant that serves Indian street food in a chic setting. Dosas were never meant to be haute cuisine, yet somehow the food does not seem at odds with the ambiance. I went with two other friends - both were celebrating their birthday. Upfront, we were rather disappointed with the service - our drink orders were forgotten by the waiter and it seemed like everyone was trying to scurry on out of the restaurant before closing. Nonetheless! The food was amazing - we each had different appetizers - the seasonal squash pakora and the bhel puri. Elegantly seasoned. Delicious and crispy without being crispy. Dosas were also delightful - you'd never guess that folks in India probably buy them for a few rupees."

  • "Excellent food, real good ambience. The appetizers are absolutely knockout. The veggie food is really good, i did not order the meat so cant review that. Overall very happy with quality of service and the food. Special mention to our waiter, he was very personable took pains to explain every dish and was very respectful. I would definitely recommend this place. Its slightly on the high side price wise but the whole package makes it worth it."

  • "DOSA's food was excellent. I would highly recommend this to others, especially those looking to have a nicer group dinner. The dishes are authentic but also served in a very eloquent way. The cocktails are delicious. Servers were attentive and very polite. Overall a really great experience!"

  • "I went here for my wife's birthday with a few friends, and the service was great! Loved the ambiance as well. We arrived 30 minutes early, but they were willing to take us in then."

  • "Tuesday night was not my first meal at Dosa on Fillmore. It was my go to place before a movie at the Sundance Kabuki. This time I made the mistake of making a reservation through Open Table. After a polite greeting at the desk the hosts quickly found my reservation, and whisked me and my date up to the stuffy, and dimly lit mezzanine level with its own bar. It didn't even feel like the same restaurant. It was so dimly lit I could not read the menu. When I asked for an extra candle or a flashlight for more light, the waitress sneered "use your cell phone flashlight app like the other customers". The advice would have been fine if I had a flashlight app or a cell phone. Ruined our evening out."

  • "We went to Dosa to experience the unique food, comparable to food at Rasika in DC. No comparison. The ambiance at the two restaurants is similar, glitzy and noisey. It was so dark that upstairs people were reading the menu by the light of their cell phones. The menu at Dosa is rather limited unless you want a dosa. The small plates we had were OK, but mine was sour. The curry I had also tasted sour. Baked halibut was nicely presented, but the sauce was so spicy it was difficult to taste the fish. The dosas were tasty, but the small pancakes were just that...small. The food does not compare to Rasika's, but it was unique and worthwhile , if you are tired of chicken tikka and lamb saag and like noisey, crowded restaurants."
