Pretty much the closest to Indian food I have ever eaten in the bay area. I went to the one at Fillmore. Great ambience great food..the only thing I didn't like is the space...feels like they tried put in more people in there....i had a table for two...and they could hardly accommodate the two appetizers I ordered on the table.. Made me eaves drop on the table next to me, unintentionally!!! :D

We loved the ambience, service and food @ Dosa! Great for desi food lovers! Great décor and variety. Loved using the OpenTable and ApplePay to view and pay my check! This is a great solve for folks who do not like waiting long to get their checks. This experience was pretty seamless! Would highly recommend! and will come back again soon.

The folks who welcome you are less than welcoming, although competent. We arrived early and were curtly/coldly told to wait at the bar, where there were no seats or places to get a beverage. When seats finally opened up we were served by a bartender that we would call surly. He seemed "put out" to serve and even ignored fellow workers. We were concerned that this cold, off-putting service would be our evening experience. Happily the next two staff people (the one who seated us and our waitress) were great! Food was terrific, especially the lamb chops. We ordered raita to go with our meal and it was a great addition to temper the heat of the dishes. Our waitress was attentive, informative, pleasant. The coconut sorbet was also a favorite.

Too loud. Waitress seated us at a table that was near noise. When we asked for another farther away, she said it was for bigger party. However, the table size was the same, we noticed, when the other party arrived -- after we had. Way too loud. I'll try not to go there again, esp. at night.

This was my second time dining at Dosa. This time I brought 5 people from a very important customer (I was confidence that it would be as great as the first time- and it sure was) Next time I am in San Francisco I will dine there again. Good service and, in my humble view since I am Danish and not Indian, true South Indian food. Everything is tasty, tender and taste freshly made.

Service was outstanding, great people all around. The food was delicious, but they prices were a bit high for the portions. I didn't mention it, but I did notice the couple next to me immediately complained and asked for a larger portion of rice to match the bowl of curry. Wrong night. I heard great things about this place. We were visiting from Los angeles and were referred to this restaurant. It was Diwali, the Indian new year. No one told us. the music was pounding in our ears while we were trying to talk to our friends. There was a prefixed menu and a cover charge of 40$/person. No one explained that to us, either, until the check came. We left before the last course, because the music was so loud. The food was terrible.

The owners and staff at dosa never seem to take anything for granted, always changing the menu and seeking the best ingredients. Most dishes were a wonderful explosion of flavor in the mouth. The seafood fritter was the only disappointment, and that was more in texture as it seemed quite chewy rather than melt in your mouth. As recommended by our server, we ordered 2 starters, 1 dosa and one entree. We were too full to eat the the entree and brought it home. This shrimp masala and coconut rice (incredible by itself) dish reheated beautifully.

Excellent and interesting, as usual--the food, the drinks, and the good suggestions from the server. One minor issue with one of the appetizers (not important enough to mention the exact nature and make an issue of it here); after mentioning it, the manager came over to discuss, and while we weren't asking for or expecting anything, the manager removed several items from our bill, not just the item in question. We would be back anyway, but he bought plenty of extra goodwill.

This restaurant is amazing. The food was great, but the service was outstanding!!! I would give it 6 stars if I could. The Manager, Todd Smith took the time to share his experiences and go through the proper way of enjoying the food. Our server was friendly and knowledgeable with a touch of comedy which made our experience fun and unforgettable. I would definitely return if I have a chance to try other items in the menu. The food is average Indian...if your living in the bay area, food is comparable to here. The ambience is nice, however since we were a couple that went, there isn't enough space between each table...the next table couple was almost encroaching on us...it's not their fault, it's just the way the tables are laid out....if a party of 4 or over goes, then it's much better.. Avg food, not good for couples, great for party of 4 or more.

Service was quite bad and I was astonished when told that the bar tender refused to make any virgin cocktails. Only what's on the menu (drink by numbers? seriously?)

Everything was top notch. One of the most difficult things for a restaurant serving highly spiced food is to get the heat level right. It's so subjective. Even for a heat seeker like me, there has to be a balance between the level of heat and subtlety of the other ingredients. They nailed it.

This place is always busy, but we were able to get a drink from the bar and our table was ready after about a 10 minute wait, with a reservation. Some days the wait (without reservation) is up to 2 hours. Two appetizers (dosa and shredded duck) and 3 entrees plus rice was plenty of food for 5 people. The Channa Bhatura was the favorite followed by the Kerala Fish Moilee.

I have been to Dosa several times and had a great experience, but this time was pretty bad. The server gave us little help when we couldn't read the menu because it was so dark. I asked to taste one of the wines before ordering and she brought me a few drops in a wine glass --REALLY? I don't think I will be going back -- too expensive for what you get. There are better options out there with a lot better service than Dosa. I would not recommend this place again.

The food is different than DOSA offers in the Mission, a bit more creative perhaps but similar good quality. Watermelon salad, spiced lamb chops, fish and a vegetarian dish were all very good. Service was very attentive but not oppressively so. Our one complaint, and it was a significant negative, was that the crowded restaurant was simply too loud. We are accustomed to somewhat noisy dining experiences, but this was at the higher end of the scale. We don't enjoy having to yell across the table to communicate. In the end it greatly oppresses conversation. Those sitting directly next to one another at the bar seemed fine, but that isn't the dining experience. Strongly suggest accustic absorbtion materials for some walls and ceiling.
