The food is different than DOSA offers in the Mission, a bit more creative perhaps but similar good quality. Watermelon salad, spiced lamb chops, fish and a vegetarian dish were all very good. Service was very attentive but not oppressively so. Our one complaint, and it was a significant negative, was that the crowded restaurant was simply too loud. We are accustomed to somewhat noisy dining experiences, but this was at the higher end of the scale. We don't enjoy having to yell across the table to communicate. In the end it greatly oppresses conversation. Those sitting directly next to one another at the bar seemed fine, but that isn't the dining experience. Strongly suggest accustic absorbtion materials for some walls and ceiling.

Really exceptional Indian food. Nice atmosphere except for noise level which yes too loud to hold a conversation on many occasions. On Monday night it was quiet enough to make it a delightful dining experience.

Great food, gorgeous place, but REALLY LOUD TECHNO is a bit overwhelming. I would love to bring some out-of-town guests here, but I know they will complain about the music, so we will have to skip it.

We wanted a great dinner before seeing a show at Yoshi's - Dosa on Fillmore was perfect...! We sat in the bar section with views of the street scene and the restaurant scene too. Their themed drinks were delicious, the food came promptly and was wonderfully presented and with the help of our waiter everyone at our table had a grand time. We made our show on time feeling well cared for....

I've been to this Dosa a few times and recently had a horrible experience with their service. The server messed up my order in two separate ways. When we tried to correct it, we couldn't flag her down. After telling other servers or runners of the issue, we would get an affirmation, but in fact they never communicated it to our server. Another minor but hugely irritating action was the server pouring wine. We were seated at one end of the room, so it was hard to reach two of us. Instead of filling the almost empty glasses, she fills the already full glass of the person sitting closest to her, and then walks off! Sadly this was a celebration dinner marred by such horrible service.

  • Too Loud in Spicy Environment!

    Dined on 9/5/2014
Tables too close in a noisy environment with spicy and aromatic food made our date experience painful as we could not hear each other or even comment about food we were sharing. The aroma from the adjacent table food caused sensory discomfort for my wife. We had to leave early. We have been to this restaurant before with much better quality. Unfortunate that good fortune for DOSA is causing greed to add so many tables too close to each other to ruin a dining experience.

  • Dosa has declined in quality

    Dined on 9/2/2014
I have eaten at Dosa several times, I am sorry to say that the quality of the food has seriously declined. I will not be going back to the restaurant again. I noticed the coconut chutney was old and had an off taste, the mango lassie was also stale, and the Chloe bhatura appeared to be made from canned garbanzo beans. The food was ordinary and did not display the freshness in perpetration that I had experienced in my first two visits, when th restaurant was new. I am not sure if management has changed, the quality of the food certainly has. Sorry to see that happen.

We were on time and waited just a few minutes before being seated. Unfortunately, we were seated in a waiters'/bussers' station by the bar. It was about $400 for the 4 of us, and I expected better than the worse table in the restaurant. The food was amazing. We've been many times and have seen the menu evolve. It would be nice to have kept some of our old favorites, but the taste sensations were terrific. Easily some of the best food in the city, nothing like your neighborhood Indian (Punjabi) restaurant. The lamb chops and fish are highly recommended, but they did run out of lamb chops.

We've been 2 Dosa before (live in the East Bay). We chose Dosa this time because we had friends attending a conf. in the City and they r vegetarian. Dosa (or another Indian rest.) is about the best option 4 vegetarians who are serious about food. Friends were not disappointed but I also don't think they were overwhelmed (quite familiar with Indian food, even South Indian). The noise level (OpenTable doesn't have a category for this) was beyond the Chron's bomb level. Interestingly we were seated upstairs which helped in the noise category but between the couple of times that we've been here, I don't think we'll be back soon though I do love (and know) South Indian food. Waiter was excellent. Food was not spectacular but very acceptable.

The food was a unique mix of both authentic and innovative Indian cuisine. We had the classic masala dosa (which frankly would hold its own in most restaurants in South India), the dahi vada and the idiappam(which was good, but very different from the version that I grew up with). The serving was staff was great and we almost never had to wait for someone to attend to us, even during the busy night. The only reason I haven't given a 5-star rating is the dessert menu didn't look as inviting as the rest of the menu. Still a great place to go for both families and young couples.

Food is beyond beyond. :-) Our server could not have been better. That's why its our 8th visit! On a Sat night however... when this busy, tables are too close - servers bottoms were in our faces as they bent to be heard/hear adjacent patrons questions; no space to stand comfortably since we had to wait 30 mins despite having a rezee. Bar service was slow and disinterested in those of us who wanted to order a drink during the long wait. I know you're busy but hey, I'm waiting to spend my money. Love Dosa and will always come back but perhaps, not on Sat night! :-)

We had been wanting to dine at Dosa for many years and finally had the opportunity last Saturday. We had a tight schedule, but told the server and were prepared to order immediately. The ambiance is bustling, but relaxing once you sit down and the food was delicious!

We sat upstairs and had a wonderful server, knowledgeable about the wine list and dishes. We didn't want to order the whole chutney sampler, so she offered up a mint chutney to go with the pappadum. We enjoyed the spicy lamb kebab; the complex textures of the watermelon, mung, paneer salad; the fabulous creamy corn soup; and the perfectly comforting sweet potato dosa. Easy to choose a delicious combination of dishes for a well-balanced dinner. Beautiful, unhurried experience in a lovely environment. Around us were families, couples out on a Friday night, and many South Asian people, which speaks to how Dosa's take on traditional dishes also stays true to Indian roots. Reservations!

I love to come here for birthdays and other special events and I also love bringing visitors from outside the Bay Area here. The food in interesting, always fresh, authentic and DELICIOUS. I alos love that I can eat very modestly with just a dosa or uttapam or be fairly extravagant! This visit, we all had the fixed menu, which was both amazing and a HUGE amount of food! But we ate every bite.

We've been to Dosa on Fillmore quite a few times in the past and have always liked the food. However during our recent visit, we felt that the quality of food has deteriorated. The flavors were less authentic and the service was sluggish. Inspite of ordering from the tasting menu, the items were served staggered. Also the reservation didn't seem to help much as it took around 30 minutes to get to our table, while others without reservation waited for almost the same time.

We started with some cocktails and though pricey, they were yummy. For dinner we each ordered a paper masala dosa and thank goodness the waiter stopped and warned us of how large these were (it had been two years since my last visit to SF). We shared one and it was very romantic and we were seated on the top level with a view of the bar and main level of the restaurant and it was very pretty with its warm dim lighting. We also shared some prawn curry with coconut rice and rasmalai for dessert with chai..... YUM!

I always enjoy eating at Dosa because of the variety of their menu with items not found at other Indian restaurants in the Bay Area.

Tried this place for my daughters birthday. The menu was very diverse, and what I really liked, was very informative. Since we are not too familiar with Indian food, it was nice to be able to read the menu and it explained what each dish was. We all ordered from the summer sampler-was able to try a little from this category and that category. The food was "hot" but not so much as to mask the flavors. We all had plenty to eat and left with full, satisfied bellies.

We went to Dosa with another couple of friends on a Saturday night. The food was great. The waitress apparently offered one of our orders to the next table. Ok that happens. The next glasses of wine took time to arrive but not a major hurdle. My friend and I split the check. I saw that my friend put a $48 tip on his $140 check. He had followed the recommendations from his check. The recommendations for tip were for the whole bill. The waitress said this was a "glitch in the system". How can a modern system like that write on the same small piece of paper: your total is $140 and an 18% tip is $48?? I can't help but see foul play. I discourage people to go to a dishonest establishment but in all fairness the food and the place are great.
